Seating Question: Extreme side stage seating - Is it good?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

My kids love Coldplay and I will be taking them to see them early next month in Buffalo. Unlike Bruce Springsteen, who I have seen in Buffalo multiple times, and who has seating all the way around the arena, Coldplay does not. That makes me wonder how the seats are at the extreme side of the stage, or the ones that show on the seating chart that are even slightly behind the stage. Has anyone seen them on this tour who can comment from experience?

Thank you!

I saw them on the MX tour from this angle at an arena in Detroit. Almost directly from the left side of the stage as you're looking at it (the Jonny side), but slightly to the front, and up in the first row of balcony seats. It was great for seeing the band and getting pictures. In a small-ish arena like that, I felt really close to the stage without having to be on the floor. I'm not that tall (5'5") and I probably would have had heads in my way on the floor. I also really liked how I could look at the whole sea of fans on the floor and to the back. Made the xylobands look amazing when they were used!

The only negative to the extreme side view that I thought of was how some of the stage effects looked. Most of the effects were fine, like the lighted shapes at the back of the stage, but the lasers were strange. For instance, during Fix You, they projected green lasers in various shapes straight out from the stage across the audience in the dark. From my vantage, all I could see were green horizontal lines, and I wondered what the heck that was until I remembered what the lasers were supposed to look like from the front. Here's a good example of lasers that won't look right from the extreme side: b5d8ce1d82de06d5ad5a4bffa69e7c68.jpg

For the AHFOD tour, I got tickets for both Chicago stadium shows. One show in the first balcony straight back from the stage. I know it'll be like seeing them from a mile away, but I want to see the effects better this time. I also got tickets for the second show on the floor. Even if I can't see above anyone, I'm just going to dance, sing and watch the close up monitors if I have to. I'm just trying out the other vantage points now.

I would highly recommend side seats if you're not too worried about seeing the stage effects from head on.

I saw MX from side right of Chris and slight back above roadies. Fun to see mixing room. Agree on lasers and everything you said. I'm going in Chicago on first night in B1. Would be fun to meet you.

I had one of the outermost seats on the lower ranks in Copenhagen (row 8 I think). You still feel close to the stage as it's not too far away, but from this extreme angle and with the masts for the speakers I was hardly able to see the band when on the main stage. You get to see Chris running over the runway a lot of course and it's a great view as well to admire the atmosphere in the stadium. But as others said you miss out on some of the effects like the lasers or the fireworks looking well.

I didn't mind that night because I knew the seat would be like that and I've seen several other shows of the tour up close from GA. I even liked having a totally different view of the show and noticing other things. Might be a bit different though, if you're only seeing one show.

Still, I think with the show setup, all the creative ideas and the music, there really is no bad seat in the house. :)

Thanks, Stephie,

I now have a seat on a disabled platform so hoping the added height helps.

Could somebody please recommend the overall best place to see the show from. I was able to come up with some money and I want to buy tickets on StubHub for Philadelphia but I don't know which section to buy. I want to be on the field somewhere.

I saw them in Buffal last night for the first time. Quite good. My daughter loved it, which is what it was all about. In any case, this was at an indoor arena. Not sure what to recommend for the giant football stadium in Philly. But I can tell you that the side stage seats I fretted about when I made the original post of this thread would have been very good and a whole lot cheaper for what I paid for seats all the way back, which were actually still quite good given the alternate stages. Good luck.
