"Pop Idol" winner Will Young will take on top-selling singer Dido and Scottish rock outfit Belle and Sebastian for the best honor award at the U.K.'s prestigious Ivor Novello awards. Young's "Leave Right Now" was also nominated in the best-selling U.K. single category for next month's awards, which honor the best British songwriters and composers.

Dido's "White Flag and Belle and Sebastian's "Step Into My Office Baby" are Young's opposition for best song, with Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne's duet "Changes" and "Mad World" by Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules doing battle for the best-selling cut.

Kylie Minogue was nominated for best contemporary song with "Slow." She faces competition from Amy Winehouse's "Stronger Than Me" and "Jus' a Rascal" by 2003 Mercury Music Prize winner Dizzee Rascal.

Coldplay, crowned songwriters of the year at last year's awards, is up for most performed work with "Clocks," along with Sugababes' "Hole In The Head" and Jamelia's "Superstar." Robbie Williams picked up a nomination in the international hit of the year category for "Feel," where he will be up against Dido's "White Flag" and Minogue's "Slow."

The Ivor Novello awards take their name from the Welsh actor, composer and playwright who was one of Britain's biggest stage and screen stars in the early part of the last century. The winners will be announced May 27 at a ceremony in London.

Its chart position doesn't mean it wasn't overplayed...I think it would have got higher if people weren't so goddam tired of hearing it!

It was played on Radio 1 so much that Mark and Lard started taking the piss, Chris Moyles had comp to find who could record the best cover of it, BBC used it to advertise Freeview, it was used it soooooooo many TV programmes (especially sport programmes), it was always on the music channels and this was all before they even decided to realise it as a single! :stunned:
