Coldplay are number one in the album chart for the fifth week in a row with 'Vival La Vida.'   The indie outfit's fourth record has now shifted in excess of 600,000 units, meaning that it is already double platinum in the UK. The album has gone to the top spot in an incredible 36 countries, and has been certified platinum in 31 of those and double-platinum in the UK and Canada.   Despite 'Viva La Vida's global success, it's still only the second biggest selling album in the UK this year with Du

As expected, Coldplay's new album 'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' has topped the US Album charts for a second week running.   The band's fourth album sold 249,000 copies in its second week, according to new chart figures. The album has now sold nearly 1million copies in the US alone. The rest of the top-three in this weeks chart also remains unchanged, with Lil' Wayne's 'Tha Carter III' and the Jonas Brothers-featuring Disney soundtrack 'Camp Rock' holding the second and third spots

Coldplay still get mistaken for members of the public - despite scooping their fourth Grammy Award on Sunday.   The rockers picked up the 'Record Of The Year' prize for their hit single 'Clocks' - but drummer Will Champion claims they were confused for hired staff at the glitzy Los Angeles bash.   He moans, "You can win four Grammys and be on stage three years in a row and they still mistake you for the people who fill the seats."   Meanwhile, Chris Martin has sparked outrage amongst some dedica

It was high fives all around for Coldplay's "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends" on the Canadian album charts.   The Brit-rock quartet's fourth disc stayed at No. 1 for a fifth consecutive week, selling 15,000 copies, according to figures compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. It has now racked up a grand total of 176,000 in sales since its release last month. Meanwhile In the US charts, Coldplay's new album slips from second to fourth with 90,000 sales. Coldplay's third album X&Y has rocketed to the top of the album chart and is on course to become one of the biggest sellers of all time.   It is believed 464,000 copies were sold by Saturday, making it the second fastest-selling album since records began in the early 1990s. Only the 1997 Oasis album, Be Here Now, has ever performed better in its first week, with 695,761 copies sold. X&Y knocked Oasis' newest album, Don't Believe The Truth, from the top spot.   HMV spokesman Gennaro Cast

Coldplay and The White Stripes played storming sets at Los Angeles radio station KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas show last night (December 11th). Click here for pictures.   Depeche Mode also rounded off the evening celebrating the bands of 2005 with a headlining set at the Gibson Amphitheatre.   The band, who Coldplay's Chris Martin described as "shit hot", closed the night with a set of hits that included 1990 classic 'Enjoy the Silence', 'Never Let Me Down Again' and 'Shake the Disease'.   Co

Thousands of music fans flocked to Crystal Palace to see Coldplay kick off their UK tour. They wowed a sell-out crowd at the National Sports Centre for the past two nights.   The concerts came during a packed week for the band, who headlined the Glastonbury festival on Saturday and will be taking part in the Live 8 gig in Hyde Park this weekend.   Fans descended on Crystal Palace from across the UK to watch the gigs and hear songs from the group's new album X&Y, which has topped the charts o

Friday, 29th June 2007   One aspect of the recording process that I'll never get used to is tension.   Tension is an inherent part of recording. Without tension, there's no focus. Without focus, the work becomes shoddy and ineffectual. Tension means that people actually give a shit. I myself am not very good at dealing with tension. That's why I only spend short periods of time in the studio. I dip in and out. I'm too thin-skinned to thrive in the studio atmosphere.   If you place six strong-wil

Vancouver rockers Black Mountain, fresh off a once-in-a-lifetime tour opening stadium shows for Coldplay, have had some of their momentum cruelly sapped by cowardly thieves who recently broke into the band’s van and nabbed a good deal of their equipment.   The thievery went down in New York City on the band’s current tour with side project Blood Meridian, the latest in a rash of equipment heists in the Big Apple that also saw The Raveonettes ripped off brutally.Black Mountain has asked that any

Once again, Waxploitation has united a ton of excellent artists (and sure, some less than excellent ones too) in a benefit for the victims of the conflict in Darfur.   The label's fourth auction for the cause has already begun, and it includes signed guitars and other items from Kanye West, Wilco, the Flaming Lips, the Decemberists, TV on the Radio, Gnarls Barkley, Gorillaz, Bloc Party, Aesop Rock, Common, El-P, Coldplay, Thievery Corporation, RJD2, and my personal faves (seriously) Deftones.

Lead singer Chris Martin of Coldplay sang in support of Australia during a concert by slamming Italy whom Australia played against in the World Cup.   Martin yelled out to the crowds during the show in Australia saying, ‘We f**king hate spaghetti anyway!’ contactmusic.com reported. He continued his rant by changing the words to the song ‘God Put a Smile Upon Your Face’ to ‘God give me style and give me grace, who needs a penalty in any case?’   Australia lost to Italy by one goal through a penal

The last time Coldplay played Singapore was in July 2001. Back then, the band were relative newcomers as they shared a bill with Travis.   Right now, nobody really knows what has become of Travis’s career but Coldplay has turned into one of the biggest rock outfits in the world. The award-winning Brit quartet, led by the pope of mope Chris Martin, returns to Singapore on July 10 for a Twisted Logic concert stop at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. This time it headlines its own two-hour show.

Musicnotes Inc. said Thursday that it has reached agreements with “several thousand” music publishers that will allow the online digital sheet music provider to offer free guitar and drum tablature downloads through its new Web site.   Musicnotes of Madison will offer the downloads through MXTabs.net, to be launched this summer. The site was acquired by Guitar Tab L.L.C., a wholly owned subsidiary of Musicnotes, in March.   Guitar tablature, or tabs, are transcriptions of music presented in a t

Coldplay won the 'Record Of The Year' prize for ''Clocks'' at this years Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.   Chris Martin dedicated the award to late country singer Johnny Cash, with whom he was due to make a record with only days before his death. He also publically showed his support to leading Democratic presidential hopeful ''John Kerry, who hopefully will be your president one day.''   You can see some of the pictures here

It is the classic dilemma for English-speaking rock stars at foreign award ceremonies - try your acceptance speech in the local language and risk looking foolish, or stick to English and look arrogant.   Chris Martin stopped worrying about looking foolish long ago, so did not hesitate to attempt to show off his language skills at the NRJ Awards in Cannes - the French answer to the Brits or the Grammys. He began by saying something along the lines of: "Ma Francais comme voiture cassee" - a shaky

James Blunt has risen up the chart from 13th to sixth with £18 million compared to £5 million last year.   Other risers include Joss Stone with £10 million from £6 million in 2006, and Katie Melua with £8 million from £5 million in

At a press conference in Hong Kong, the band's frontman made both a jab at Vice President Dick Cheney and fueled speculation that Coldplay may go the route of Weezer and disband.   When talking about why they don't get into fights with other bands, Chris Martin spoke out against the second in command, "You know, if you don't like [the music], just listen to something else. We'd much rather have a fight with Dick Cheney, you know - people who really do things that we consider to be bad." The com

Coldplay's Chris Martin [pictured] beat off competition from U2 frontman Bono to walk away with a lunchbox designed by REM vocalist Michael Stipe.   The two stars became embroiled in a bidding war at a charity auction in aid of the Food Bank for New York city at the Wooster Projects Gallery on Sunday night, but Martin walked away triumphant with a winning bid of US$20,000.   Bono later joked: "It was death by Coldplay."   But it wasn't all bad news for the Irish supergroup.
