I really want to find this funny.
Being proud of something you didn't have anything to do with personally is sort of foolish.

The irony is, even the Confederate States of America wouldn't allow for secession.

Where the wild things are!
I can't wait either!!!! I hope I don't cry. Our local library has huge cut outs of the characters from this book, and I'd go there when I was in 1st grade... and I went there to study in college, and those huge cut-outs were still there. This book and the art has been a big part of my life.

Abercrombie and Fitch
I know exactly how you feel, I hate walking by an Abercrombie store because of the stench. It's like an animal died in the mall and nobody has come to clean it up in a few days. I have to walk by the Starbucks and inhale deeply, then hold my breath and run past the A&F.

Abercrombie and Fitch
Once my dad and I were in a mall in Atlanta, and we passed by an Abercrombie & Fitch with a male model standing shirtless out front. He was greeting customers as they walked in. My dad threatened to take his shirt off, exposing his beer belly and grotesque flabby skin, but the model stopped him and offered to put his own shirt back on.

What's your sign?
I'm an Aries. I used to read my horoscope but I don't anymore. I read somewhere Aries people are natural leaders. There were some negative things, too, but I conveniently forgot them.

The SEX thread
The part about the Noah's ark is a mistranslation, too. "Ark" is actually "JC Penny" and "two of each animal, both male and female" is actually "buy one get one free sale".

What 'celebrity' do YOU look like???
Seperate? Usually it's in the same space. As long as you get your point in, you're good. I've forgotten why I come here.

I hate when that happens.

Maybe a more handsome, younger, and less-talented version of John Mayer.

College isn't worth it.
I think the problem with liberal arts in general (not necessarily the cost of college) is that it is basically a continuation of high school. Sure, you have a "major", but the bulk of your time is spent thinking about getting credits for classes that have nothing to do with your career path. That flies in the face of the old capitalist credo of "specialization". First, you specialize. You get really good at one thing, that's useful to society. Then, once you've made money from that, you can begin to explore the other cultural subjects.

College isn't worth it.
Wait till the central banks quit their "quantitative easing" and the interest rates skyrocket overnight. Young people with student loan debt will be pissed off, and there will be a whole generation of kids who have terrible credit. Thanks, government!

Ayn Rand
I read John Galt's speech in Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead. She has a wonderful philosophy, I just don't think she is logically consistent by supporting government. If you're going to believe that taxation is theft (which it is!), you need to go the full distance and become an anarcho-capitalist. The fear many libertarians/objectivists have with anarchy, is they don't believe society would remain stable without a government. Two economists, Ludvig von Mises and Murray Rothbard, have dealt a serious blow to this commonly accepted thinking. If you study Austrian economics, you see that the State is actually a detriment to society, and laws (which were originally intended to protect our rights) are primarily used to abrogate them. Governments are meant to protect us from violence, but the police generally only clean up after you've been murdered - they don't actually prevent the murder. Your odds of being killed in a terrorist attack are less than being struck by lightning. Standing armies are unnecessary today with the invention of nuclear weapons (for deterrence), yet the US still has one, and still uses them to invade other nations. Overall, government is a bad deal. You're giving up 50% of your income for... relatively little. And your odds of being attacked for non-violent "crimes" is increased dramatically.

I have this old Sony Wega that's 32 inches (not widescreen). Then there's a Vizio LCD widescreen 1080p at my mom's that's probably 38 inches or so. I'm hooking up my old desktop computer to it tomorrow to use it as a monitor, and see how that looks. Wish me luck!

~the 'official' sexy fit men thread~
Oh my Dog, I was thinking the exact same thing when I watched that trailer. It was so generic. Nothing we haven't seen before from Depp and Burton. This duo has definitely run its course. It's too bad Del Toro didn't direct this, because he would have done a fantastic job with the art design and casting. Anyway since this is the SFM thread, here's Noah Wyle:

~the 'official' sexy fit men thread~
He's not a typical "sexy fit man" but I still think he's hot. Rich Lowry Sure, he's a neo-conservative fascist pig. But he's so geeky-cute I can't help but enjoy his political commentary on Fox News. And "more witty" is entirely acceptable grammar.
