New Coldplay Song - 'Railways'
Not to attack this entire thread... but seriously, does anyone else think that when he says railways are going to be big... he's talking about ACTUAL RAILWAYS? They are dressed up in "olde-timey" clothes, people. I can't honestly believe there are 3 pages of a thread about this. Coldplay, if an announcement about anything/something was ever needed, its certainly now...

Camden 8/7/05 Show?
Been away from the forums for a while... but its appropriate that the first thread I see when I get back is this one! I was at the Camden show and it was also my first Coldplay show... I too would love to have a copy of it, it was quite an incredible performance.

4th album : NOH !!!!
It's not even a question of keeping the piano alive versus killing it... because Chris will always find a way back to it somehow. However, a darker (and more "Parachutes" like) tone would be excellent if coupled with some of the... grandiose movements of "X&Y". That there would be an album for the history books, I think.

3rd Single of X&Y Album?
I'm pretty sure "Talk" is the next single... my local radio station WXPN has been known to "predict" singles by playing a new song off the album just as the previous single is being released. I heard Speed of Sound only before the album came out, then it was primarily Fix You, and now it's almost entirely Talk... so there's my bet

Camden New Jersey 080705
It was indeed an awesome show.... every number was excellent and the guys seemed genuinely happy to be onstage. Chris was hilarious and made the whole night that much better.... my only disappointment was no "Twisted Logic" cause it is the "Twisted Logic Tour"... oh, and 35 bucks for a shirt? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? PS: anyone want to let me know if they find this show on the web somewhere in a few days? I want it!!

Rewrite history by reselecting the singles!
I think that the Parachutes singles were handled nicely, I probably wouldn't touch them. Rush of Blood: Put "Clocks" out first. Get the crowds really excited about the new album and drum up the goodwill early. Plus, this way the song won't become the anthem of everyone who kinda-sorta likes Coldplay. Then, move on to "The Scientist". Mainly because it's the strongest straight up ballad on the album and every album needs one of them as their single. Third, "Daylight". Let the people really see some of the different things being done and the other directions they're starting to branch into instead of just rehashing what they've got down. Finally, "Politik". It's the sort of song that needs to be released to the masses because of its message and it's just a damn good song. For X&Y: My leader would have been "Fix You". I get such a rush (no reference intended) hearing that song, it would have been great to have started that. Then, "White Shadows" or "Square One" to again show how this is a "new" Coldplay compared to the old stuff. "X&Y" would be a good single as well, considering it's VERY different from everything else on the radio, with the odd formation of the song. Finish off with "Talk" or "Swallowed in the Sea". Of course, whatever they do is fine with me :)

Did you attend Live8?
philly style I was at the Philly show with about ten of my friends... we caught a 6:30 AM train into the city and camped out in our spots around 7:15. Thanks to that, we ended up being about 100 yards from the stage on the stage left/audience right side. We had a decent view of the stage, except for peoples heads, and an AWESOME view of the one jumbotron to our right (upon which we saw Coldplay do "In My Place"). Though we all came out of it a little sunburnt, it was quite the experience... Anyone else in Philly for the show?

Pick Songs From All Three Albums To Make One Perfect Album
Wow... 13 Coldplay songs to make the best album... here goes... 1. Only Superstition 2. Daylight 3. Everything's Not Lost 4. Shiver 5. Yellow 6. Clocks 7. Amsterdam 8. Talk 9. How You See The World 10. Trouble 11. Fix You 12. Twisted Logic Bonus Track: Crest of Waves See, that's real hard though... cause there's still SOOOOOO many good tracks. I mean, geez.... can it be a double album? Or maybe even... a triple album ;)

Will Coldplay ever make a classic album?
First thing: good question about The Joshua Tree. Second thing: I think that Parachutes and Rush of Blood weren't on the list because they weren't really complete albums in the sense of classics. Don't get me wrong, Parachutes is probably one of my ten favorite albums of all time... but it's not a "classic" album in the way that albums like "Achtung Baby" and "OK Computer" were. It's classic to all of us, but the fact remains that it was looked at by many people as... I think (in their review of Rush of Blood) Rolling Stone titled it as the whiny diary of a twentysomething... something along those lines. Anyway, that's how a lot of people looked at Parachutes and thus they're not super impressed. As for Rush of Blood, that was very much the stepping stone to X&Y, at least in my mind. Rush of Blood was as "incomplete" as Parachutes, just in a different way. It meandered too much and never really had that cohesive "sit down and listen to it straight through" feel. Again, I love this album, but to me it is the least "classic" of the three Coldplay albums. As for X&Y, give it time. Right now, we're all still on the post-release day buzz, for the most part. The album's been out for less than a month and has, of course, split the community. I personally think that in another 10 years or so (barring an even greater album release) X&Y will have a place on many people's Top 100 charts and probably a good one. The fact that it can go from being harder than anything they've done thus far (Square One & White Shadows) all the way to the other end of the spectrum (most clear example: 'Til Kingdom Come)... that makes it a "current classic" to me. However, the test of time is one that has not yet been passed... and I'll stop talking like Yoda.

I got my X&Y music books!
Thats awesome that you found the books! I've been looking for the last two weeks or so and they still don't have the guitar tab anywhere around here.

hows my playlist?
looks very nice to me, very nice indeed. A quick question though: which of the "b-side" tracks are studio and which are live? I have most of the same cuts as you, though I'm missing ones like "Lips Like Sugar" and I'm curious as to whether or not those are studio or live!

4th album?
I love how X&Y has barely been out for a week, yet we're already talking about the future... :P Listen, give X&Y a little time to sink in to the masses. This isn't the era of the Beatles, with albums being pumped out faster than the "NOW" series CD's... if we can all remember the length of time between Rush of Blood and X&Y, then I think that we definitely have two more (yeah, probably three more) singles before the band begins to really think about a new album. :)

Coldplay's messing with my brain.
I'm going to say that the whole album of "Parachutes" reminds me of december - february when its sort of rainy/snowy/dark out, but its not a depressing... its just a cool feeling. It's stuck with me the last year and a half, so I suppose that's it for me... the other stuff hasn't really clicked yet. (Rush of Blood is too varying)

Album ratings!
Everyone here seems to adore A Rush of Blood... but I found that that album was much harder to get into on repeat listens compared to Parachutes. I think that Parachutes is a very good "rainy day album" for the most part, with that kind of dark tone over the whole album. However, Rush of Blood never fits into a category like that. There are songs that work for really good moments and others that work for really blah moments and then the middle of the album (well, green eyes/warning sign/a whisper) feels very... out of place? Green Eyes is good, but I felt (and still feel) that they wanted to make another Yellow with that song. Warning Sign and A Whisper, I think its really the guitar work that annoys me. It's too biting and just not really Coldplayish. The work on X&Y, while it may not seem like Coldplay to the casual listener, definitely has Johnny's trademarks and it just sounds right. Warning Sign and A Whisper felt like missteps and that absolutely kills the album for me. So here it goes, in terms of listening preference and overall goodness: Parachutes: ****1/2 X&Y: ***** (we'll see how that stands up to the test of time, though) A Rush of Blood to the Head: ****

What's your fav track on X&Y (so far)?
On a very awesome album... I so far have been unable to get over "Square One". Something about it is just screaming out to me and I love it!
