  1. No, but my sister got a lot of birthday stuff.
  2. I got a five string bass guitar over the summer and have been trying to teach myself how to play. ...but then like everything else it got sidetracked by school. I have an acoustic guitar and took classes in college. Don't practice enough to not suck. Took piano lessons for years as a kid but never really learned anything. I like playing a little wooden thumb thing I got last year... it sounds like a music box. And I'm working on building my own electronic noisemaking thing, so I guess you could say I play it... once it's finished. I used to play flute in 7th grade, but I've pretty much completely forgotten how it's been so long.
  3. Weird. It's called Firefly because Serenity is a firefly class ship. If you want an easy-to-get-into taste of what it's all about without having to deal with the name "Firefly", watch the movie Serenity. It's one of the best sci-fi movies in a long time and you don't have to know anything about the tv series to understand it. But yes, it is the epitome of awesome and you should watch it. *nods*
  4. I could never be a real elitist... I like cheesy house music too much. I guess I'm always trying to not be an elitist or a hipster or at least not be a mean one because I really resent the mean streak a lot of music fandom has. I get really excited about the stuff the hipsters and elitists like and get annoyed by many of the things that annoy them. But it's geeky excited- I like what I like period and any self-conciousness about it comes from the outside: the hipsters and the music culture telling me I'm supposed to be self-conscious. Gah... :dizzy: See, this is why I like geekdom. No pretence or posturing, just everyone gets unselfconsciously insane about all their favourite things, and really excited that other people like them too. If you really like Firefly for example, you're going to exuberantly tell anyone who listens about Firefly because it is awesome and everyone should see it, and every new person who likes it is another fork in the eyes of the retards who canceled it. But of course, ultimately, music has a long history of bestowing social status. Geekdom has a long history of negating any social status. So you could say geeks can like what they want to because they have no status left to lose anyway... ...I say they're more genuine and honest about who they really are because they love what they love openly for it's own sake, knowing the social cost and in spite of all the people who will make fun of them and look down on them. So really, geeks are more hipster than the hipsters according to hipster rules.
  5. Looked it up.... yep, DT narrates the whole documentary. :nice: Wouldn't mind seeing that some time if it ever shows up on tv around here.
  6. That's great! Is that David Tennant doing the commentary?
  7. If there`s a mod around, would they please lock this? :lock: :lock: :lock:
  8. I like listening to soundtracks when I'm trying to concentrate on something else. I like to make up my own stories for what I'm hearing while I work. So I don't listen to them like other albums, but when there's a good one around I'll listen a lot. (But then I don't listen to rock and electronica albums in the same way either.) Looks like a pretty good guess to me. I`ll be surprised if that doesn`t finish top 10 for sure top 5 for probably. ...and yeah, the Suburbs seems to be the main one everyone could agree on.
  9. ^^Heh, that was supposed to be a joke. But yeah I'm a little bit obsessed with it. I like putting it on the big stereo and feeling my ribcage rattle. Or maybe I just listened to way too much of the Chariots of Fire soundtrack when I was really little... Now if only the movie was as good as the music.
  10. Ok, updated. :lock: :lock: :lock: :hat: :escaping2:
  11. Friends. They have the best low-key parties I know of.
  12. It's a message board. Threads are meant to be interrupted. :vuvuzela:
  13. Ok, um... here goes. #8. Nigel Godrich - Scott Pilgrim OST #7. Justin Bieber - My World 2.0 #6. Miley Cyrus - Can’t Be Tamed #5. Rod Stewart - Fly Me to the Moon: The Great American Songbook, Vol. 5 #4. Westlife - Gravity #3. Gorillaz - The Fall #2. Jedward - Planet Jedward AND Last but not least: #1 Daft Punk - Tron Legacy OST :P:thinking: Yeah, that's not right. Perhaps we should wait until I have something together to count down with.
  14. Ok, I stuck it in there and she can tell me which list to use when she gets back Poll really truly closed now. If there's a mod in the building would they please close this now? Thanks. :lock: :hat2:
  15. ^^Ok, what's her username and why couldn't she post it herself?
  16. ^You couldn't have told me that 5 minutes ago?!
  17. Ok everyone, that's it for this year. I declare this poll closed. :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: :lock: :toff:
  18. . (I'll put something in here when I remember what goes here.)
  19. Albums of the Year 2010 - The Countdown 2010 discussion thread Previous Albums of the Year Polls Scoring System :hat2:
  20. Need to run out for the evening... I should be home in time to close the poll on time, but if not you all get a one-hour or so grace period. Thanks, but does that mean you still aren't going to let it count? Hey, I Am Kloot's... I was going to listen to that one and never got a chance. *sigh* ...But yeah, what I don't understand is that I changed the cutoff date quite a while ago and there were no objections at all. If there had been then I would have reconsidered then, but by now most people have finalized their lists for this year so a sudden change back wouldn't be fair.
  21. ^*pouts* I miss your old list. I never got a good look at it before it was disappeared.
  22. It will count if it's original material that hasn't been released before. If it's any sort of collection of previously released stuff it doesn't count.
  23. I go into HMV and when I can't find the album I want I ask the counter guy if they have it. He types on his computer for a while and if the cd isn't hiding in the store somewhere they can order it directly from the distributor. He takes my phone # and calls me a week or two later to come pick it up. It always costs the regular full amount for a cd on the shelf- so about 18 or 20$. The perfect recipe for the WORST SOUND QUALITY EVER.
