  1. No review of my tape nor has my mixtape maker revealed themselves yet :shifty:
  2. OK so, here's my review! 1)I was a little put off with this at first; the beginning sounds a little like some generic R 'n' B stuff. But as it gets going, I realise I'm wrong. I'm enjoying it more on repeat listens, I quite like it! Fun, upbeat opener. 2)Paul Banks! I could recognise his voice anywhere, very distinctive. I assume this is from his solo album? I don't remember that album too well, but it doesn't sound like Interpol.. 3)Summery vocals that remind me a lot of the Beach Boys but with a hazier, more shoegaze feel to it. Pretty catchy this, I quite like it! 4)Slightly darker that previous tracks, but still electronica. I like it when it gets to the 1:40 mark and what sounds like guitar feedback kicks in, definitely gives the track an edge. I could like this with a few more listens, perhaps. 5)The XX! Can't remember the name of the song, but I know I liked it  6)Dancy beat to this, with what sounds video game sounds. Hmm, not really a fan of the singer's voice, but the music is catchy. 7)Hmmm the vocals sound familiar on this one, but I can't place it..This track overall is OK, nothing really grabs me on it, though, I'm afraid. 8)This is a fun pop song, again quite catchy! The lady has a pretty good voice. 9)Starts with an extended instrumental section with vocals starting at about 1:12. This track is OK, but it almost feels too short, as if it ends too soon. I ended feeling a little disappointed to be honest :/ 10)I like this! It's catchy and fun and just experimental enough. Though the part where they repeat “for me” goes on for a little too long :D 11)Our first foray out of electronic music with this and some folk-y guitars and upbeat drums. His voice sounds really really familiar! Gah, this is gonna drive me crazy, I'm sure I know who this is! I like it anyway :D 12)The beginning to this sounds a lot like Grizzly Bear's “Ready, Able”, but it's not it. I like the trumpets in the intro. Singing about Gorbachev, interesting hehe. I really like the instrumental part starting at 1:48. One of my favourites so far. 13)I like the guitars and the chorus on this one. Good, solid indie pop. 14)This one has a laid back feel to it, with just an acoustic guitar and some piano at the beginning. The singer has a nice voice. The bass and drums that kick in around the 2 minute really lift the song, would've been a bit boring otherwise. I enjoyed it though, the singer has a good voice and he sings with a lot of soul, which is always good! 15)Not too keen on this chap's voice I must say, it sounds like he's struggling to get the words out =/ The music itself is OK though, but I don't know how often I'd listen to it. So, thank you mixtape maker for the effort you put it! I enjoyed it a lot overall. I'd really like to know the tracklist, especially tracks 1, 3, 10, 11, 12 and 14. Thanks! :nice:
  3. I'd totally listen to that!
  4. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: You could start with the Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus double album or Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!, their latest. Murder Ballads is also good, and a great display of Cave's darkly comic lyrics, though it's quite heavy going if you're not used to it. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis had a great soundtrack for the film version of The Road. Though I'd only listen to that if you've read the book/seen the film. His work, once you "get it", is extremely rewarding and you'll keep going back to them! :)

  7. Wild Beasts-Smother Tim Hecker- Ravedeath, 1972 British Sea Power- Valhalla Dancehall Destroyer- Kpautt Explosions in the Sky- Take Care, Take Care, Take Care Kurt Vile- Smoke Ring for My Halo Good year so far
  8. Y'all should listen to Kurt Vile's Smoke Ring for My Halo.
  9. Well put. Couldn't agree more.
  10. Results can be fabricated pretty easily to justify torture (such as in Guantanamo). Also, what guarantees are there to avoid serious physical or mental damage to a suspect? Would the suspect receive treatment if there is said damage, and who would pay for it? Who decides what an imminent threat is? Does torture actually work? These are important questions that shouldn't be left to some shady people with "national security" rhetoric and dodgy political agendas. Egypt has had a long history with torture. I'm sure most of the State Security agents will tell you they did the things they did because of the illusion that they were doing them for their country.
  11. It IS. You just keep thinking "ohh I should've put that song in!!"
  12. I already have a few ideas for a new tape
  13. Pep > Mourinho
  14. Thanks Jules! :awesome:
  15. Yay, I was right  I read you'd be away and there was Muse on there so I figured it out :smug: Maybe I'll get back to listening to Muse; I used to be a big fan of theirs but then I just sort of lost interest in them..I remember really liking Absolution, but I still didn't recognise the two tracks from there  :embarrassed: Thanks again for the tape, I enjoyed it! I'll be checking Metric, White Lies and Susanne Sundfor out fo sho  So I did! Haha, I do really love British Sea Power and Talking Heads, they're awesome :wideeyed: Or maybe my music tastes aren't as diverse as I thought
  16. Still waiting for my mixtape maker to show up :shifty: Though I think I know who it is anyway..
  17. Sure, I'd be happy to answer anything you like :nice: Also, if you need any help finding some of the more "obscure" music, let me know! I'm really glad you enjoyed the tape, it feels good when something you worked on is appreciated so much :cheesy:

  19. Very, very sad. Rest in peace :(
  20. OK, here's my review! 1- Loud, fuzzy guitar feedback. YUM! Great intro. 2- Some fast-paced post-punk guitars and female vocals (more than one?) I like the bassline. I can see this being quite catchy! 3- More dancy guitars that remind me of Bloc Party somehow. I really like the choppy guitar work towards the end. 4- Hmm, the vocals on this sound really familiar...I like it anyway :) 5- More of an electronic feel to this song, with a lot of keyboard/synth. Is this White Lies? I got their first album recently but I haven't listened to it yet! The vocals are again, familiar. I think my partner enjoys an 80s influence in his/her music. 6-Beginning sounds a lot like Sigur Ros, but I don't think it's them..but damn it sounds a lot like Jonsi. Unless it's his solo stuff, maybe..It's very sweet anyway :nice: 7- More 80s influence here, especially with the vocals. It's not bad this, can't say there's that much here to excite me, though :/ 8- Is this Arcade Fire? Sounds a lot like Win hehe, but I don't recognise this at all haha :p I really like it anyway! Especially the outro :nice: 9- I like the sound of this..Great intro with the strings and the mandolin (I think?). Then some cool guitar kicks in too. Really liking this. I think this could be my favourite so far! 10- Starts off with some nice all female a capella singing closely followed by some piano. This is interesting. Has quite a haunting feel to it when the singing stops. Dunno why, but I feel this would do well in a film with forests and lost children and mythical beasts running around after them :wacky: I like it hehe. 11- This is good when the music gets more intense around 1:22. I like the military drumming around the 2 minute mark, this is getting better. Got quite epic towards, but without being too over the top. 12- A much mellower tune after the last one, with just (mostly) female vocals and guitar. She has a nice voice, it's a simple song and it works. 13- More energetic turn now. I like the guitars and the upbeat feel to it, but there's nothing that grabbing about it for me, I'm afraid. 14- Florence and the Machine; her voice is great. Nuff said! 15- Ah, it's Muse. I can't remember what it's called, though. Hysteria? Man, it's been years since I listened to these guys. They're not really my cup of tea anymore, I'm afraid. But an organ outro is always a good way to end a tape :awesome: Overall, I enjoyed my tape, especially tracks 2, 5, 9 and 10. And that cool first track  So thanks to my mixtape maker, I think you put a lot of effort into putting this together which is always appreciated and I had fun listening to it :nice:
  21. I do :awesome:
  22. So where should one start if one was interested in J Dilla, Madvillian and MF Doom? I'd certainly like to listen to more.
  23. I don't know enough about it to be honest, but I'm willing to listen to more. I really like Mos Def and Talib Kweli, and some older stuff like Dead Prez.
