The Mixtape Exchange, Round 3: Swaps complete, please post your reviews
That was mine :nice: I'm really glad you liked it, I tried to make it as diverse as possible. Anyway, here are the tracks! Band Name- Song (Album, Year) 1) No Age- Eraser (Nouns, 2008) This band has been getting a fair deal of coverage lately. They've got a pretty cool DIY work ethic. Thought this would be a great song to start a mix with. 2) The Kills- Love is a Deserter (No Wow, 2005) The Kills are a post-punk/ lo-fi band with a little hint of Blues. I love the band's edgy and catchy sound and this song is a good example of that. 3) Andrew Bird- Fitz & the Dizzyspells (Noble Beast, 2009) The newest track on the mix I think. I find this extremely catchy and just uplifting. Especially the whistling. 4) The National- Mistaken For Strangers (Boxer, 2007) Aren't the drums great? :D They pretty much make the song. When I first heard this, I played and replayed it. They're a terrific band with 4 very good albums out, this being the latest one. 5) TV on the Radio- Halfway Home (Dear Science, 2008) This was a bit of a gamble on my part as I had only just started to get into them. But I felt this song went with the rest of the mix. I'm not sure its bagpipes in the background or just horns on some sort of loop. Great song and album either way! 6) British Sea Power- Remember Me (The Decline of British Sea Power, 2003). These guys just rock! This was the first song I heard by them and it just got me. Its strange how, even though the lyrics are quite dark, it still has a very upbeat, catchy mood to it. 7) Wolf Parade- Fancy Claps (Apologies to the Queen Mary, 2005) One of my favourite albums by a somewhat quirky band. The singer's voice is an acquired taste but as you said, the contrast works well. 8) The Album Leaf- Always For You (Into the Blue Again, 2006) Lovely little song this. What is interesting is that its all one guy playing about 9 different instruments (as well as singing). Not too familiar with the rest of his work but this song is great. 9) The Sea and Cake- Midtown (Oui, 2000) I felt like throwing a surprise into the mix and this is what came up :D. The jazz influences on this band make their sound mellow and relaxing. 10) Talking Heads- Psycho Killer (Talking Heads:77, 1977) Ah you already know this little gem :D Its great, isn't it? It is Talking Heads btw, but there are different versions I think. 11) Wolf Parade- I'll Believe in Anything (Apologies to the Queen Marry, 2005) Its Wolf Parade again! I'm surprised you didn't recognise his voice. The drums on this song are brilliant and can't help but sing along. I'm really glad you like it! 12) Portishead- Glory Box (Dummy, 1994) I love this band! felt it was the best way to end the mix. Really mellow but still grabs your attention from when it crackles till it just fades on out. Their older stuff was a lot jazzier than their latest album, but its all very excellent. I'm really happy you liked it (and that it finally got reviewed :P ). It was a pleasure putting this together and I hope anyone else who listens to it enjoys it as well. The Dead Weather (Jack White's 3rd band)
I was never bothered about the White Strips, but Alison Mosshart is great. She's the epitome of sexy cool.

Hey Felix, thanks for the mixtape again! :) I did notice the crossover actually, nice editing work there. Strange how I didn't recognise Travis or Oasis though  Ah well, thanks again!

OK, so I finished listening to mine. I rather enjoyed it :) here's the track-by-track guide: Track 1 I really liked this, looking forward to seeing out who it is. Starts off with piano music and then gives way to recordings of people shouting at what sounds like a protest. Over this we hear Big Ben and a tape of Winston Churchill. Around 3 minutes in the drums come in. Its got quite a 70s progressive feel to it, so I'm guessing that's what it is. Track 2 Pink Floyd- One of these Days  nice choice Track 3 This sounds familiar. Again got a 70s or 80s feel to it with a lot of synth use there. I like it, nice little guitar solo there too. Track 4 Starts off with a man singing over an acoustic guitar then drums and prominent stings in the back. Really liking the strings in the background. Track 5 Like track 4, this starts off with acoustic guitar and a man singing over it. This is nice, the singer sounds familiar but I can't quite place it. I quite like it, very easy to listen to. Track 6 This starts off with sort of ballroom style piano which gives way to the drums and guitars. Pretty feelgood sound to it. I don't usually like this sort of music, but I can't help tapping my foot along :P Track 7 This is quite a straightforward rock song, perhaps a bit too much for me. But its nice, I like the riff in the middle. Track 8 This begins with a drum beat and then male singing and a guitar. I'm liking this, the singer has a really nice voice. Track 9 The final track starts off with what sounds like wind followed by an electronic beat. Hmm, it sounds similar to the first track, its got the same sort of 70s prog feel to it. ------------------------------------------------------------ Overall, I enjoyed my mixtape, in particular tracks 1, 3 and 8. Maybe it was a little on the short side, but whoever made it did a good job, thanks a lot :)

Metallica
Maiden have consistently made great metal since 1980. Metallica are pretty crap now imo.

Metallica
I can accept someone not liking the Beatles. But the fact remains that if it wasn't for them, you probably wouldn't have most modern music. Maiden > Metallica

At least eleven dead in Finland school shooting
You can draft up as many laws as you want. These shootings are most probably due to social alienation rather than gun laws. RIP to those who died.
