They give you this tiny piece of bread to hold it and then this huge hotdog the size of Chris's 'friend'. It makes you feel very dirty. You feel unclean" What essential items do you take to a festival? Dom: "I find a drumkit is essential for any festival we play these days" Matt: "Black binliners are essential to wear inside your socks if it rains or to use as a toilet if you're scared of the Portaloos. The binliner has many uses." If Muse invented their own festival, what would it involve? Matt: "It'd be good to have a free festival, like in the old days where bands just turned up and did it for nothing. We'd definitely be up for playing a free festival just for the sake of doing it." How should the wearers of 'kerrrazy' festival hats be punished? Matt: "Put them in a pig sty and leave them there. Seriously - lock 'em up in a farm with a load of stupid hats, strip them naked and cover them in manure." How do you cure a festival hangover? Matt: "Hang around the Green Fields with a guitar and some bongos with a bunch of Levellers fans. Or go for a massage! I've had a few. I had a shiatsu one which was really painful - they push pressure points in your body and dig into points until you can't take it anymore and your body gives in and lets go, and after that you get the feeling of immense pleasure" What will you do if it pisses it down? Matt: "If it rains and it's and absolute fucking disaster on Saturday, we'll probably arrive by helicopter half an hour before we have to go onstage. But if it's your first festival experience, I'd say go with it. Get naked, put on a stupid hat, roll around in the mud, and grow some mushrooms round your ring. Then put your mate in a Portaloo, push it over and roll him down the hill. Then give him a cuddle. You can't fight against it." What are the best festival drugs? Matt: "Anything thats natural, like weed and mushrooms. Stay away deom manmade stuff - just use gifts from God." Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Glasto? Matt: "Morrissey's top of the list. He's just different to anyone else who's ever made music." Who won't you be seeing? Matt: "I'm gonna miss Orbital's last ever gig because we're on at the same time as them. One of my first ever gigs was Orbital at Exeter Uni when I was about 16, so that's a shame." 2004 is the year of shroomadelica. Will you partake? Matt: "Shroo... oh, mushrooms? Are they back in fashion again? Well there you go, I'm gonna be fucking all over it! I haven't done mushrooms since we made 'Origin Of Symmetry' - the mushroom season was in as we were recording so we spent a fair bit of time losing the plot. It got pretty intense so I promised i wouldn't take any for a while. I used to travel to Amsterdam at least twice a year, specifically to go and buy mushrooms. We'd lock ourselves in the Vondelpark for three days and sit in the sun eating mushrooms. I haen't done that for years but if they're coming back I'm sure I wouldn't mind a little recap." How do you rate tent sex? Matt: "It's lovely! The last time I did it was last summat when I was camping out in Italy somewhere. It can be very hot, and if you do it on the raw plastic on the bottom, the sweat just kind of stays in little pools and doesn't leave the tent ever. So if it's hot, just go outside." What was your worst festival experience? Matt: "The muddy Glasto a few years back. I lost my shoes moshing to Weezer so had to face the rest of the weekend barefoot. People had been tipping the Portaloos so our tent was covered in cack and everyone kept taking plastic bags inside our tent and using them as toilets. By the end, the tent was stinking of crap and I was walking round with binliners on my feet. Horrible." Muse play the Pyramid Stage at 10.35pm on Sunday hehehe here it is... :P
