The Offical "The Killers" Thread
The Killers are desperate for some time out – or they might end up killing one another. The Las Vegas-based band have been pushed to the limit by the pressure of being constantly on the road. After seven years of making sweet music together, all you can now hear is the sound of squabbling. Desperate to save the band, yet “sick of the sight of each other”, the boys are in talks with management and lawyers to sort out a break. Problem is, the earliest they can take time off is in 2010! The Killers are currently touring Australia and New Zealand. And this summer they will play at Rockwave in Athens, B’est Fest in Bucharest, Spain’s Benicassim and our very own T In The Park and V festivals. Plus, they announced yet another British gig yesterday, at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park in June. Phew! Cracks began to show within the rock four-piece when they came to England in February. The in-fighting got so bad that singer Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr and bassist Mark Stoermer, couldn’t even bear to travel to their gig at London’s 02 Arena together. A band insider tells us: “They’re exhausted. They haven’t had a break since they first formed and it has started getting to them. “When they started out they were all good friends, but they just don’t seem to get on any more. They are sick of the sight of each other. “Brandon tries to be a peacemaker but when he loses it the whole band falls apart. They know taking a break could damage their career but they can’t see a way out and they don’t want to split.” Since they formed in 2002, The Killers have wowed us with three albums – including newie Day & Age – and won the NME’s Best International Band award. But all that work has left the lads precious little “me time”. Last night a spokesman insisted that the band were fine and said they don’t plan as far ahead as 2010. Hmm, we’re getting our tickets now. http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/3am/2009/04/02/the-killers-plagued-by-in-fighting-after-years-on-road-115875-21246390/

Patrick Watson new album: Wooden Arms We're pleased to announce that http://www.wooden-arms.com/ the official website for our new album, is now live, and also streaming a song from the record. The website will be growing as the year progresses, and will be one-stop location for every single and video we release. Wooden Arms is out in just over a month in Canada, and the rest of the world follows suit closely after (you can see all of the various international release dates on the album site). That's how the Wooden Arms tour is going down, too, as the full international tour has now been announced. If you don't see your town here, don't worry, we'll be playing plenty more shows as the year goes on. But this is the first leg... 27 Apr 2009 @ L’Impérial - Québec, Quebec 29 Apr 2009 @ Cabaret La Tulipe - Montreal, Quebec 30 Apr 2009 @ Cabaret La Tulipe - Montreal, Quebec 2 May 2009 @ Trinity St Paul’s - Toronto, Ontario 4 May 2009 @ City Winery - New York, New York 8 May 2009 @ Hotel Café - Los Angeles, California 9 May 2009 @ Cafe du Nord - San Francisco, California 11 May 2009 @ Doug Fir - Portland, Oregon 12 May 2009 @ Crocodile Cafe - Seattle, Washington 13 May 2009 @ Richard’s on Richards - Vancouver, British Columbia 15 May 2009 @ Grand Theatre - Calgary, Alberta 16 May 2009 @ Macdougall United Church - Edmonton, Alberta 24 May 2009 @ Mezz - Breda 25 May 2009 @ AB Box - Brussels 26 May 2009 @ Melkweg - Amsterdam 28 May 2009 @ Ubel und Gefahrlich - Hamburg 29 May 2009 @ Passionkirsche - Berlin 31 May 2009 @ Luxor - Cologne 2 Jun 2009 @ Maroquinerie - Paris 4 Jun 2009 @ Union - London 19 Jun 2009 @ Théâtre Granada - Sherbrooke, Quebec Wooden Arms is Patrick Watson’s highly anticipated follow-up to the critically acclaimed Close to Paradise, which vaulted the man and his band to international stardom in 2007. The Montreal band toured non-stop for two years following initial Canadian release of Close to Paradise in 2006, and in many ways Wooden Arms is the story and sound of a band waking up in strange places all around the world. Whether it’s the bicycle-city sound of “Beijing,” or the warmth of “a hole in the wall” in “sweet New Orleans” on “Big Bird in a Small Cage,” or the haunting European waltz of the title track, you can’t help but feel in listening to Wooden Arms like you’re on the road with the band. Sometimes it’s dirty, sometimes it’s wild, but it’s never, ever boring. Close to Paradise won Canada’s prestigious Polaris Prize in 2007, turning more than a few heads in beating out offerings from Arcade Fire and Feist, among others. By the time it saw release in the United States, Europe and Japan, the band was flying all over the world, garnering rave reviews for the album and their blistering live show alike. When the dust had settled the band had written enough songs on the road to lay down a new record in a few short months at the end of 2008 in Montreal. On the album’s opener, “Fireweed,” Watson sings, “So we dug ourselves a hole, and planted all our skin; like a seed in the ground, to grow again.” And you can hear stripped down rejuvenation all over Wooden Arms; Watson’s voice and orchestrations shine brighter against a rhythmic percussive foundation that has been brought to the forefront. But Wooden Arms isn’t just the sound of a band learning how to build a slicker wall of sound together. The playful album closer “Machinery of the Heavens” is almost a full on swing-tune; “Big Bird in a Small Cage” proves they’re capable of producing a perfect country-pop song, and fans of “The Great Escape” from Close to Paradise will have a hard-time resisting the heart-wrenching just-voice-and-guitar of “Man of Like You.” Perhaps most importantly though, Wooden Arms showcases both Watson and his bandmates as genuine composers, and the serious musicians that they are—from the orchestral pull of “Tracey’s Waters,” to Simon Angell’s noise-twang on “Traveling Salesman” to drummer Robbie Kuster’s jaw-dropping performances and his string piece “Hommage,” to the anchor of Mishka Stein’s bass on the instrumental freak-out number, “Down at the Beach.”
