  1. Back onto subject. I think he does have some fair points. Chris Martin is the centerpiece of the band but that's also by design, he's too energetic not too be. For U2 The Edge and Bono are the main focus points of the band, neither Adam nor Larry seem particularly bothered by it, they speak in public and all that, just aren't where the cameras are most of the time, same as Bono. I don't really agree with his second point, nor do I understand it. He says that Martin knows a good hook while nearly half of Coldplay songs now are defined by guitar parts, which are of course developed by Buckland. Along with this, I think it's quite harsh to say the songs go nowhere. The lyrics remind me of Robert Frost. Not to say that Martin is near as good as the great poet, but the idea of getting bigger meanings across in simple ways. Martin has said though that he wants to improve on the lyrics. It's kind of hard to listen to Coldplay and really admire the lyrics after hearing lines by other bands (like Arctic Monkeys or the sort) who are playing appealing music but are also putting real heart and meaning into the words. I'd say the Apple comment is just a joke. It's been said so many times before. I'd rather any child be named Apple over Dweezil. Coldplay have never really acted like hardasses so it's fine that he acts somewhat vulnerable, although that particular quote is quite cheesy. Late night shows have had a good time with Coldplay, same as they do now with James Blunt, but it's all in good humor, same as people making fun of Yorke's way of muttering lyrics and spazzing out live and Bono wearing ridiculous glasses. I can agree that Coldplay is not alternative, they are mainstream music and should be presented as such. Oasis are full of shit. They say funny things, they say dumb things, they say one thing then go back on it. They said the Arctic Monkeys would go nowhere with their name. And ate shit for it. So who really gives a fuck? It's Oasis. They're two steps from death and have actually regressed with every album since Definitely Maybe, never taking the next step. X&Y was overproduced, but obviously had amazing potential, has brought some great songs to the world, and has layed the roots for a super live show needed to truly hit the top of the musical world. Also, agreed on the needing to put more heart into their songs. For all of their working for causes, such melancholy in songs is a near betrayal of those they're helping, it doesn't work to try to help those in other countries with kind speech and signer-uppers at live shows when you just sing about everything being alright. Just my two cents on his two cents. :)
  2. it's a personal decision i suppose, a decision able to be made by the wealthy but one must think about how those in other professions cannot do this, and it seems somewhat strange, nonsensical really that at the height of their popularity, U2 comparisons, one of the world's biggest tours etc. they say people are sick of them (multiplatinum album X&Y) and are going into seclusion. as a performer you hope to provide people will as much quality music as you can. sheltering yourself isn't the kind of step they should be taking, there's been nothing to break them up. nobody said they were bigger than jesus, chris martin never passed out during a concert, guy never destroyed will's drums, just seems like they've tired of what they're doing. dissapointing really, 3 albums in 6 years and they're ready to wait for a long itme. we'll see, but i suppose a lot of bands have taken breaks and reformed themselves, u2 did it to great avail, radiohead have done it with yet to be seen results. by the way - the christ martin being given too much public attention over the three is a good point to me. theres not a picture where he doesnt take all of the attention, itd be nice to see a little more even distribution of their publicity.
  3. Due to unfortunate events a friend and I will not be able to attend the Coldplay show in Oklahoma City on February 27th as we had planned. Our tickets were floor, section 7, we'll sell them for face value don't want to rip anyone off, they were $65, so if there is anyone who is interested feel free to contact via PM or here, or on E-mail at [email protected] I've seen Coldplay once before so I am sort of upset but the money will go towards a future festival and I hope this will let two other Coldplay lovers get to see the show.[/img]
  4. I like you guys ideas, I'm going to do a realistic one, same relative length as the one now, incorporating songs they've played now. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Radiohead would be even more pissed at Coldplay if they decided to start covering their songs live. Anyways, using songs they've played live on this tour for the first one. 1. Square One 2. Shiver 3. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face 4. Yellow 5. Speed of Sound 6. How You See The World 7. The Scientist 8. X&Y 9. Don't Panic 10. Everything's Not Lost Acoustic Set 11. Till Kingdom Come 12. Ring Of Fire 13. Trouble Electric 14. Swallowed In The Sea 15. Clocks 16. Talk Encore 17. Politik 18. In My Place 19. Fix You I like this setlist because I want to hear trouble acoustic really bad, and even though Square One/Politik have opened up the entire tour, I think "Politik" would be great when they come back for the encore, loads of energy and would get people back into it intensely. My dream setlist for this tour would go, let's see... 1. Square One 2. A Rush Of Blood To The Head 3. Don't Panic 4. What If 5. Spies 6. Yellow 7. Speed Of Sound 8. The Scientist 9. X&Y 10. Trouble 11. Everything's Not Lost Acoustic Set 12. Till Kingdom Come 13. We Never Change 14. Amsterdam 15. Sleeping Sun 16. Shiver Electric 17. Swallowed In The Sea 18. Warning Sign 19. Clocks 20. Talk Encore 21. Politik 22. Moses 23. In My Place 24. Fix You Haha, 24 songs. Not quite two hours in song time, so I suppose that's doable, although that'll never be done live. Although if it were, I'd die.
  5. Pedals don't just make weirder sounds, so much of guitar is getting a mix between a good guitar and good pedals, because without them you miss out on a lot of opportunities And yes there are effects pedals but they're usually useless and sometimes you'll try something like distortion on electric and it sounds like shit. Plus, as you're not really understanding all of the ideas behind pedals, it's probably best to just get an acoustic and roll with that. :)
  6. :) It's obvious they don't just use prerecorded things. They do at some points in their performance, most bands do. U2 does it a lot in love performances too. "Fix You" is an example of a song that's changed in the live version, sometimes you hear things and they just aren't the same, for the better. Yellow is played on acoustic and electric in the recording, and live it's electric. Sometimes you just have to have less ignorant friends, and know how to spell retarded.
  7. I really don't think this is fair. He's got a really good style which compliments their style well because it's a simplified sound, but to call him the best drummer in the world is preposterous because there're some fucking brilliant drummers out there who are well better than him. He's really good at it, but it's not a natural instrument for him, so calling him the best drummer would be like calling Buckland the best guitarist. He's just a very talented musician with a great sense of rythm.

    fucking pathetic
  11. Okay, this past fall I saw Coldplay closing out the Austin City Limits Festival and it was phenomenal yadda yadda. Anyways, I remember slightly from the time, but before they came out, like 5 minutes prior, they started playing rap music. I mean, the drums were up, the piano was set up they had the instruments all tuned and all of that, and they were playing rap music haha. I thought it very weird and now I go back and listen to the recordings and there it is, clear as day. They're playing rap music! Then Coldplay come out and it's melodic and beautiful, but they played rap music beforehand through the speakers. My question is did this happen at any other Coldplay shows that anyone here has seen? Thought it was very funny.
  12. You need to figure it out yourself. The quality of the guitar, or acoustic or electric really don't matter at first, it's just playing that really makes the different, learning scales and simple songs to keep you occupied, learning chords and then musical theory. Then in time you'll start to appreciate the difference and be able to pick your preference. Pedals are great, since you're into simple stuff and one guitar kind of bands, they're what make guitarists like Edge or Buckland able to fill songs without another guitarist, especially delay which in some cases makes it seem like two guitars over one. :)
  13. In My Place is easiest because it's the same sort of riff then a few under the chorus, which means you can get the whole song down with pretty much one riff. Fix You seems easy enough but don't play it the 5/12 or 4/11 way on just the two strings, watch the videos and figure out what Johnny is doing because it's not that, he's playing a chord and sliding it up. Don't Panic is easy, has a cool sort of rythm to it.
  14. 'What If' would be phenomenal, such a powerful song and one of my favourites off of X&Y. Spies of course would be great, Warning Sign would be amazing. I'd also fancy hearing them do a few covers. :D I heard they played "Here Comes The Sun" in the past and I'd love to hear them play that, I'd also like to hear "Wonderwall" or one of the big Oasis hits because of all the shit Oasis say about them. I'd also fancy a U2 cover, something like "Without or Without You" or "Streets" because so much of their style is influenced by U2 that they'd do a good cover I'm sure. But as to any other Coldplay songs, I'd love to hear "Sleeping Sun" or "Ode" like someone said.
  15. shit decision its a decent song, but way too much like "wild honey" by U2 too much of a rip off, and there's at least three or four songs that're better on the album
