mmm, interesting thread! ;) In my opinion, generally classics are always much better than covers. And the same I think about films: the original one is much better than the remake. Although I consider a good idea to make things more modern, people who are doing these covers/remakes should realize what they're doing won't be that great as the original ones. I have a theory that can be applied to nearly everything: even though you try to reproduce all the factors, situations and so on, which someone else did the the original version, you'll never achieve the same result than it. Originality plays a big role. It's just like when you had an amazing experience with someone in a place you loved... this situation will never happen anymore, although you go to the same place with the same person. You won't live so intensely those moments like you did the first time.
