Lovers in Japan is Rebellion (lies)
I have been thinking the exact same thing. I can't believe someone else heard it the same way. I love Arcade Fire, and I love this song. But wouldn't call it a rip off as much as the Chinese Chant song is a straight rip off of My Bloody Valentine. I love that too.

The Estranged
Hey, to all. It's been awhile since I've been on here. Just got the new album and have been loving it. Anyway, I just wanted to talk to you Coldplay fans (incredibly friendly and good-hearted people that you are) about a serious situation in my life. I'm 25 and thinking about cutting off all contact from my family. My family is fairly dysfunctional (at least I think: maybe most modern families are dysfunctional; but I'm damn sure mine is). I've had serious problems with my parents for some time. And I'm not a very forgiving person. I hate that about myself. But I do forgive in life. The problem with my parents is that they feel there is nothing they should be forgiven for regarding their relationship with me. So why should I forgive people who feel there is nothing they should be forgiven for? I can forgive them to myself. But there is also something called "forgive and forget" isn't it? In my case, it would be "forgive and move on." Rape victims forgive the ones who raped them, but they don't exactly invite them for tea every Sunday, do they? Maybe that's an unfair analogy, but I think my point is clear. I haven't loved my parents for some time; there are no feelings there. I'm the oldest of 3 boys, and I don't talk to them either. I feel very bad about this, since my brothers are just my peers, but I feel as if so much time has passed that none of us cares about building a relationship now. This situation is fairly heavy and concerns me. I just wanted to get your input. I'm feeling like I'm entering into a new realm of the human condition, a realm in which I can go to the grocery store and tell the estranged ones from everybody else; and we won't exactly look like the happiest people there. I'm feeling very depressed about my situation, but I feel as if it's the best thing to do. What do you think? I'd appreciate your response.

Understood. I didn't read the entire thread before posting. :)

Racism alive and well in wake on Katrina disaster
Looting (definition #1) - being born poor and black in America; enduring a devastating natural disaster (a natural disaster which wouldn't have been so devastating if only your government cared to fix the levees in your poor, black town); waiting for days without assistance from your government (which is busy on Broadway showing the rest of the world how much it cares by aiding others across the Atlantic in their natural disaster); and then stealing some items from your local mall. Looting (definition #2) - escaping religious persecution from your country; fleeing across the Atlantic to a free land; stealing that land away from the natives and killing most of them off with your guns and diseases; years later, stealing millions of people from their countries across the Atlantic to work as slaves for you; employing those slave's descendants at your local malls to serve you food, clean your toilets, and mop your floors (sounds familiar, doesn't it?); and then expecting those descendants not to steal anything from your local malls. I guess looting begets itself, doesn't it? Interesting how that doesn't seem to click in the United States of America. But I guess looting is okay as long as you employ defintion #2, rather than definition #1. Because definition #1 might land you in jail or in your own coffin, but defintion #2 might land you in your very own gated, posh neighborhood with a country club where you and your fellow residents are seriously talking about building your own malls.

However, a lot of what you (in London, at that) "heard" was fantastic rumor and simply not true. The documentary covers that if you care to watch it.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Hey, everyone. I just discovered Muse today. I got Black Holes & Revelations. It's amazing. This is my new shit. Take A Bow sounds a lot like Philip Glass to me. He's one of my fave artists. He's a minimalist composer. I'm really impressed with this album. I'm going to have to get into their old stuff now. Anybody know any artists like them. I'd love to know. Thanks.

I guess I should really listen to Jeff Buckley. He seems to be the most popular one here. I only know him because a version of Hallelujah plays at the end of Basquiat, and I found Jeff Buckley's version on the internet. Beautiful song. Great movie.

How far have you gone to see a Coldplay concert?
I traveled about 375 miles from Macon, GA to Florida to see them in Orlando and Tampa. That Tampa concert is one of the best concerts I've ever been to: outdoors (great sound), amphitheatre, and Fiona Apple opening. It doesn't get much better than that. Well worth the travel.

In no particular order, I really love (for non-classical music): Michael Stipe Michael Jackson Lauryn Hill Cassandra Wilson Kelis- style of the next coldplay album
I think it'll be nosier. Kinda like what R.E.M. did with Monster when Peter Buck wanted to get away from the sweet-sounding mandolin stuff for awhile. But I still think Coldplay will give us some piano and a couple ballads.- [Petition] Bring Back Coldplay @ Toronto DVD
