U2 and bands who pretend to be them... Coldplay included
I agree with most of your statements. I agree that Kid A takes a whole other approach to Electronics brought into a standard guitar based Alt-Rock band's music. Radiohead did a lot more and had more IDM influences obviously and literally took the guitars out of many of the tracks. But U2 "did it first" and I've always thought that Amnesiac was very much a mirror of what U2 did with Zooropa, a less publicized companion piece that was a bit of leftovers from the primary album. Coldplay is clearly looking at a similar musical terrain that U2 used to dominate. There's no reason to deny the influence as Chris does mention it often. However "cheap U2 rip-off" comparisons really don't do a lot of justice to what Coldplay has been able to do in the last 8 years. That said when it comes to breaking new musical ground Coldplay hasn't ventured as far as either Radiohead or U2. Not that there's anything wrong with that. How much musical ground is left to explore without getting into Indie wankery? They've at least sounded much more interesting yet again. No I don't think so at all. In fact, Bono has often complained of being "lonely at the top". They're welcoming the success of the new generation of bands and yet not seeing the continued success of many of them. Basically alt-bands going dark & experimental rather than embracing a wider audience. I mean does Chris get mad at Elbow, Embrace, and Keane? No he touts their music. however you'll likely find U2 fans in arms about Coldplay "ripping off their music" http://forum.interference.com/f189/im-sorry-if-wrong-thread-but-coldplay-wants-u2-187409.html LOL. Here's a U2 forum thread thread regarding the SAME article: http://forum.interference.com/f189/popular-band-whove-ripped-off-u2-188341.html Good, for the most part they aren't agreeing with the article.

Latest ALBUM MEANING?
Well the 2 political songs of the album would be Viva la Vida and Violet Hill. Viva may or may not refer to any current administration but it does seem to tell the tale of a former dictator who finds himself corrupted and overthrown. Violet Hill is definitely about the political situation NOW. But as with all of Chris's lyrics they can take on several meanins. Violet Hill can just as much be about having a "boss you hate working for" as a strained relationship. But it does work best as a political song about America.

**Coldplay Song Summer Madness**
Thx, Well I'll only elongate each match if there's ties. Otherwise I may be lucky to get to a page 2 at this rate. Next set of matches i think I'll state that the game will go for the first 15 votes and then end. While going by pages is easy its a slow process. I'd rather reward those who respond quick then wait for stargglers.

**Coldplay Song Summer Madness**
At half-time Match 1: AROBTTH is playing surprisingly strong game against the favored 42 which has been plagued by injuries and mistakes. Score is currently 9-3 with AROBTTH clearly ahead. Match 2: Animals has been dominated all game long by the co-ed team of Brothers & Sisters and has nearly avoided being shut out. Score is 11-1 at the half. Match 3: This is the game to watch. Clocks has been neck and neck all match with Cemeteries of London who is showing a youthful energy despite his team name. Score is close with Clocks leading 7-5. Is time ticking out on the former champion? Match 4: Don't Panic is showing that its veteran team can compete well against its cheery competitor Daylight. Don't Panic leads 8-4 and seems clearly confident. Summer Madness commences with second half action!

if you see this album cover, run.
I tried talking to her sensibly. Don't beat a person with a stick when you have a carrot. It's a blog dear. It's free. Why anyone would read a blog that's simply weak opinion is another valid question.

Rolling Stones leave EMI
Things just keep looking down since thepost-Coldplay release layoffs for the label..... http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/26/arts/music/26stones.html?ref=arts "The Rolling Stones are leaving EMI, the record label that has released their music since the early 1990’s, and have signed a long-term recording deal with the Universal Music Group, the company announced. The contract could yield the band an estimated $15 million, according to people close to the negotiations who were not authorized to speak about them publicly. “Universal are forward thinking, creative and hands-on music people,” the band said in a statement. “We really look forward to working with them.” In addition to new recordings, the deal calls for a thorough new release of the band’s catalog online. With the new arrangement, which takes effect immediately, Universal will distribute all of the Rolling Stones’ recordings for the first time; the company had distributed the Stones’ music from before 1971, released on the Abkco label, while EMI had distributed most of the material issued after that, beginning with the 1971 album “Sticky Fingers.” EMI will continue to control the band’s lucrative publishing rights.
