OOPS! It's not CSI Miami, but the better version of the show... CSI! Anyway, great night to finally get to the boob tube! I was flipping the channels after watching Ugly Betty (which had Lost! playing at the end!!!) and I came across the intro to CSI, featuring 42 of all things!!! I'm a happy girl! :D

anybody know what is the meaning of number 42 in coldplay's song?

Suggest an alternative title for 42. As the song's actual title, it may not necessarily contain a line from the lyrics. I suggest....."Those who are dead".

Does anyone have an MP3 of this song from the Today Show? Chris adds all kinds of ooohs and ahhs that I really want to be able to listen to in my car and/or pn my iPod.

I have my own personal interpretation of 42 I don't think anyone else has. I think 42 is about religion. (See, I have evidence!) Exhibit A: "Those who are dead are not dead, they're just living in my head." The singer is very sad because people he loves are dying and he doesn't know what's happened to them, only that he remembers them and he misses them very very much etc. "And since I fell for that spell, I am living it as well/ Time is so short and I'm sure there must be something more." Converted to the religion, and is really "living" it ie being very devoted for it or whatever. However, the song is still very slow and unsure, he's not sure if those people …

Best Coldplay song ever, straight from the first listen. For everyone really, a soft piano part near the start then the hardest rocking coldplay have ever done after the middle :D Who agrees?

Pointless thread, but that part makes my LIFE. :D It's just... the most brilliant section of the song, and it makes it all come together. It's also what makes it the most addicting song on VLV... you just want to keep listening to those lines, over and over.

Is imho Harry Potter, the last one (Deathly Hallows). It's all in the last few chapters :) Just finished reading the book again the other day, and I was surprised I hadn't spotted it the first time. To be fair, Chris and the boys' song is a much better treatment of the very same situation (and better to dance to, that's for sure :laugh3:) but at least now I understand exactly what inspired the lyrics. And it's very romantic (in a slightly gothic sense) dontcha think? And, how poetic! One cannot exist while the other one lives (or whatever it was exactly).

After finishing re-watching Coldplay on The Daily Show, I listened to "42" again. I noticed that at 1:45 you can hear a voice say "What" during the instrumental break before the lyric "you thought you might be a ghost..." Anyone hear ghost like voice?

Pointless thread, but I thought it was kinda strange and when ever I hear that part I think of why he didn't say "almost" :laugh3:

They used the song "42" for an ad here in the Netherlands! It was an ad on RTL4 for CSI, Bones and CSI: New York. It was so awesome :D

Anyone watching CSI? The opening scene of tonight's episode was set to a Coldplay song ("42"). Nice surprise. :)

Dear good people, "42" could be a "heads-up" to one of Coldplay's alleged greatest influences-U2. U2 recorded a song titled "40" for their third studio album, titled "War". "40" alluded to the psalms and contained pieces of it. The song was of longing and desperation, and simply not measuring up. By the way, Moses and those who went on the Exodus spent 40 years in the wilderness. Refer to the Book of Exodus in the Bible, if your heart so desires.

I dont know if it is just me but with every review I read I am more and more excited about hearing this song. Apparently this song is the centerpiece of the whole album. Read a lot of reviews and all of them mention 42 in it.

An advert for a programme on channel 5 in the UK just played '42' - huge grin over my face :D:D

Does anybody else think 42 sounds kind of the B-Side of The Beatles' "Abbey Road", with the transitions and evrything?

not sure if anyone else has written this so i apologize in advanced if they have....but i can't help but notice the guys are playing 42 along with other singles such as clocks...and In My Place, very noticebale from the today show.

the moment "Time is so short and i am sure there must be something wrong" this moment is nearly pefect music don't you think ? but without OooHhh in continuing part overally this song deserves my rate of 9/10 how do you think ?

Is it just me...or does "42" sort of "run in to" "Lost in Japan"?? One can't help but ponder. One seems to answer the other...as do "most" Coldplay songs. Hm. :thinking: Having "re"-read this...hm...I don't know her^. No drugs, no alcohol...just pure madness. How sad...how very sad. Shame on me. *retreats in shame*

for those of you who have gotten to see them live lately... WHO is playing the second e-guitar during 42?? cos I saw the bbc gig video and chris was playing an acoustic. It's minute 2:15 of 42 ...so does anyone know?

This one was a bit of a let down for me. I really like Part 1, don't care much for Part 2 (sounds like a spinoff version of Go to Sleep guitar riffs), and Part 3 I really don't like.. I think it sucks to be honest. I wish I could like this song in its entirety, but it's just not working for me. don't think this one quite works like a 3 part epic they had intended it to be. It starts off so well, and I don't know what happens in the middle and in the end. So much for going slightly experimental (within the realm of Coldplay world)
