  1. I've been notified. I'm volunteering for the first show of the tour (May 15) and about two weeks ago, I was notified. After you're notified though, you have to confirm that you will be able to volunteer at a certain time. I confirmed about two weeks ago, and yesterday I got an e-mail from my team leader telling me what to expect, with more details to follow. It was a list of what not to do, what to wear, not to bring a friend, there will be seating for volunteers, how to get to the venue, etc... I'm thinking that people get notified about a month before the actual gig they offered to volunteer for, so if you applied for a spot later on in the summer, you'll get confirmation closer to the date of the actual show.
  2. Aside from the amazing generosity of the band, and the gratitude being shown by us fans... Am I the only one who thinks this is kind of nice, considering everyone who criticizes Coldplay thinks of them as a giant, corporate-controlled musical act. Attention haters: This is a real rock band, and they will do as they please regardless of label names and sizes. Stick it to the man, Coldplay!
  3. Reading all of these stories is so cool. A lot of people listen to Coldplay because of their parents...I had no idea! My mom could care less about Coldplay, you guys are lucky! For me, it started with random Coldplay downloads senior year of high school after seeing "In My Place" on MTV every single night. (For some reason MTV was playing videos in the evening for a while?). I only loved "Trouble" and "Yellow," and left it at that...I didn't buy the AROBTTH and "Parachutes" until freshman year of college in 2003, though. Then in '04, here in Florida we had three hurricanes hit us one after the other. My power was out for days, and all I had was my portable CD player that ran on batteries. Those albums were my life. "Spies" became my favorite track during those days without electricity. I haven't looked back since. And I've been laughed at for liking Coldplay, (especially after "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" came out!) and people have told me they are horrible. Whatever. This music represents a big part of my life. I have cried and laughed to it. I'm not a radio listener and never thought I'd love the music made by such a popular mainstream band, but I do. It's amazing too. Coldplay fans unite. We're all great for it! I love all the stories. People are still discovering them, which is the best part. From the first batch of English fans to the people who just found the music, we're all great for it. We love Coldplay, that's all.
  4. That's the second thing that came into my mind, after freaking out about the news of the album! I just thought, "Where's the GPASUYF/Talk live mix?!?" That's something you can't hear anywhere else, and I personally loved it. It would have sounded better than the bootleg version I have, LOL. But if they took a poll of the most popular tracks to put on a live album, that might not have made the list then :( Oh well, I'm still not complaining. This is amazing!!!! I also think the whole album will be up for download, not just LeftRightLeftRightLeft. I hope the track makes it in there, even though it's not listed. And I love the symbolism of the artwork, and how only those who have seen the live show will recognize it ;) This is extremely nice of them, and I'm glad that even though Coldplay lives a bajillion miles away from me and doesn't know my name, or the names of most of their fans, they are still nice enough to acknowledge the fact that we are there, and we support them, even when some of us (me) are strapped for cash. I have always liked to think that Coldplay is worth the money. I mean, the shows kick ass and the albums are amazing. This gesture now proves that they are worth it; they care beyond just going on tour and putting out CD's. Gracias Coldplay!
  5. I thought if you had filled out an application and got an introductory email, you had until early may to reply...I can't remember off the top of my head though. I just remember I got an email and it said that if I did want to take up Oxfam's offer to volunteer, then I should confirm my appearance. I just emailed the girl back, and I had to be willing to arrive at a certain time, and then be willing to leave at a certain time. 30 minutes away is nothing. Keep buttering your mom up! Tell her that not letting you go to Coldplay for free 30 minutes away, but letting you go to The Killers out of state, is twisted logic!
  6. Agreed. I would like to think that if someone sat Coldplay down, and let them know the details of how LiveNation works, they wouldn't put up with their crap and take a stand. But that's what I'd like to think! Right now they probably see it as a business type of situation that has to happen for the show to go on...If they only knew. I was super bored yesterday, and ended up looking at some old Coldplay set lists. Old, like when they were playing to 150 people in the UK. And I thought, "I can't even imagine Coldplay playing, and only 150 people showing up." It was about 9 years ago. Funny though, because you look at the tour for the next year, and they were playing waaaaay more. And then by the next year that was it. They were huge. They were meant to do it this way, big, and for lots of people. I still wish I could've been one of those 150 in that crowd!
  7. I say stay on standby for Oxfam, because out of the people that they offered to volunteer, sometimes not all of them confirm their appearance to volunteer, and they instead offer the spot to people on a waiting list. So there is still a pretty good chance you could volunteer.
  8. Awesome, you're going out of Florida to see them some more this summer?! That's amazing :) If you and your classmate are going to the same show, it makes sense to travel together. Carpooling is more economic! So I still have my ticket, lol. Do we know how successful eBay is with selling tickets? I just don't want to lose my money. Also, got an Oxfam e-mail again today. I was told I'd get more details once the show got closer, yay! Are there any other Coldplayers besides us volunteering that show? I can't wait, I just want it to be here now.
  9. Sadly, I think LiveNation will keep up their ripping off practices until the musical acts themselves take a stand. Lots of big name musicians (and their fans) together can make a difference, I hope.
  10. totally off topic, but dfit00, i just noticed your 2009 concert schedule is exactly the same as mine! last week my friend informed me that she had committed me to the u2 show, lol. florida this summer is packed with shows.
  11. totally off toopic, but dfit00, i just noticed your 2009 concert schedule is exactly the same as mine! last week my friend informed me that she had committed me to the u2 show, lol. florida this summer is packed with shows.
  12. Yay! Congrats to you! Mine said to report at 4:00 p.m. :) Weeeeellllll....Since I'm volunteering, this means my ticket is up for sale, so if your classmate wants it?? It's a Section 6, Row P, Seat 9 ticket. I can't remember the seating chart off the top of my head, but I believe it's somewhere right along the middle (albeit not in the front :/) I'm gonna ask my friends if they're interested at all as well. I know one of my friends skipped this show 'cos she couldn't buy the ticket at the time. Maybe now she could? I'll check with her. I realized that if I'm volunteering, I'm probably not going to get to see Pete Yorn open, which makes me sad (I love his music), but I really wanted to work for Oxfam, so I'll get over it , lol. This should be so cool, I'm excited! (And holy crap! 100 posts! It only took me like three and a half years. I'm a slowpoke.)
  13. Got an email from Oxfam today: I can volunteer!
  14. Maybe it's because arranged with only the piano, but I think the band would actually like it? I just finished listening to it... Quirky points for "Be my Chris and I'll be your Gwyneth," though :) But it wasn't a good job like she said, 'cos she messed up quite a bit, and it was kind of a choppy performance. Probably because she was just joking...
  15. Thanks! I need all the luck I can get, 'cos I don't win things, lol. I really can't wait for these two shows. I've been studying for this big June exam, and Coldplay is just gonna set me free of the stress of the stupid test. By August I will be free and Coldplay ready. I've also gotta buy a supply of glowsticks to try to light up my section! They're not expensive and that's a good thing.
  16. One of the radio stations here in Orlando/Central Florida is giving away tickets to the Tampa show... ...You go to their website, click on "Music" and then scroll and click on "Mix at Six," and fill out the blanks. You make your own playlist, pretty much. If your mix is chosen to get played on the air, you can win tickets to the Tampa show. I'm gonna try, even if it's a super long shot!
  17. Thanks for this. I signed up to volunteer later this year; hopefully I'll get the opportunity. It looks like quite the experience, and after three Coldplay shows where I was approached by volunteers (and a friend who volunteered as well) I want to help spread the word, plus you get to meet all kinds of people too :) Very cool video.
  18. I'll definitely be heading out to this show, if a road trip is easier for some of you, then we could totally go that route :) This show will probably my favorite, because PETE YORN is opening!! I love him; he's one my favorite songwriters, and he's gonna be opening a few of the shows, including this one! I cannot believe this– it makes up for missing Richard Ashcroft by a single day (and getting Fiona Apple instead) during the Twisted Logic tour. Woohoo! Who else is excited?!
  19. Thank you! We'll wait and see, I guess. I'm holding on to my ticket until I get word. I'd much rather volunteer though! The lot of those pit tickets were not on sale at 10:00am Friday or Monday, I don't care what LiveNation says. That we see a handful of them on these scalper sites for more than the maximum $130 price LiveNation put on the ticket proves this. And I love Coldplay to pieces, but I cannot pay $300+ for a concert ticket :( The most I've ever paid was about $200, and it was for a once-in-a-lifetime show that I never thought would happen, lol. Maybe someday Coldplay will like my idea of the smaller venue B-sides tour, and then I'll finally be able to rock out to them front row center like I've always wanted. Someday! Either way, Coldplay two times this summer is a big deal!
  20. Wow. What a crock of complete poo. I'm speaking for everyone who was in front of his/her computer before 10am, and got to clicking as soon as the clock hit 10am! They lie like this because they know we can't prove otherwise...Thanks for sharing this though. It's nice to see that LiveNation not only rips off the customer with dishonesty, but also does it with a friendly tone! I've just filled out an application for Oxfam, though. Very cool, but I realized I might have a hard time getting selected, seeing as I live 2 hours away from West Palm :\ We'll see... I hope everyone is satisfied with what they got. I got notice yesterday my ticket was in the mail.
  21. Neither has my friend, which is why I couldn't pressure her into coming to West Palm too. I told her the offer was there, but I wasn't like, "You HAVE to come with me!" This is going to be a fun summer though. Twice in '08, twice in '09. All the stars have aligned themselves for us Floridians this year!
  22. OMG nevermind. This seat chart is smaller, section 4 is off to the side and section 6 is in the back! Damn me! (Should have looked at the 2-d chart before buying. Crap crap crap)
  23. Thanks for this! I'll be looking out. I really wanna do it. You help out a good cause and you save money, and get to meet other people. My friend said she'd come along if we could volunteer as well. Lots of us are strapped for cash after the $130 from the Tampa show!
  24. Is it? I thought it was the exact same size as the Ford Amphitheater. They're both LiveNation venues, and they have the same layout.. I'm still pulling section 4...wow. I guess everyone's got their Tampa ticket and said, "I don't need West Palm," leaving all these good seats still available. Or not!
  25. Sounds good! I got this ticket, but I'm thinking Oxfam might be better, more fun than going alone. I've always wanted to do it, and a friend of mine did it for their Dallas show and she said she liked it. How does one go about signing up, though?
