Coldplay in New Zealand? [2009]
Hehe, I can understand Billy Connolly quite OK. I'm a Londoner living out here anyway. Top Gear are her as part of their live world tour. http://www.topgearlive.co.nz/

That's a shame. I know what you mean. I'm also going on a trip shortly afterwards and I'm already going to Billy Connolly and Top Gear around the same time as this concert. There's never anything on here when you're not trying hard to save! Lol.

Coldplay in New Zealand? [2009]
If they were going to go anywhere else in NZ then it would surely have been announced the same time. If there are to be any more shows here, it will be a 2nd one in Auckland if this one sells out fast.

Oh well. You can still get on the internet pre-sale. It won't sell out in the pre-sales. I think there's limited tickets for them anyway. It may sell out quickly when it goes to general sale on Monday. Just register yourself on ticketmaster so you can easily get one on Saturday. :)

Yeah see my post above. Friday is a VISA pre-sale, then Saturday is a ticketmaster internet pre-sale. So if you don't have a VISA card, at least make sure you register on ticketmaster so you get in before the general sale. :)

There will probably be a 2nd show. Usually these bands announce one show first but if it sells out really quickly (ie, Red Hot Chili Peppers sold out in minutes or something crazy) then they add a 2nd show the next day or something because of the high demand. I imagine this will get pretty close to selling out on Monday so there should be a 2nd one announced.

It's a VISA pre-sale. I can't remember how I've done them before but I think you just register to https://www.visaentertainment.co.nz/Home.aspx then login when the pre-sale opens and you get a link or a password through there. Have to have a VISA card obviously.

Yeah public transport is terrible and it would be a nightmare getting back to Howick where I live at that time of night so much better to drive. Where did you see that price range? Bit more expensive than I expected. Thought the highest would be roughly $130 or so but it's still not too bad considering how one off this is living here.

Awesome news, just seen it on the news this evening. I'll be there for sure, first chance to see them live. :) They missed us out last time due to no decent venue but now we have the new Vector Arena everyone who goes to Australia is coming here at the same time. VISA pre-sale on Friday. As for parking arrangements, when I've been to Vector I tend to park in the Downtown carpark. Bit of a walk I know but at least I know the car is safe, and I've always been with a mate so we grab something to eat at downtown beforehand anyway. What does anyone else do?

For a starting point, I think just listening to each album in order is the way to go. Or you might like to listen to the Singles compilation album which as the name suggests is all the singles from their first 4 albums (there have been 2 albums since then).

Anyone manage to get a ticket for the stadium gigs yesterday? Managed to get myself a Wembley ticket. Can't wait. Been waiting for a chance to see them live for a decade or so, but I live in New Zealand. Now just need to make sure I book a trip to London! :D

It's certainly climbing up my rankings too. Non-stop listening since I acquired it on Friday has taken it above The Boy With No Name and it's closing in on the top 2 - The Invisible Band and The Man Who. 'Song To Self' has to be in my top 5 Travis songs too. :) Now I just need them to come to NZ and do a show when they presumably tour Asia/Australia early next year. Such a shame they no longer get the commercial recognition that some of the bands they effectively brought into existence do. With good promotion, 'Song To Self' could hopefully do really well as a single.

I am finally in possession of a physical copy of the album! :D As I said earlier, I got fed up not being able to find anything about an NZ release date so caved in and downloaded it on Friday, then I found and online CD shop stating 13th October as a release date in the weekend. So I went into the main CD/DVD store today and they had it. Slightly annoying that I would only have needed to wait 3 more days but pleased to finally have it officially. Now I just need them to come here and do a show in Auckland!

Finally heard the album! Got fed up not being able to find information of an official release date here and checking the shops every day with noone having any idea so I gave up and downloaded it. I will of course buy it as soon as it becomes available here. The Oasis album coming out on Monday did take my mind off this for a few days. So here are my ratings (out of 10) from the first couple of listens: Chinese Blues - Great start and would be great live. 9 J. Smith - Didn't think much of it as a single but it just seems to work in the album in between CB and SA. 7 Something Anything - The type of song I've wanted from Travis for a years. 9 Long Way Down - Good tune and probably good live. 7.5 Broken Mirror - Probably my least favourite. Bit dull and forgettable in the sense that when the album finishes, I can't remember how it goes. 6.5 Last Words - Not out of place on The Inivisble Band. 8.5 Quite Free - Another that could have been on The Invisible Band. 8 Get Up - Like J. Smith, I didn't like it much on the EP but again, in the context of the album it works. After listening to the album on the bus to Uni, I even found this to be the one playing in my head during the day! Eyes Wide Open, the most similar song from last year's album, is better though. 7.5 Friends - Beaufitul song, bit like Closer. 9.5 Song To Self - Perfection. Closer pretty much went straight into number 2 on my all time Travis chart last year (Why Does It Always Rain On Me? will not be beaten by any song, by anyone for me) and this certainly enters the top 5 in the Travis chart. Possibly even peaking at 3 eventually. 10 Before You Were Young - Great finish. 9 Overall, it's great. It's the type of album you have to listen to all the way through and the best songs come at the end so you don't want to stop before you get to them. Of course it's not going to beat The Man Who or The Invisible Band but I'm still trying to decide whether it beats The Boy With No Name. Aside from Song To Self, TBWNN has better individual songs (Closer, My Eyes, Battleships, 3 Times And You Lose) but this one might be better as an overall album as it's solid from start to finish. For me TBWNN was some of their best stuff up to My Eyes, but the songs after were not of the same quality. Note that this all comes from 2 listens, both on the bus so I hope it's a fair enough review. :)

Resisted the leak and bought the CD/DVD version today. Well worth the wait, I love it. It's easily their best album since 'Be Here Now' in 1997. Whether it's better will take a lot more listening but I suspect it comes in just behind, which is no disgrace. Unfortunately the last 3 songs let it down overall (typically the ones not written by Noel). If those 3 had instead been 'Boy With The Blues' (released on the bonus disc which comes in the "deluxe boxset") and polished versions of the as yet unreleased 'Stop The Clocks' and 'I Wanna Live in a Dream In My Record Machine' then it would have been a up their with the first 2 albums IMO. Favourites from the first listen are 'Bag I 'The Turning' and 'I'm Outta Time.'

I have just had a look on Itunes and it is available for me to buy so surely that confirms that it has been released in this country doesn't it? So why does the major CD/DVD retailer not have it, or have any idea when they will have it? :S I'll have to look elsewhere when I get a chance this week then. Would like to have the physical copy but if I don't manage to get hold of it by the weekend I'll buy it off itunes instead of downloading illegally.

Still not in the shops here. :( I asked and they checked on the computer and said "we haven't got a date for it locally but we've heard it should be in the next couple of weeks." Think I'm going to have to cave in and download it if it's still weeks away.

Travis
Phew! According to The Man Who's Blog the NZ release date is also 29th September, so hopefully it should be in the shops tomorrow. It was 1pm midday when I went today which would have been 1am on the 29th in the UK so I was probably too early for it. They were putting other new releases on the shelves when I was there so maybe it appeared later on. The Man Who usually has the right info and that's the only place I've been able to find information about release dates around the world so should be right. Although he does give 2 different release dates for Holland! :D

Oh man. :( I was all psyched up for listening to it today/tomorrow. I'll check with the shop tomorrow but if it's still weeks away from turning up here I may have to cave in and download it. :(
