That's fucking ridiculus. If your parents love you and cherish you, they should accept you as who you are. I haven't told my dad yet, because I'm a bit nervous about it/not sure whether I should or not. I know he wouldn't be mad or anything. I'm still his son, and he said he'd love me no matter what.
