Well Chris was talking about this on there thing at Storytellers that when they were writing the song they were try to come up with the name and words for it. Chris looked over and saw a book called Yellow or it had yellow pages and that it have it is yellow. "During Coldplay's performance, which was taped in Brooklyn in May and airs June 8th, frontman Chris Martin revealed the origins of the band's career-making 2000 hit "Yellow." "Originally, it sounded like a Neil Young song," Martin said. "And it was missing a key word, so I looked to the nearest book: It was the Yellow Pages. In an alternate universe, this song could be called 'Playboy.'""
