  1. Haha yes I just caught that too :D
  2. Um that's Will singing during the chorus. I'm still praying for a full string section for the stadium concerts ;)
  3. Oooo cool news, I forgot this was happening. Good thing I work at GameStop, I'll just check out a copy of GHIII since I still have my GHII guitar :nice:
  4. Jamie nice job man! You were so chill about it I would have been freaking out... My mom passed away too when I was younger, you're a brave guy for sharing your story. And such great question! Haha and that bit at the end with you and Will was funny :nice:
  5. Hmm I kinda expected 3.5 for some reason. Don't get me wrong its got some killer stuff on it, probably my second favorite album as far as individual tracks go, but I don't think its as big as we anticipated it to be. And I'm guessing the Rolling Stone review will say something similar about their expectations. Although X&Y is clearly the most lacking of the four albums, we anticipated it just as much as Viva and we were kind of overwhelmed by the band's change in sound. The good thing is they got SO much better at working on a new way of presenting their musical style. This album turned out to be something really special in terms of finding another fresh start musically. LP5 will most likely be a combination of the enormous soaring sounds from Viva mixed with the right dose of rocking simplicity and baby making music of AROBTTH. Oh and I'm hoping Eno returns, I love his work. :D
  6. AHHH congrats man! Definitely give a shout out to all of us at Coldplaying! Wow what an opportunity... So cool!! I can't wait to hear what your question was and how they'll answer it! Good luck on air! :nice:
  7. Woaaa thats cool I'm gonna call some local stores and see if they're getting it!
  8. I'm pissed. My show got moved from Sunday July 6th to TUESDAY OCTOBER 21ST. Now I have to call off work AND drive home from the show right after it ends. I live in Cincinnati and the show is in Cleveland. Thats a 5-6 hour drive. This is absurd. Thank God this album is incredible or I would be sending my tickets back and just seeing them when they tour the 'states again next year. Everyone else just got their show pushed back a month or so and Cleveland got completely f-ed in the a-hole.
  9. Ahh thank you! I was just about to say that :nice:
  10. Haha what is this thread about again? :P
  11. HAHA this is getting absurd! Can you imagine what family dinners are like at the Martin/Paltrow household? "Strawberry pass the apple to you brother Jesus" "God damn it Jesus don't throw that apple at your big sister Apple this time..."
  12. Haha I noticed. You two need to just get a room already :P :whip:
  13. Haha dang he IS good.
  14. eFlat replied to winigwl's topic in Coldplay
Politik is such an intense song when they play it live so its definitely the best opener for a live show, particularly what they did with the 2003 tour. But LIT has the album opener vibe going for it, its pleasing to the ear and it slowly picks up pace. I dunno I love them both regardless of what I say here haha  I could never really dig Square One though. IMO the end is the best part so it doesn't really work as an opener for me...
  15. Well it just so happens that Coldplay is fantastic for coping with things :D
  16. Haha this is awesome. I almost wish Ian would post this as news and mention that justcold is a professional wizard/crystal ball gazer and he read us the future of our beloved band :D Also: "2021 Jonny does a Jazz collaboration with John Mayer and they take home some Grammys"
  17. Haha, well at least your Dolly Parton comparison was funny :nice: If this were a biological analysis of Chris Martin's DNA then his 3 years of musical studies wouldn't really come in handy here ;)
  18. Haha that Dolly picture is priceless. The argument is interesting though. I'll admit, the guitar guitar in the background of Yes does have a country twang to it because its probably being played with a slide. But clearly the goal wasn't country here, the middle-eastern string arrangement before the chorus is proof of that. Chris's vocal does have a low/burly vibe going, but he doesn't have the obnoxious country accent to go along with it in the slightest bit. So in a way, this song has country/folk routes, Jonny's electric playing is evident of that. Also note the constant tapping of what sounds like a metronome with a very interesting rhythm going on (it works with the middle-eastern strings and it works for country). Technically, Age Six is right. But I didn't notice until he mentioned it. If [instert annoying country singer here] were singing this song then they would be the icing on the cake. But obviously this is Coldplay and in my opinion this one of the most well-composed songs on the album, right along side 42. The acoustic is great and the vocal/lyrics are catchy. The violins take it a step further. And Jonny's guitar filler is brilliant. Who cares if it sounds like country or folk or acoustic rock or whatever, its Coldplay and its great music. :D
  19. Well this is rather hard. I'll name my top two on each album. Kinda generic picks but these are the songs I rock out to on a daily basis :P... Parachutes: Yellow/Shiver AROBTTH: The Scientist/Clocks X&Y: Fix You/Swallowed in the Sea VLVODAAHF: (so far) Death and All His Friends/Strawberry Swing Notable mentions: In My Place, Lovers In Japan, Til Kingdom Come, Lost?(Acoustic), Proof
  20. Thanks :D I'm hoping maybe someone includes a comparison of those two songs in a professional review. And hopefully its someone who knows Coldplay's previous material fairly well. I think that by making the finale similar to AROBTTH its a nice little treat for those of us who want the band to keep (at least) a little bit of their sound that brought them to where they are. It sure does put a smile on my face whenever I hear that last minute or so of DAAHF... :nice:
  21. Ha exactly, mixed is so much better than comparing/contrasting the albums. They're practically a half a decade apart as far as age so why not combine the two different generations of the band to make an UBER ALBUM? :wink3: And I like what you did with Amsterdam and DAAHF/Escapist, that's exactly what my brain was trying to type! I love Amsterdam, but there's just something about DAAHF. Its like Coldplay went back to Amsterdam, stole the song structure with the piano intro and the big finale, and took it one step further. The two songs are even in the same key! (Eb :P)
  22. Politik > Life In Technicolor In My Place > Cemeteries Of London GPASUYF < Lost! The Scientist = 42 Clocks > Lovers In Japan Daylight > Reign Of Love Green Eyes < Yes/CSC Warning Sign = Viva la Vida A Whisper < Violet Hill AROBTTH = Strawberry Swing Amsterdam = DAAHF/The Escapist But because these songs contrast so much when they're compared in order, if I could make a mixed album it would look something like this... (LIT synth intro) Politik In My Place Lost! The Scientist/42 Clocks Lovers In Japan/Daylight/Reign Of Love Yes/Green Eyes Viva la Vida Warning Sign Strawberry Swing AROBTTH Amsterdam/DAAHF/The Escapist
  23. ^ Hmm I wonder why its an older picture of them... Hopefully someone can grab this issue and get us some scans! :D
  24. Personally this is one of my favorite cuts. The piano delay is beautiful. The chord progression is perfect. And its right where it needs to be in the album. It makes a great bridge from Lovers to Yes. To all you ROL lovers out there, I've got your back! :D
