  1. I love both 'Reign of Love' and 'Chinese Sleep Chant'. What I seem to notice is a lot of people reviewing just individual tracks, and so I guess those two songs would not be as great as some of the songs off X&Y. But personally, the way I connect most to music is for the whole, the entirety. I like albums, played from start to finish, so I tend to think of how 'good' as song is not always as much on its complexity or skill (although that is a factor), but how it contributes to the feel or sound of the album. And I'd say these 2 songs and their production are sort of magical to me, after listening to all the songs preceding them (except 'Yes', which is a bit weak I think) and the mood that they provide. And that's always mostly what Coldplay has founded their sound on is providing a sound. And X&Y was a mess. The songs individually might be good, but what exactly was the album supposed to sound like? It's all over the place. And 'Viva La Vida' is great because you can listen to it straight through, it's very consistent and every song contributes to the overall product.
  2. Ah, I understand. I like the tones, at least they aren't as cheesy as those in X&Y. (and that's Radiohead in that signature, they're song "Bulletproof... I Wish I Was")
  3. Do you remember where you read that? That would really be amazing, very few bands actually do it that way anymore (Cloud Cult and Starflyer 59 are the only bands I can think of who release albums that often)
  4. I think LiT is plenty long... a 2 1/2 minute intrumental? If it weren't instrumental obviously it would be longer but I think it's the perfect length. I have thought though how I would like the songs to be a bit longer, mainly CoL, Violet Hill, and DaAHF, but I admire that for a band who could easily milk every idea until you're sick of the song after hearing it twice, they chose to be concise. That can be a difficult thing for a band to do (especially when they're on such a creative flow), and there's only a couple cases for me where I think a song would actually benefit from being a minute longer, which is CoL and Violet Hill (DaAHF/Escapist could definitely be longer, but I've come to like that song short and sweet as it is)
  5. It's possible considering what a songwriting streak it sounds like Chris has been on. Sure, they said there would be new album out the year after X&Y, but then again, they struggled so much to get those songs to sound like they wanted. If I remember correctly, they had to scratch to album twice and ended up recording it 3 times. On VLV they've been pumping out songs that they seem to be confident about. Remember when Bloc Party released A Weekend in the City and there were enough b-sides released at the same time of the album to make a second album? People started making tracklistings and dubbed it "Another Weekend In the City" and it was about as good as the main album. So releasing a full album of b-sides from one session and getting it to work is possible. (Amnesiac, anyone??)
  6. Sounds like mp3? What does that even mean? Mp3s can be very high quality. Maybe you should try ripping it in higher quality. At least 192 kbps, 320 if you want very high quality.
  7. Um... have you heard Yellow? Shiver? Any song off of X&Y? Those are simple pop songs to me. I know you have an opinion and I'm not trying to change it, but I don't see how coating a song in cheesy string sounds makes a song more mysterious. Viva La Vida is different in that sense, but when it comes to the melodies, harmonies, instrumentation, I think VLV is much more creative and musically stronger than any song off of X&Y. I love what they're doing. And those of you that are saying things like "It's okay, there's still hope" as if you're trying to convince yourself it's not going to be the end of the world if you don't force yourself to love all the new singles... it's not the end of the world. If you don't like it, okay, don't have a meltdown, find someone to give you a hug, listen to their old songs and find some new good music. There's an overwhelming amount of it out there if you're willing to look a bit.;)
  8. Viva la vida?? That is a terrible title. Any of the known song titles would have been 500% better.
  9. Oh, it's a joke. I get it.
  10. I forgot how much people here over think things. I am a songwriter, and when I title a song, I don't think of the way I'm feeling. I that's the way people wrote songs there would be a lot of songs out there named "Sleepy..." and "I Could Really Go For a Cheeseburger Right Now!" Usually a title either comes from the song's lyrics or just because you think it would look cool. Chris probably came up with the title "Yes!" just because he thought it seemed like a fun/interesting/cool song title, not because he was feeling excited and twitchy.
