I just might do that ;) And he was out of breath from the get go. Sounded a lot like he was backstage running a marathon and came right out to stage and tried to sing.

Coldplay =/= U2
I knew that link was coming as soon as you mentioned the beatles and U2. Youre putting to much faith in it. That guy who wrote that isnt any more special than anyone here. Coldplay is nowhere near either of those bands. And there are a boatload of bands who could easily fit into that category he puts coldplay in. Kings of Leon, for one. Muse, radiohead, etc.

Coldplay =/= U2
But my underlying point is that maybe if he acted the way he truly is he might surpass the person he's thinks he wants to be. And at this stage in their game I'd say he has the liberty to do so. All any audience truly wants is truth. You can get away with a lot more when you are completely yourself. Everyone is unique in their own way, its just that its sort of human nature to mimic what interests you. We like what we like for a reason. But once you start to act like someone else you start to become more similar to other people, and thats where trouble is. Thats one of the little games you have to overcome in life. Imagine the spectrum of personalities out there thats kept hidden by those who wish to be accepted at all costs. Its not worth it, especially when you possess a praised gift. And youre right, we are all nerds to an extent and theres certainly nothing wrong with that. The redemption is in embracing it. Nerds push mankind forward. The cool ones are that way because they know whats tried and true and are satisfied with being complacent. And regarding my previous statements, I hope no one here is misled by them. Im a coldplay fan through and through. I wouldnt be here if I werent. And though I just started posting and joined in April, Ive been lurking since before X&Y came out. I still remember when the theme changed to those colored blocks. I truly hope Viva la vida proves me wrong and that they go to a place they can call their own. The songs weve heard so far suggest that might be the case. VLV and VH are extremely catchy.

Coldplay =/= U2
Theres really no telling whats going to be on the new album because theyve been so hush hush about it. But the majority of that footage was from their recording sessions in morocco last year, that bit at the the 5:17 mark is either a Danny Lanois song or a U2 concept. Its kind of hard to discern, sounds like theres 2 things going on at once. But like I said, theres really no telling. And on top of that, those jam session songs couldve evolved into anything by now.

Coldplay =/= U2
Its going to take something crazy out of nowhere to top U2. One thing I know is that you cant do it by following in their footsteps. Its gonna take someone who intersects them. And I dont even listen to sunday bloody sunday anymore and havent for awhile. New Years Day is the real gem from that album. And I just dont see Chris Martin ever becoming as charismatic as Bono, no matter how hard he tries. He just seems so nerdy. I like the guy but I call em like I see em. And I see a forced personality, maybe to fit his idea of what it would take to be on par with Bono perhaps, I dont know. I have a feeling what we see isnt necessarily who he really is, and not in a theatrical way either. I wish he would quit trying to be the major focal point of Coldplay and just kind of be a part of the band, let us decide what the focal point is. Its not a big deal now but I can see it becoming a problem in the future. Coldplay can write some emotional, touching songs though. They really do 'get it' in that regard.

Coldplay =/= U2
The comparison between U2 and Coldplay are there for a reason. It used to be the guitar sound and now its because of the career path. You can tell Coldplay is more than inspired by them. Expect Coldplay to become a little more rootsy on Lp5 and completely change their public perception on Lp6, and thats because I dont think they will try to release a hollywood film (where Rattle and Hum was supposed to be a reserved documentary anyway until the money men had their say, resulting in a rare failure for them). Why did they have to get Eno? Of all of the talented producers out there did any of ever ask yourselves why Eno? Is it not painfully obvious, especially being Lp4? Bono sings much more passionate and powerful than Chris Martin ever will, and thats ok. If it werent for Bono you wouldnt know who Chris Martin is. How do you know Bono isnt as talented a musician as Martin? Because he doesnt play an instrument? That's laughable. I think U2 did pretty well for a bunch of 15-17 year olds starting out with no proper musical knowledge whatsoever. What U2 had, and all they had, was raw talent. They learned their craft on the fly. Speaking of Fly, a lot of people who know nothing of U2 yet feel their ignorance isnt enough to keep them from criticizing them, have a misconception of Bono because of the different personas Bono has donned over the years. Someone mentioned his acting earlier in this thread. The reason he acts that way, or acted, was to mock the 'rockstar' and kill it off. Bono didnt change, he just put on a mask. But youd have to know that to understand it. The first two albums were made by teenage kids. October is a grower and a mighty fine one at that. And listen to Drowning Man off of War if you think the material back then wasnt up to par. Coldplay is a great band, one of my favorites, but they will never surpass U2, not this way. Imitation is never greater than creation, no matter who does it. And Im not a long time U2 fan either, I actually discovered both bands around the same time. The thing that fascinates me about U2 is that you get so many drastically different flavors of the same food. All 11 albums have their own distinct perspective. U2 is a band hell bent on not repeating themselves no matter what the cost. And then you have the tours, a whole nother side of the coin....
