I Ran Away Lyrics
One, two, three...Will... I ran away from you It's all I ever do And though I started here I ran away from you I'm gonna come on in And see it through I ran away from you It's all I ever do And when I heard you calls To come back to you And though I should stay I don't have the stomach to And everyone I know Says I'm a fool to mess with you And everyone I know Says it's a stupid thing to do I have your love on call And yet my belly is so full There might be nothing left to do So I ran away from you When I come on in My eyes were closed I can feel it there The sun's so close When I come on out I'm not gonna stop A star arose, in my own cage I'm stuck in line And in a cage Just a single star I see it fall And everyone I know Says I'm a fool to mess with you And everyone I know Says it's a stupid thing to do I have your love on call And yet my belly is so full There might be nothing left to do And so I ran away from you These have got to be some of the hardest Coldplay lyrics to decipher...

**Coldplay Song Summer Madness**
Viva La Vida The Scientist Think 'Clocks' might be suffering from fatigue...there's not a man, woman or child who didn't hear that song at least 12,000 times during 2002/2003. I strongly suspect that it would perform a lot better if it hadn't become so ubiquitous. However, for me, 'Viva La Vida' is much better.

** Top 50 Coldplay Song List - Need Lists **
Do our votes have more weight if we do a top 50, rather than a top 20? Anyway, here's mine. Really wasn't too difficult... 1. Things I Don't Understand (B-Side) :D 2. See You Soon (E.P.) 3. Don't Panic (Parachutes) 4. Viva La Vida (Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends) 5. Talk (X&Y) 6. Fix You (X&Y) 7. Life In Technicolor (Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends) 8. Ladder To The Sun (Unreleased) 9. Clocks (A Rush Of Blood To The Head) 10. The Scientist (A Rush Of Blood To The Head) 11. Speed Of Sound (X&Y) 12. Lovers In Japan (Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends) 13. Yellow (Parachutes) 14. Crests Of Waves (B-Side) 15. Shiver (Parachutes) 16. I Ran Away (B-Side) 17. Only Superstition (E.P.) 18. Trouble (Parachutes) 19. Moses (Live 2003) 20. Chinese Sleep Chant (Viva La Vida And Death And All His Friends) 20. A Rush Of Blood To The Head (Live 2003 - it is better live) 21. **Coldplay Song Summer Madness**
By the way, is there going to be like a big Coldplay top 50 list or something at the end? I've kind of lost track of where a load of my favourites have gone. Is 'See You Soon' still knocking about?

**Coldplay Song Summer Madness**
Clocks v Lovers In Japan That is a hella tough match-up...I think they are both great, great songs but...the climax to 'Clocks' means it just edges out 'Lovers In Japan' for me. Politik v Viva La Vida This is a much easier match-up. Personally, I think 'Politik' is greatly over-rated. Sure the sweeping final minute/minute and a half are amazing (possible one of the best musical "moments" Coldplay have produced) but the three minutes or so before that is just turgid. Hammering away at two chords, uninspired lyrics, just really not all that good. 'Viva La Vida' is more-or-less perfect, the clear winner for me.

Shiver The Scientist There's no point people getting stressed out when the "big" singles win out - they win out because they are BETTER songs. They were picked as singles and became "big" songs because they are BETTER songs. Yeah, everyone knows 'Yellow'/'Clocks'/'The Scientist' have been played to death and most people are sick of hearing them now but it doesn't change the fact they're great songs. Liking some "alternative" album-track on a Coldplay album more than one of the "obvious" tracks doesn't make you any more of a Coldplay fan...

The "X&Y track vs. VLVODAAHF tracks" thread
Square One vs. Life in Technicolor: Life In Technicolor (some people may not appreciate LIT purely because it is an instrumental but it is simply brilliant) What If vs. Cemeteries of London: Cemeteries of London (no contest...'What If' is Coldplay-cliche after Coldplay-cliche) White Shadows vs. Lost!: White Shadows Fix You vs. 42: Fix You Talk vs. Lovers in Japan: Talk (tough, but Talk edges it) X&Y vs. Reign of Love: Reign Of Love (ROL isn't great but X&Y is terrible - it epitomises everything that was wrong with that record) Speed of Sound vs. Yes: Speed of Sound (easy...'Yes' is the worst song Coldplay have ever recorded. Fact.) A Message vs. Chinese Sleep Chant: Chinese Sleep Chant Low vs. Viva la Vida: Viva La Vida (by farrrr) The Hardest Part vs. Violet Hill: The Hardest Part (not overly keen on either but THP edges it) Swallowed in the Sea vs. Strawberry Swing: Swallowed In The Sea (Strawberry Swing is nice but oh so dull) Twisted Logic vs. Death and All His Friends: Death and All His Friends (Twisted Logic is the second worst song Coldplay have ever done. Fact.) 'til Kingdom Come vs. The Escapist: The Escapist X&Y: 6 VLV: 7 Closer than I would've thought...

The Official Opinions about the new album thread
Obviously, I've only heard these songs a few times each, but so far: Life In Technicolor - 8.5 Cemeteries Of London - 8 Lost! - 7.5 42 - 7 Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love - 9.5/8.5 Yes - 4.5 Viva La Vida - 9 Violet Hill - 5.5 Strawberry Swing - 7 Death And All His Friends - 6 As I expected, this album is almost certainly the best thing Coldplay have ever done. Even better than A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Without a doubt. If you listen to that album now, the number of weak tracks far outnumber on this album. Plus, musically, this album is LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything they've done before (except for a few moments on X&Y). This is the album X&Y should have been - this is Coldplay's Great Leap Forward.

from what i have heard of yes
Are you all listening to the same song I'm listening to? 'Yes' is truly atrocious. It sounds like a bad Beck cover-version, with Chris Martin doing an impression of Barry White...and don't even get me started on those horrendous "World Music" strings. It's like a bad version of 'Daylight'. Yeah, they're trying something (kind of) different, but so what? If it sounds as awful as this, they don't deserve to be praised just for trying! I don't want to rain on anybody's parade here because I love everything I've heard of the new album so far (aside from 'Yes') and I am 80% sure this will be their finest album yet and I can easily understand why everyone is really positive about what we've heard of Viva La Vida so far but...can we be serious... 'Yes'. Is. A. Bad. Song. :dozey:

YES
Just listened to it and it sounds pretty awful, to be honest. Obviously it's just a thirty-second clip and they're talking over it but...doesn't sound good at all. It sounds a bit like 'Daylight'...but worse...and I really dislike the "deeper" voice, it sounds forced. Will wait for the album to make a balanced judgement but, of the tracks I've heard so far (and parts of tracks) this is the first bum-note, in my opinion. Oh well, suppose there had to be at least one...

Compilation for a Friend
Firstly, I can never understand people who say they are "into Coldplay" but still haven't heard loads of their songs...they're really not difficult to find. Secondly, what are 'Gold In Them Hills' and Faultline doing on this CD? They're not even Coldplay songs! Waste of space. Other songs that need leaving off: Green Eyes (one of the worst on AROBTTH, in my opinion) What If (Coldplay at their worst and most formulaic) I agree with you about 'In My Place', I like it, but it is not a "classic"...but if you're leaving off 'Spies' because it wasn't a "hit", why are you leaving off this? And why are you including other songs that weren't hits (e.g. Green Eyes etc)? You need to add (or at least listen to); See You Soon (I second the poster above, it is one of their best songs) Don't Panic (probably my favourite on Parachutes) Things I Don't Understand (probably a better song than 90% of the songs on X&Y) Talk (this and 'Fix You' are BY FAR the best tracks on that album...the demo is even better) Aside from that, it's fine.

"Viva la Vida" Lyrics Thread
Perfecto. I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes Listened as the crowd would sing Now the old king is dead long live the king One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can't explain Once you'd gone there was never Never an honest word And that was when I ruled the world It was a wicked and wild wind Blew down the doors to let me in Shattered windows and the sound of drums People couldn’t believe what I’d become Revolutionaries wait For my head on a silver plate Just a puppet on a lonely string Oh who would ever want to be king? I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can’t explain I know St Peter won’t call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world Hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing Roman cavalry choirs are singing Be my mirror my sword and shield My missionaries in a foreign field For some reason I can’t explain I know St Peter won’t call my name Never an honest word But that was when I ruled the world
