Help Oxfam America & See Coldplay! (Volunteer Discussion Thread)
Yes, we'll be adding the Oct. 27 show in New Jersey shortly...thanks for pointing that out! And so you know, it looks like we are still short of applicants in the following cities: Cleveland, Washington DC, Philly, Atlanta, and Oklahoma City...so sign-up now! http://www.oxfamamerica.org/whatyoucando/act_now/music/concerts_2008/ Thanks to everyone at Coldplaying.com for your continued support,

Help Oxfam America & See Coldplay! (Volunteer Discussion Thread)
Hi Jesse- Good questions! Because of venue rules in certain areas of the country, we ask our volunteers to be 18+, but we'll allow volunteers under 18 if they are working in tandem with a family member who is 18+. When you fill out the application, make sure you both mention you want to work together, and that'll be taken into consideration when we make final selections. Thanks,

Hey Coldplayers- I wanted to make sure you all know that we're now taking applications for volunteers for the new Coldplay shows announced this week: Wed Oct 29 - Boston, MA - TD Banknorth Gardens Fri Oct 31 - Washington DC - Verizon Center Sat Nov 1 - Philadelphia, PA - Wachovia Center Wed Nov 5 - Altanta, GA - Phillips Arena We're also thrilled to see that some members of this board have also worked with us at recent shows by Bloc Party, Wilco, and Thao with The Get Down Stay Down...so thanks! We've also just posted the applications for many dates on the upcoming tour by red-hot indie rockers Ra Ra Riot, who have an amazing sound (including a violin and cello in the band!), if you are interested. The sign up for all the shows is: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts Thanks!

Hey Philly! Job well done! Thanks much for helping Oxfam America reach out to Coldplay fans at the Wachovia Center. And we're glad many of you got to meet Pete, Oxfam's touring staff person. In case you didn't see, Pete kept his promise and gave a nice shoutout to Coldplaying.com on Oxfam's Coldplay Tour blog: http://www.oxfamblogs.org/coldplay/ And special thanks to Jonah Delso and his band, who rocked an Oxfam America shirt on stage during their opening set. For more info on how you can help our local volunteer group, the Philadelphia Oxfam Action Corps, check their blog here.

Sure! Of course you'll be getting news and info about what Oxfam America does, but I also encourage our friends in other countries to check the sites of their local Oxfam affiliates to see how they can help in their own part of the world. Links can be found under "Take Action" at Pete's tour blog: http://www.oxfamblogs.org/coldplay/ Thanks for the question,

A big thanks to all of the members of this forum who have joined us at shows so far! And thanks to the administrators for posting our man Pete's tour blog as well! As you've read, things are going great on the tour, and we're meeting tons of new people who are anxious to join Coldplay in supporting Oxfam. If you haven't signed up to work at a show yet and would like to, the application is at http://www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts . And don't forget to sign up for our eCommunity and possibly win some pretty great autographed items from Coldplay at http://www.oxfamamerica.org/coldplay . If you happen to be going to the Philly show tonight, stop by our table and tell them you are from this board and grab one of our green Oxfam America buttons. We'd love to meet you! Thanks,

Hi Yellow745- Age requirements depend on the activity or event. If you send me a PM telling me where you live, I'll do my best to hook you up with a local Oxfam volunteer team who can let you know what events might be available to you to volunteer for. Also, sign up here to join our eCommunity, which is another way you can learn of activities available to Oxfam supporters. Thanks for the question!

The volunteers are all selected at the local level by our lead volunteers in each city, so I'm not sure if Chicago's selection process is over or not. Hope you make it in!

melanieau- The response has been pretty great so far, especially from readers of this board. On this tour, our outreach is centered on letting people know about Oxfam's missions in general and what we do. And thanks for using Oxfam Unwrapped ! yellow745- We never know where our volunteers will be seated until we actually get to the show, but as most Coldplay fans know, any seat at a Coldplay show is a great one! ------------------- We'll be adding more non-Coldplay concert opportunities in the next few days, including shows by She & Him (featuring M. Ward & Zooey Deschanel), Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, Stereolab, and more, so keep checking our sign-up page: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts Thanks, Oxfam America

Hey Coldplayers- Good questions & comments! As far as when you'll hear from us...we'll let you know either way approximately 10-14 days before the show you applied to. And to xneverwherex, we just worked at Summerstage in NYC this past Thursday, as we were invited by Thievery Corporation on their recent tour. We really did well there, but I don't think any other bands we are affiliated with will be there for the rest of the season, so that may have been our only show there this year. If you've got connections you'd like to share for that venue, shoot me a PM. I'm thrilled to see discussion about volunteering for us and other organizations! Even if you can't make it to a show with us, please try and volunteer somewhere. It's a great feeling, and usually a great time, too. Here's our sign-up page again: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts Thanks,

Hey Coldplayers- Just a quick note to thank the dozen or so people who stopped by our table at Madison Square Garden to sign up with us and who mentioned they learned about us on Coldplaying.com! I also wanted to let you know that there are still volunteers needed for upcoming shows in San Jose, Las Vegas, Chicago, and most shows from August on. Apply here: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts Our volunteers at Madison Square Garden were treated to AMAZING tickets, as we were placed by the band on the railing right next to the stage on Jonny's side during the show. Hope you can join us at a show near you! Thanks for your support,

Thanks for all the great questions! Because of local venue rules, we prefer that all volunteers are 18+. However, we'll try to accomodate 16+ if you are volunteering with a parent or guardian. Our volunteers at shows like Coldplay typically arrive about an hour before doors open, receive a brief training and update about Oxfam's current campaigns, and then circulate among fellow music fans as they enter the building to recruit new supporters to sign up for Oxfam's email lists, which allow folks to take actions from their computers. Volunteers will then get to watch the show, and as the final encore is played, the volunteers meet up again to recruit more people as the crowd leaves the show. It's actually a lot of fun, and a great way to meet other Coldplay fans and Oxfam supporters from your area, not to mention the amazing feeling most volunteers have after spending a little time helping others in need. Hope these details help. There are still spots available at many shows, and I'll try to post a list of cities not filled up yet here soon. Thanks for your support! http://www.oxfamamerica.org/concerts
