Well, I internet-detectived Laura and found her mailing address, but then I realized if I send her a postcard or letter, it will just confirm her parents' belief that the internet is a scary dangerous place. It's just so hard to be completely cut-off from a friend like this. :( I'm so sad. I hope next week she's able to check in from school or something. Fingers crossed.

Ugh, this has upset me so much I don't even think I can be here right now. :( I'll be back this weekend sometime. :sigh:

Oh for fuck's sake, I just got this from Laura's IM account: "Because I am only 14, both my parents feel that I will no longer be communicating with strangers on the internet. Sometimes I think about if I had learned dressage, and got into the olympics, and how cool it would be to do a dressage routine to a Coldplay song. ;) In fact my sister has a video of her horse on Youtube that is a PERFECT match to Chinese Sleep Chant, which I discovered on accident while working on her website. The horse has this dance-like gait, and it completely matches the rhythm of the song! Not necessarily. I have a Myst-fan chat room I've been going to since 2004. I've even met most of the chatters there in person, and dated one. ;) They're like the group of friends I can take with me no matter where I move or where I go. But yeah, if you go to Yahoo or something and click on general chat... all sorts of weirdos. :laugh3: I can't "do" that kind of chatting any more but I loved it at 15.

It's simple, really. Parachutes was short, like the song. Green Eyes was green, Yellow was Yellow. God Put a Smile Upon Your Face and Rush of Blood feel kinda dark so they're the dark ones. Speed of Sound and Clocks feel "blue" so they're both blue. Viva la Vida and Politic are orange because those songs are HOT! And Politik is the one with the bend in it. 42 had a lot of different widths of stripes which reminded me of the change of pace in the song. Fix You, I don't remember... Don't Panic was sorta short like Parachutes. Shiver and Lovers in Japan are both kind of exciting and fit the three-colored teal/black/white ones together. Glass of water is blue. Because water. :nice: Now I'm running out of ideas so Trouble, I ran Away, and The Scientist are named for the ones I have left. I later added a bunch more including Ladder to the Sun which I lost today, Amsterdam, Strawberry Swing, Lost, etc etc. I'm not as insane as I sound!! :escaping:

Her parents do have the right to monitor her internet use, but I do see it as a bit overprotective to allow IMs and email but not forums. I don't really see the difference but maybe they don't really understand how the internet works. I remember being that age and my dad would assume that every window I had open, IM, forum, what have you, was a "chat room." "WHO ARE YOU CHATTING WITH IN ALL THOSE CHAT ROOMS?" he'd say. But nonetheless he let me spend an ungodly amount of time online. And hey, I turned out okay! :uhoh:
