  1. I was hoping they would play at the Dolphin Stadium in Miami, but the Marlins play there :( Hey, they could play at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (aka The Swamp). It has capacity for 90,000 people, and it's 2 hours away from Tampa. Plus, they should since the Florida Gators are the 2008 BCS National Champions! (hahaha, I just had to mention this ) Only 10 days for Inaguration! Perhaps some tour dates announced then?
  2. Alright, I'm about to grab the bull by the horns. As I wrote to Nick, I have heard other foreigners trashing the USA because they hate/d living here. Nothing like their homelands, their countries being better, and so on. I'm sorry you don't like it here, for many reasons. But please don't be so rough and blunt to the point it offends Americans. Imagine if some foreigner living in Italy started talking or tought Italy was crap :o Not nice :( For me, this is awkard since I actually like it here more than in my homeland, that much I cannot wait to be an US citizen (2 years!) Sounds crazy to you, but my circumstances are different, as well as my reasons. Well, I'll admit New Mexico must be awful if I follow what my friend who studied at the University of Arizona for a year said about Tucson. She said it was hell, the people (rich and poor) were disgusting, etc. I'm not saying you're wrong or need to change your mind about what you think of the U.S., just try not to pass as being too bitter of living here.
  3. ^Jizo: great summary!
  4. Same here, I worked with fast food, but in a chain that is more classy than McDonald's. I agree that it does help you learn to deal with customers. There won't be any real, substantial reform until everyone realizes and agrees that families (not schools) are responsible for teens wasting their lives away. Yes, we should let it go. She touched a "hot button," an issue dear to your heart or mind, so I understand why you got mad now (I don't spent my money on crap either, not even the one given to me by the governement thru financial aid. If they give it to me to get an education, then that's what I'm doing). I applaud you for being brave and strong, as well as mature. So you are already doing what I suggested above: saving for college. Don't worry, all that effort you're doing will pay off. Don't sweat the I-don't-have-a-lot-of-money-therefore-I-cannot-attend-great-school. First, get into the great school(s). Second, fill out FAFSA and apply to scholarships, then wait for their financial aid package offering. If they really want you, you could negotatiate (e.g. Hey School A, there's school B offering more aid and School C giving me full ride, what can you top that?). Also, you could look into public "Ivies," (google this) where you get quality education but for a lower price, meaning less loan burden. I should stop now, I sound like a college counselor
  5. I guess it was time to say good-bye to my 4 year-old laptop. Of course not, I spent $575 on a newer Toshiba, which was about $300 above what I would have spent on putting a new hard drive on the old one ($220). Even if I had repaired it, I would have probably bought a new one by next year. So why not get it now, and avoid trouble this year when I need my laptop to work fine while writing my thesis? Opportunity cost...I love being an Economics major :D About U.S. education, I'll start by saying that this country has the best university/college education system in the world. There are other good universities around the world, no doubt, but USA leads when it comes to college. U.S. high school education is another story, more like what I quoted from Tracy Lynn below. Sorry Iz, he's right on this one. I don't know what you wrote to him, yet I absolutely hate, hate, hate insults, stereotyping, asumptions, labels and such. Don't be judgemental, and this goes to everyone who is reading. Clearly, I don't agree with him calling you names as he did later on. This is an excellent response. The reason it varies is that districts are in charge of education instead of the federal goverment as it happens in most countries. Districts collect property taxes to fund schools; thus, rich and middle class neighborhood would have better schools than inner-city ones where most people live barely above or in poverty. However, school is what you make of it. In most states, there are magnet schools or specialized programs within a school, dual enrollment programs (go to comm college while in high school), IB programs, or each high school will offer at least some AP classes. The trick is to find and utilize whatever resources available. True, some states or district provide more opportunites, yet it's up to the student and their parents to challenge themselves and take advantage of the options available. The same thing can be said about college. Oh, I'm sorry about that. You probably got mad with your parents, but they're know what they're doing even if it doesn;t make sense at the moment. Hopefully, if Coldplay goes to Houston, it would be on a non-schooll day or during the summer  Certainly, teens work for different reasons, not only for having money to spend on extras. College is one reason, with tuition so expensive as well as other costs such as books (incredibly expensive), residence, food, car, insurance, etc. If someone can work and save before college is way better than having to ask for big loans. I have been fortunate to receive a scholarship and financial aid, plus studying in Florida where the tuition is the lowest, so I have only worked summers. Oh, but I did work at Chick-fil-a (fast-food) on senior year of high school. It was cool and sucked at the same time :P I doubt my answers will be better than Tracy's, but at least I tried.
  6. Hi everyone! I'm lost, is this the same thread that has been going on and on lately, and refuses to die? anyway, had to buy new laptop after I was told by Geek Squad that old one had bad hard drive. 5 days without a computer was a pain, but this one is waaaaaaaaaay faster, so I'm glad :) American education? Mmmmmm... need to eat first before replying, Julie!!!! I want them to come to Houston too, I can travel there easily.
  7. I was thinking of creating a blog. I have read about how beneficial it is.
  8. Hi! There's already TWO threads about this topic: 1) http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53224 [Don't need to read it all, it's a bunch of crazy (mostly) girls making plans for a road trip and other stuff, and skip page 15 since where another member and me go terribly off-topic talking about baseball :P] 2) http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53285
  9. I know exactly what you're going thru! I got "Sophomore slump" two springs ago. I felt into this depression, which is that I'm-stuck-in-a-hole feeling you're describing. I remember spending January of 2007 crying everyday :bigcry:, I had to drop two out of five classes, get therapy, and sign up at a gym to get exercise to relax. Time heals all wounds, and that's completely true. I think I got out of it by April. Yes, at times I think it was stupid to get that depressed, and how I let myself fall into that state, BUT things happen for a reason. I have a better idea now of what I want to do with my life, and how I see life in general has changed for the better as well. A turning point was when the psychiatrist prescribed pills for the anxiety (yeah, it turns out I was depressed because of an anxiety disorder). I started taking them, but after a week I quit. My grandma has to take pills until she dies for her manic depression disorder, and I didn't want to end that way. GET HELP! And I mean professional help. Is there a psychologist at your school? Talk to your friends, parents, anyone you trust for the meantime. EXERCISE! It works wonders in releasing your stress. EAT! I remember my weight drop since all my body would accept was yogurt and fruit. I felt like I had a stomachache ALL the time. LISTEN TO MUSIC! I forget how many times I listened to The Fray's "How to Save a Life" I would also recommend Jason Mraz, a happy-go-lucky singer-songwriter whose songs put you in a great mood in a snap. And Eglantine's advice about the do-to lists is good too! I'm blessed with all those things you talk about at the beginning (likely to graduate with no debt ). Whenever I felt a bit sad, I think about how lucky I am. Oh, it stopped raining, I should go out for a walk :D
  10. ^Noooo, don't sell it!
  11. Same here :P since it is easy to share an account, I was thinking about "it" being "they" instead. EDIT: nothing against this person, I'm simply speculating.
  12. I asked the Three Wise Men to bring me US dates, and nothing :bigcry:. Not that I won't still believe in them
  13. Like Guy and Jason Mraz  BACK TO TOPIC! WORD, nothing but the truth what she has said. BUT it's your life, and your choice how you want to live it. Although I'm outgoing and chatty, I'm not a party person. I prefer going out to the movies, a bar, dancing or something more healthy and quiet. I wonder why people put themselves under such drama and risky behavior  You go to college to learn how to learn, dang it! Come to Florida, we have 11 public universities with the lowest tuition, even for those international or out-of-state students. I go to the University of South Florida, where we have a LOT of international students. Tampa has tons of good stuff (beaches, ybor city, Busch Gardens theme park, Hyde Park, Tarpon Springs, it's close to Orlando). My sister goes to University of Florida (GO GATORS for 2009football champions!!!), and it's good too.
  14. Min: nah, don't pay attention, that's a well-deserved break. Ed: !Feliz Día de Reyes! A ver si hoy anuncian unos conciertos en Estados Unidos.
  15. He's awesome LIVE! Such a great entertainer and musician. He came to my city on Dec 4, and I was lucky of finding a ticket 2 weeks before. I saw him from Row R, but since it was in a music hall, that was a good seat close enough to see how fit and hot he is :wink3::laugh1: The girls at Coldplaying are doing a good job on perveting me :D
  16. Mraz is not yummy, he's delicious :P Cannavaro, il capitano bello (somehow my Italian improves) Yes, he does  Is he NAKED!? :bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb: Forza Italia! Must move to Italy PRONTO!
  17. I enter this thread and see this!:bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb: :dead: I'm glad it's not only Lina and I who love Jason
  18. Of course, they will be interested. It's the real football, for Pete's sake! Oh, there's a MLS team for Tampa in the works. And I think the investors want to build the stadium near my house
  19. ^Bien, ya estoy más tranquila después de ir a mi primera clase. Mañana viene fuerte pero I have to face the music
  20. ^yeah, I went a bit crazy quoting
  21. Quoting time! My dad's an engineer too! :smart: Eso es muy cierto, los otros ingenieros se burlan de los Ing Industriales, dicen que es la más fácil. Yep, true that! I KNOW!!!! How is that possible????? :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: Yeah, I'm SOOOOOOOOOO happy I live close to the beaches, like 20 minutes or more, depending of which one you wanna go. Among the best in the USA! LINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! :D VIVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! :D Glass of water! *song stuck in head* :laugh1:
  22. Even I agree this statement  Let's play some ball! SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :\:(:disappointed::bigcry: Oh, I'm sorry I couldn't help laughing at this one :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3: Well, at least we forgot about Coldplay not announcing tour dates for a while. Back to insanity :bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb::bomb:
  23. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Nice! Is Lidge the one on the first pic? :wink3: I would post Longoria's pic, but I'll leave that for the "sexy fit men" thread :charming:
  24. Hey, don't blame him, everyone loves Florida :sunny: I'm sad about it, not mad. The Phillies did a good job, and I know they hadn't won anything in ages. We're a young team, which used to be the laughing stock of the MLB, but guess who's laughing now? We beat the Red freakin' Sox for the American League title! Plus, Joe Maddon won AL Manager of the Year, Evan Longoria won Hottie (oops, meant Rookie :wink3:) of the Year, and Carlos Peña won a Golden Glove. That's not bad at all :D:D:D:D:D
  25. LOL, like Miley Cyrus at Disneyland, California. Well, that would be awesome. I read that all the revenues from the tickets of her concert went to charity. Coldplay should do the same :smug:
