  1. It's like the movie "Sophie's Choice," where the Nazis force Meryl Streep to choose which of her two children can live and which has to die. In a panic, she says, "Here, take the girl," whom she is holding and and hands her over to the Germans to be killed, the girl screaming in fear. Sophie lives the rest of her life regretting that. It's hard to leave some of Coldplay's songs out of a favorites list because they all represent something precious of Coldplay. BTW, regarding my username, Starfish, I was reading the Timeline on Coldplay's website http://www.coldplay.com/timeline.php which says: 16/1/98 – The One and Only Starfish Gig – Despite only having been in the band a few days, Will organized our first gig in the Laurel Tree. Unfortunately, we had no name and in a panic chose Starfish. The gig went ok, although we played one song twice – not a good idea. JB (Click 1998, then the TV icon, then click to play the video for Coldplay's firsthand explanation in their own voices.) Interestingly, the club was filled and there was a line of people waiting down the block. They had mass appeal from their earliest days. But the timeline says that they lost a demo competition on XFM radio to another band and that they secretly admired that band's song. To me, they would have been just as great with the name Starfish! A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. That's why I picked it as my username, but I hadn't realized that they only played one gig under that name, :shocked2: so I might change my name. :\ Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  2. Strawberryfields, thanks for posting your review with many details of the concert. It reminds me that I need to do the same before time erases the memories. I hope to have my concert experience to share with everyone very soon. Thank you, again! What impresses me most is the extraordinary amount of love between Coldplay and its fans. It was a very gentle crowd and I didn't see any problems despite the fact that 23,000 people were gathered in one place. The only negative I heard about was unrelated to Coldplay -- getting out of the parking lot! Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  3. Sharing the same space with Coldplay You expressed it perfectly! Coldplay's music has inspired and uplifted me over the past year, carrying me through the hard spots of my life. Seeing them in person was a way to share their space, to feel the influence of their stars (auras) in a direct way, a very powerful and awe-inspiring experience. Living the "normal" reality will always seem bland in comparison to "sharing the same space with the band whose music makes your day brighter." Thank you for expressing that so eloquently! Speaking of auras, did you notice the halos around them during their performance of Billie Jean, with Will's being distinctive and Chris' being noticeably expansive? "The hollowist of halos is no halo at all..." Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  4. ... though the latest video of him "Strawberry Swing" does protray him as Superman!!! After seeing the show, I must agree that character does fit him! http://www.coldplay.com/videostrawberry.php Complaint: Chris' image is too small in this video. There should be more close ups, showing him as he is: larger than life. Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  5. Thinline: After listening and watching the video more, I think "42" deserves a place in the top 5. Chris' vocals are awesome, and when the fast part of the song starts, Chris gets up from the piano and begins dancing furiously to the music before he picks up his guitar for the "Well, you might be a ghost" part of the song. There was one clip that showed Chris' moves clearly, but I can't find the clip now. I will post it when I do. It is one of the best examples of Chris remarkable dancing skills and his excellent physical conditioning. I'd love to know his workout/exercise routine. A few years ago, he said he gets up at 4 AM and does the Chuck Norris workout but I think he was joking because he was on tour and he most likely would not rise at 4 AM the morning after a concert! I think he was spoofing on American culture when he said that! Starfish42 Coldplay = Love

  7. I'm glad someone caught the roadie's breakdancing. It was really cute and neat! Thanks for uploading this!
  8. I saw them on 7/13 and 7/14 and was amazed at Chris Martin's energy. He did a show two nights in a row, and on the 2nd night, he actually seemed fresher and more energetic than the first night! His voice was strong, clear, and on key in both shows. He was a fireball of energy for two hours non-stop, dancing and singing, sometimes dancing with tremendous vigor, especially at the end of 42 when he gets up from the piano and does a whirling, spastic dance all over the stage. I had never seen anything like that before in my life. The weather was hot both shows, especially in Sacramento where it had been 100+ degrees earlier in the day, and the sweat was pouring off his face. I have no idea how he does as many shows as he does and consistently puts on awesome performances. I wish I knew how he maintains his high level of vitality. If he would endorse products, which he doesn't, they would sell millions. The shows left me feeling in a daze, "Now my feet won't touch the ground." The whole experience seemed surreal.
  9. Playlist OK, here's my playlist for the 7/14 concert. I haven't started working on one for the 7/13 concert: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7278399C57085D21 It contains more than one clip for most of the songs and is missing a few of the songs in the set list, so you can skip past the duplicates and lesser quality clips. For DAAHF, I stuck in a clip from another concert. The playlist isn't complete without a good copy of this awesome last official song of the concert. Starfish42 Coldplay = Heart
  10. I'm so glad I'm not alone! I felt depressed a few days after the concerts (I went to both.) It was a little like the feeling when you have a good friend who leaves suddenly, and you know they won't be back for a few years. When I watch some of the clips, tears come to my eyes, because I remember what it was like to actually see them. Now, the whole experience seems unreal and I would like to see them again. I had to get ahold of myself because I don't like feeling sad. It's just a foible of the mind. I still can watch videos of the concert and, as you said, listen and sing along to the CD! I don't think Chris would want me to feel sad, so I will try not to. This feeling of separation reminds me of these lyrics to Strawberry Swing: People leaving all the time Inside a perfectly straight line Don't you wanna curve away It's such It's such a perfect day It's such a perfect day Now the sky could be blue I don't mind Without you it's a waste of time Could be blue I don't mind Without you it's a waste of time Could be blue, could be grey without you I'm just miles away Could be blue I don't mind Without you it's a waste of time I loved hearing Chris sing that song! I'm also with you on wanting to hear them sing more from X&Y. I was disappointed that they didn't sing "Speed of Sound," my favorite pre-Vida song. Square One is another song that would have been powerful to hear. From Vida, I would have liked them to sing "Chinese Sleep Chant" which they have sung at other concerts, and would have been awesome to hear live. It is a very invigorating song, although the lyrics say, "Sleep, satisfied." This was my first Coldplay concert. Chris Martin and Coldplay confirmed everything I had thought and felt about them. They lived up to my every expectation, and Chris is even more beautiful in person than on the screen. Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  11. Thank you! I'd like to thank you, too, for posting this and the other videos, but especially Glass of Water! I loved Chris' performance of this song and was looking for a video of it. He seemed to put a lot of his personality and heart into singing this song. I just love it. This song sounds as if it's written for his son, Moses (love that name! I think it says something about Chris' character to name him that.) I heard him say in an interview that this was his favorite Coldplay song. Also, for DAAHF. I'm completely addicted to listening to that song. It is so sweet and powerful. Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  12. Of course, not! I'm adding them to the playlist, so there are duplications. Later, I'll make one using the "best of the best!" Keep checking my playlist because I'll be adding more songs, and then make the final list. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7278399C57085D21 I just found another Youtuber who has posted a few of the missing songs, and he was right next the the B stage! I'm adding those next, but have to go out for a while so will finish it later. Thanks, all for continuing to post clips of this great concert. It brings tears to my eyes to hear them again. Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  13. Playlist This is the playlist from the concert. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7278399C57085D21 The titles in bold italics are those for which I could not find clips. Many concert-goers probably don't even know about this forum. 1. Life In Technicolor 2. Violet Hill 3. Clocks 4. In My Place 5. Yellow 6. Glass Of Water 7. Cemeteries Of London 8. 42 9. Fix You 10. 14. I think Viva La Vida has to be considered Coldplay's "magnum opus", as far as the song itself goes. It was their one and only #1 hit in the U.S., and they won 3 grammies this year for the song and the album. VLV was the song that broke through to millions of people and opened their hearts to Coldplay, including myself. But as for the performances, I think Coldpaly topped it with Lovers In Japan. Chris was just so lively and playful. Maybe the festive feeling added by the falling confetti played a part, too! I saw the video of their performance of it at Thursday's 7/16/09 concert and Chris' spontaneous expressions pushed it over the top as far as I'm concerned. Chris' subtle little smiles he gave when he sang it in Chula Vista were precious. He has endearing expressions that I love. I'll see if I can find the clip to post it here to show you what I mean. He seems very fun-loving. Here are a couple of clips from the San Diego show. Listen to how excitedly the crowd is yelling! They sound as if they are in pure ecstacy, delighted by this performance and the butterflies! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsuC7xyGRKE&feature=channel_page]YouTube - Lovers in Japan-Coldplay[/ame] and here is a short clip of the same from the front angle, check out Chris' soulful expression: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwx4bHVhC24]YouTube - Coldplay "Lovers in Japan" @ Cricket Ampitheater[/ame] Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  15. Playlist I've put together a playlist from the clips I could find on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7278399C57085D21 Thanks to everyone who uploaded their clips: ColdplayRulesTheWorld (VivaLaColdplay42), AeroplaneZero04, IndieRocker30CM, Mayapapaya, Duran492, davisneels4, greeksurfer1, and KayAndNan. I inserted a clip from a May, 2009 concert in Bristow, VA of DAAHF because I could not find a complete clip of it from Wheatland and, because it is such a powerful song, the playlist just did not seem to be complete without it. If you have uploaded any more vids of the concert, please post a reply to this thread. You can also just "share" them with me on Youtube and I'll add them to my playlist. Also, I might add a playlist of some clips from the Chula Vista concert on Thursday 7/16/09 since there were some very good videos uploaded to Youtube. Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  16. I recorded the whole show, but most of it is barely audible due to the drownout of the volume. I might try loading it into Audacity to see if it can be doctored. The whole thing is one huge file now, like over 230 Mb. Starfish42
  17. I watched the clip and didn't hear him screw up either. Nor did I see where Chris even looked back at Will to get a "dirty look" from him. I think it was just Chris' attempt to share the spotlight because he tends to grab all the attention. This is similar to the bit he did at the other two shows I saw, where he asked the audience to sing, "Oh" to Will, for some unexplained reason, except to share the stage with him. He just changed it to "I'm sorry, Will," this time. He seems to constantly call his attention to Jonny and Will and to express his love and appreciation for the other band members who otherwise tend to be neglected with everyone's attention on Chris. Notice that he hardly focuses at all on Guy because he is already recognized as a sex symbol and doesn't need the encouragement as much. The only thing he usually says about Guy is that the women come to the shows to see him. I thought the whole "Sorry Will" bit was a little exaggerated but it probably gave Will's morale a boost for Chris to give him the attention, and Chris can afford to do so. He has more than enough love from his fans to share it with the others. Starfish42
  18. Yes, I just checked again and it appears to be completely sold out. Good for Coldplay! Carson still has seats in sec. 134, which is to the right side of the stage in the lower bleachers, but the floor sections are all sold out. Starfish42
  19. I'd have to include Strawberry Swing because it was so fun and easy to dance to; I'd replace it for 42, your #4. Also, Lost deserves a place too, because it is such a great song and has such a powerful message, but not sure what other song to take out of the list. If they had played it, I would add Speed of Sound, since that is my favorite pre-Vida song and another that is very pleasing with its melody, rhythm, and for Chris' expression of excitement and purity in his performance of it.
  20. I agree, Jenjie, that blog account was excellent. I'm forwarding it to some friends of mine who went to the concert because they will enjoy it too. You said that the lights in Politik hurt your eyes. Were you in the pit? Maybe because you were closer than I. It was truly a wonderful experience to see them perform their music live. It gave me understanding of many of the songs to see them express it with the light show. To see them perform live is nothing like hearing a recording. I have two examples of this: Politik and In My Place. As for Politik, I only understood that song after seeing it at Tuesday's concert. It starts out with Chris' singing softly, "Look at us from outer space, everyone must find a place ..." like a prayer, then it gets loud with an almost angry or adamant tone with the lyrics "Open up your eyes..." with the bright white lights flashing. It was powerful. I jumped up out of my seat and began cheering to the top of my lungs. Then Chris sings softly again, and he sounds as if he is either saying a prayer or a meditation, "Give me heart and give me soul, give me peace and self-control. ... Give me real don't give me fake..." The song keeps alternating between soft lights and singing and loud singing and pounding drum beats, the white lights flashing in time to the thumping of the bass drum. In this loud part, he is saying, "Wake up! Stop being motivated by ego and by external political forces. Be a person of integrity, sincere and honest, not a political phoney." Chris Martin said it was one of his top 5 favorite Coldplay songs. He performed this at their first appearance at the 2003 Grammys, accompanied by an orchestra. I thought that was very gutsy of Chris to do that, considering it has such a blunt message and does not have one of Coldplay's catchier melodies. In contrast to the bluntness of Politik in 2003, at the 2006 Grammys, he sang "Talk" in a very playful and beautiful, childlike manner, beginning the song with an introduction showing him laughing at a pun about Jonny's about to "do his business on national television." It was so charming. In the middle of the song, he walked to the back of the auditorium and gave the signal for Jonny to play his solo, during which Chris ran back to the stage, playing the air guitar in sympathy while Jonny had his moment of glory on the stage, playing a fantastic solo. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6YF_rYfmG0&feature=PlayList&p=C2768B33BB47EC6A&index=27]YouTube - Coldplay - Talk ( Live at 48th Grammy Awards 2006)[/ame] The lights during Politik didn't hurt my eyes, but I found it very enlivening. This might be because I sat right behind the pit section, not in the pit, where it might have been hard on the eyes! All in all, I loved their performance of this song. I also had a new experience with the song "In My Place." During the refrain, "Yeaahhhh, how long must you wait for it?" I spontaneously jumped out of my seat, throwing my fist in the air, expressing my excitement for the welling emotion of that part of the song. The lights were flashing brightly while he sang that part as well. I had never been to a concert before where I felt as moved by the music as I was at Coldplay's Wheatland show. A friend of mine said that Coldplay's music sounds magical. I could not have put it better. Starfish42 Coldplay = Love
  21. Pit tix in Dallas I checked last night, and pit tickets are still available at the 7/21 Dallas, TX show. Too bad it's so far away!
  22. Your hard work and undying loyalty to Coldplay paid off! Congratulations. I'm a die-hard fan too, went to both the Shoreline and Wheatland concerts. I drove 120 miles each way for Wheatland but it was worth every mile! We had great seats and LiveNation gave us free VIP parking for filling out an online survey. Another nicety was that I had forgotten my ear plugs in the car and wanted to go get them but they were not allowing "In and out." One of the women security gave me about 5 packs of earplugs. I could not believe how good the service was there!
  23. OMG, you were so close to the stage. It looked like you were recording the screen shots, but it was really them! I look forward to seeing all of your clips. Thanks for posting!
  24. Looks like Chris at his perkiest. His voice sounds so good. How does he keep such a high energy level with back to back shows? I think it's because he's very strong, both physically and in his character, and he truly loves what he does: "Thank you all for giving us the best jobs in the world!"
