I don't know about brilliant, but I can see why people would be passionate about them. I just listened to them again, and they're emotional songs. But emotional doesn't necesarily mean brilliant, though I concede people's mileage my vary and it's cool that those songs are touching people.

Alicia Keys
I liked this album too. M only complaint is that it really doesn't cover much enw ground ... that you don't really need to own this album and "Songs in A Minor" unless you're a diehard R&B or Alicia Keys fan. If you just like pop music, you only need to own one of these albums. The similarlities are at times annoying. She uses a lot of the some lyrical devices in her song. Some of the opens are the same. A lot of the songs are structured identically. For about half the songs on "Diary ..." you can sit there and say "This songs sounds like [X song] from Songs on A Minor." However, if you take each album individually, they're both great albums. It shows a weakness in her as an artist that she is not able to develop new ways of writing songs. It's not a weakness of the album, per se.

I didn't see About Schmidt, though I heard it was good. Jack is very charming in this movie, completely endearing. The movie is centered around Keaton's character and he serves as her foil, but he does it very well, in a way that allows you to empathize with both his and her characters. Good movie.

This Damien Rice album hasn't turned out to be as hot as I thought it was going to be, though it's still very good. There are some real good songs on it (Volcano, The Blowers Daughter) and there aren't any terrible songs, but there are some songs that are somewhat non-descript and don't seem to provide anything to me, as the listener. His stuff is basically folk inspired ... you can almost hear Joni Mitchell coming through at points, but there meaningful lyrics usually associated with that genre just aren't developed in these songs. I like the album, but for now it didn't break into my top 20. I think I might relisten later, though.

Sure. Get a routine down and you're in. I'll have to take your word for it that you have it done, but I'm not into being a hard-ass. It's more about feeling the vibe than diong the time.

I really liked it. It had many moments where I laughed out loud. It's driven heavily by Dianne Keaton and Jack Nicholson, so if you don't like either of them you won't like the movie. But if you like romantic comedies and like Keaton and Nicholson you will like this movie.

I have no idea why JN went out with LFB, either. From her point of view, he's old and gross. From his point of view, she's young and gross and she probably could find some other dumb actress to hook-up with. But Jack Nicholson was really good and charming in "Something's Got to Give," though he shows more ass than I would have liked.

Wow, that's no contest, but on to a more interesting point ... ... how did everybody suddenly start to consider Liv Tyler some kind of plus-sized model. She looks fine to me. I guess the problem is that she looks normal, healthyish. She doesn't look Hollywood beautiful, and she doesn't look how she looked when she was a girl. She's beautiful. But is she Miranda Otto? Ah ... now there's a debate! The shieldmaiden or the evening star.

Oh, absolutely not. I think LFB is one of the most unattractive celebrities I can think of. And she's not much of an actress, from what I can tell. But that's what makes the picture so ... so ... interesting.

Kid A & Amnesiac
I agree with you about the higher standard, but in a way that just make it more fun. Think about the feeling you had right before you heard the first tracks from HTTT ... that kind of nervous anticipation because not only did you not know what they were going to be like, but you were kind of scared that it was going to be a let down ... ... and there just aren't any other bands which can do that to you. When Coldplay released there next album I'll get it immediately, but I'm going to expect it to be average. I expect almost all bands to be average because that's what history tells me to expect. History tells me that most bands can not consistenly make above average albums. But Radiohead has been different thus far ... and it's been great. Maybe Coldplay can get there, one day ... but their music is also going to have to become a little more daring, less formulaic, to replicate the feeling.

I'm laughing out loud at the picture, yet ... ... I'm also experiencing this acute nausea. Whoa ... this is cool.

Kid A & Amnesiac
I hate to say it, but there are many times when I agree with that ... and it's not like Amnesiac is terrible ... it's just that ... well, I'd rather listen to either of the albums which bookend it. That's all.

I just started listening to the Damien Rice album. The Blowers Daughter was such a good song! I think I'm going to have to listen to this album a couple of times tonight ... ... and then adjust the rankings :P I haven't felt this positively about an album since Jewel's first album (comparing w/i genre). Wow. And this is a debut? Wow.

we have australian idol as well! we copied you. the winner here is guy sebastian and hes actually really talented but they fucked him over by giving him crap songs to sing and made his cd really badly with no actual instruments, just synthesizer. *shudder* Oh my ... it's spreading. It's like SARS. I want to see Sudanese idol ... or Afghanistani idol ... who cares about all these wannabe Brits/Yanks/Aussies ... I wanna she something a little different. Where is sub-Saharan Pigmy Bushman Idol? That would be a little more interesting.
