The 6th Mixtape Exchange (closed for entries)
god the first draft of my mixtape is already clocking in at over an hour... I like to keep these things ~60 minutes... >.> Also the way I think of orders of songs to go in makes the whole mixtape flow a lot like my last one, which I'm not sure if I should try to change or not. I think I'll just go with the best flow in my opinion, even if it's the same as last time...

Urgh religious apologetics  You could have the "lol evidence for god's existence plz?" "lolno u give me evidence that god doesn't exist lol" argument until the end of time. >.< edit: Watched the video, I get what he's saying but there's still so little point arguing about it... you know

Another thing I dislike about him, what a hypocritical viewpoint that is. And he's a horrible representative of atheism, almost no atheists are as arrogant and irritable as he is. He's, like, a gnostic atheist, which makes me lol because almost all reasonable atheists are technically agnostic atheists, and he still spurts this crap about the possibility of aliens having put us on Earth... and he says he's a rationalist? Please. He's just a pissy guy with a bone to pick with religions. Or if he isn't (he's probably a reasonable dude who just puts on a persona) he certainly acts like one.

Religion
Ahhh, Maky, he's sooo uneducated though, he knows so little about the mechanics of evolution etc, I respect that he tries to be nonpartial and unbiased but... agh, he's just ignorant about a lot of things.
-
Religion
Yeah haha, we should trade dads sometime XD and I'm watching that Stein video, I tend to agree with Dawkins on his personal beliefs but he's just so choleric and pissy that it's just ridiculous sometimes. Seriously? He just writes books and fights theists for a living... can't believe he isn't tired of it by now!

LOL Ben Stein, I used to not mind Stein but he's genuinely a misguided fucktard, sorry. Statements like "I think religion and knowledge of God is a good thing and leads us to brotherhood and trust, while scinece leads us to killing people" just make me want to cry. And he's terribly misinformed. I have no respect for people who pretend to know lots about a subject who are as misinformed as Stein is.

Religion
Oh, yeah, okay. Good, haha. :nice: I don't think those people "deify" science, though, I just think they're really passionate about the intrinsic power of knowledge of something like the scientific method. In my opinion things like scientific endeavors are what separate people from the rest of existence, as Sagan said, "We are a way for the cosmos to know itself" -- pretty fucking powerful thing, dat. But I never saw that as "deifying" -- just... idk, not deifying, I guess. I don't think people really worship science and technology, even in a totally nonreligious sense.
-
Religion
Ugh, you don't actually believe in "worshiping science" right? I mean a lot of people are passionate about the strengths of the scientific method but even the biggest ones don't seriously come at all close to worship it, or I have yet to see anything like that. Nah, not really, he's a pretty sub-par scientist imo, all he does is go around promoting atheism and pissing theists off and talking about evolution, it's cool that you think evolution is beautiful but he should do, like, research, imo.

Religion
Same with my dad! We have a lot of friction actually, he can be a little too cynical sometimes when it comes to religion (although his cynicism is based off of good reasons to be totally honest) and he gets angry at theist politicians, and theists in general, I mean I believe in seperation of church and state really strongly but he takes it to the next level XD
-
Religion
Nah, I'm secretly Richard Dawkins, if you're a theist, you can just FUCK OFF! Dawkins is actually cool but I think he needs anger meds sometimes haha.

Religion
See, I've almost had something analogous to that, like, a religious experience, myself, but it doesn't involve a god at all, it was more of, kind of recently I guessed, I don't know how to put this but I realized how amazing and beautiful the world really is (and it really is) and got a desire to understand it as well and as fully as I could... it's the same way, I think, that people treat the concept of "God," and it gets a little fuzzy there, because some people want to understand morality as well as they can, and some people want to understand math as well as they can, and some want to understand poetry, or science, or even history, or whatever, and some people consider these things to all be aspects of a "god" -- I mean the definitions start getting incredibly fuzzy, because I think theists and non-theists alike basically think the same way, only theists apply a concept of "god" to their thoughts, and atheists just leave it at nature, or math, or history, or whatever. You know what I mean? I mean I think it's kind of the same experience, with a different name, and some people just think it's supernatural, and some people don't. Not sure if I'm making sense haha.

Religion
Yeah, just, I think I place too high a value on facts to believe in something we can't prove, just... it seems like a waste of time to me. If there is a god(s), you can't really know it/them, in my opinion... just... you can try to live the best life you can and that's honestly it.

Crest, Christianity is completely a religion. Whoever said otherwise is talking bullshit out their nipple.

I disagree, not only because of the point you made about fundamentalism, but I honestly don't think atheists are morally different from theists. Organized religion has a track record of absolutely evil things, and it seems to me, that you spend time worshipping that could be spent on making society better, or whatnot. (I realize that's cold, haha, but I don't know how else to put it)

Religion
So you believe in a cosmic-glue sort of god? and in addition to being cosmic glue, a basis-of-morals type god? Personally, I come close to believing in the cosmic-glue type god, like you, assuming I understood you correctly, just I don't consider the way nature works to be evidence for a deity; I have the same awe and respect that I've found in many religious persons for how nature works and its unbelievable complexities, etc, etc, but I've never drawn the conclusion that, "Nature is so beautiful, there must be a god" -- I just want to understand it (preferably rationally) more than we currently do, because that seems to reveal more beauty to me than simply believing in a god that runs things. To me, atheism is more aesthetically pleasing, and also gives me more comfort; I prefer to believe that I don't have the power to make others go to heaven or hell, that I'm not simply being judged by a supernatural being for my actions (I prefer to just act as well as I can in this life) -- Actually to be honest, a lot of the experiences people report having in their religion, I find in my agnostic atheism, which is interesting philosophically but I don't want to get off track. My point is, everything you can have with religion, I think you can also have with atheism; and typically atheists are more focused on things that affect society more positively, like research, and things. (Bear in mind I'm not trying to offend you, just discuss, I could totally understand if you're a bit offended atm but I don't mean to offend you...)
