Things are starting to makes sense now. The 2012 tour was all based around this "greatest hits" set list to make a mass-appealing Live DVD. Then in 2013, Comic books will start being released and we'll get more of the MX narrative in the performances. Even a few tracks from a short EP would be enough to revitalize the tour in the same way Prospekt's March did on the last. There was something so magical about seeing LITii played for the first time. We all knew this melody from Viva La Vida's opening track, and then finally there was a full song to it. This, along with a few other changes really made the 2010 performances a step up from the first shows of 2008. The 2011 Festivals were incredible, but I have this feeling that 2013 will breathe life into a whole new type of show. Just a hunch.

Wedding Bells is SUCH a good song. Work on the film/comic animation had already begun when the song was revealed in 2010, so surely Chris was in the narrative frame of mind while writing. I doubt the band really understood what Mylo Xyloto was until the final tracklisting was chosen. Not to say that Wedding Bells was in the final batch, or even about the same story… but it was definitely written alongside songs and concepts that would eventually make up MX. I'll always think of it as a strange cousin to the album.

Ever since seeing Chris' guitar during the Viva tour I've always made my instruments into ever-changing collages… all the viva stuff was so simple with all the brushstrokes that it taught me to be expressive and not take anything too seriously. Some people are so uptight about the clothes they wear and keeping their guitar in perfect condition. Once you start slapping paint on your guitar, throwing patches on a few old shirts, and strumming along with friends for fun, it becomes impossible for the music not to reflect that honest and open realization of your creative being.

Given that MX and Hurts Like Heaven are in the key of Bb, your chord selections leave me completely baffled. This sounds like a very interesting progression though, I'd love to hear a video of this!

On Mylo Xyloto, the notes are D,C,Bb, and A. On other songs, the key is sometimes different, but the pattern is always descending: whole step, whole step, then a half step. Or if you want to sing along like middle school choir, think "Mi Re Do, Ti" :):)

To me, MX is what X&Y was always trying to be. Modern, mysterious, and constantly challenging the listener to search deep within to better understand the complexity of the world around. On VIVA, Brian took the band and flipped them upside down; giving them the confidence to try anything and truly transform their sound. With MX, Coldplay wanted to do something epic on their own. Rather than trying to reinvent the reinventions of VIVA, Coldplay latched onto this futuristic narrative and threw everything they had at it. Better than Viva? Not necessarily. New? Exciting? Absolutely. Who knows what LP6 will bring us, but hopefully the band will continue to expand and push forward without retracing their steps. I will say that the current tour is a bit disappointing. Not that the band isn't INCREDIBLE live, but the authenticity of VIVA's 18th century atmosphere seems to have been replaced by a Vegas act. The lights and 'greatest hits' set lists are fun, but not mind-blowing. Imagine the band playing MX in its entirety with animation on all the screens. Imagine finally reaching UWTB, with Chris lone at the piano finishing the epic narrative…

We all know Viva La Vida experienced months and months of evolution before the band arrived at the strings/church bell arrangement. Somewhere out there, there are several demos with electric guitars and regular drums leading the song. If we heard any one of those, it would probably sound strange to everybody. My guess is this track is some strange demo from the earlier stages of MX. The vocals are probably just a rough sketch as they tried develop the track. What would be cool is if someone took this sketch and made a professional recording. Great cover opportunity out there...

I wouldn't ever underestimate the intensity of collaborating to create an album. MX is filled with so many various layers and non-traditional rock sounds that I'm sure every member of the band contributed greatly to creating that dynamic soundscape. One unique task for guy, was mixing electric bass with the synth bass on Paradise. Also, Major Minus blends timpani drums at the same pitches as the bass line, which may be hard to notice simply because of how well both fade into the backdrop. Guy may not always be in the spotlight, but it takes a lot of talent and expertise to be a solid bass player without stepping on anyone's toes. I doubt he'll be getting bored with his job anytime soon:)

Hey guys! I just got my comic from from ebay, and I'm looking forward to writing up a little review/ interpretation/predictions. I currently don't have access to a scanner, but I'm hoping to pick one up in the near future. That said, I have two questions: How do you add a "spoiler" icon to a post? What is the best way to share this content without breaking any rules of the forum?

I think it was really important for Coldplay to have an album that stood on its own, despite any other supplementary medium. If we all had the full narrative [and cartoons] to MX before hand, some of the lyrics may have appeared shallow or cheesy. Instead, we had this wall of sound and mysterious lyrics, which led to a precise focus on the themes of love, loss, oppression, hope, etc. Even if we look at MTM, "We won't see the earth again". It's clear the album was made for us. Whether the world of Silencia and its inhabitants are of any interest to the listener, we can all relate to the struggles and aspirations of each character.

I absolutely understand the conflict for users deciding whether or not to upload the comic. That said, is the biggest concern that non Coldplayers will find the scan online? I'm sure that anyone on this forum has spent quite a bit of money on Coldplay products, and will most likely be picking up a physical copy of the comic whenever possible. (Ex. Downloading the MX leak after preordering the $80 Pop-Up Album:))

With only one issue between now and March, all we can really do is dig deeper into the characters and early plot points that correlate with the album. Once it's available to purchase online, then hopefully everyone can join in on some great discussions. I'm really looking forward to better understanding MTM. I always assumed "tearing us apart" meant meant Mylo and [Fly], but there was also something mentioned recently about a species going extinct. Perhaps Major minus is trying to move an entire race to mars? Or is it just a metaphor and Mylo gets captured so the fear and tension split them up? We may not know for a while, but I'm looking forward to learning more about the government and Major Minus.

Wait, with 6 issues starting in February, does that mean we have to wait until next July before we get the final episode? Wow, thats a long time to wait and see if there's a happy ending!

That was definitely an awesome thread to read! Before this comic, interpreting MX was very similar to interpreting Viva La Vida. Both had a sense of narrative, and some structure that strung the songs together. Since it's release, Coldplayers have written about a thousand different stories explaining Mylo Xyloto–which each have their own validity. Yet not one of them is even close to the universe being revealed in these comics. With Coldplay's lyrics, they create songs that millions of people can relate to. Whether it's love, pain, struggle, or temptation, their music always reaches farther than one character or plot it could be associated with. What really excites me, is their ability to tap into these human emotions using risky and unconventional methods. In the case of Yes, It simply blows me away that they can sneak the lyrics "Lord lead me not into temptation" onto the number one selling album of 2008. It's going to be incredible to read these comics. By the time the content of U.F.O. comes up, the religious connotations will surely go through the roof. Or maybe they won't. Either way, It's going to be a fun ride:)

Basically, the strongest lyrics are: When it started we were alright But night makes a fool of us in daylight There we were dying of frustration Saying, "Lord lead me not into temptation" But it's not easy when she turns you on I see the song as a struggle with the physical temptation of [premarital] sex. It's also kind of interesting that a non openly christian band is quoting the bible.

Good point. I definitely see that there are more elements to the hypnofeed than porn alone. Regardless, using that example inside the helmet during the opening pages is still… rather peculiar. From the start, Coldplay know this comic will be read by millions of people. They could put anything in these pages. And right away we have imagery of a victim of pornography. Obviously, there's going to be a lot of content in these 6 issues. I guess I'm just impressed that the band isn't afraid to address these controversial topics. Probably for the same reasons as choosing to write a song like Yes.

Anyone else find it interesting that the Hypnofeed is pornography? In Silencia, people are just stumbling around and falling over from too much pornography. To say the least, it's a pretty unique way for the band to make a statement on modern culture and media…

I know It's annoying, but many people would appreciate a scan of the Comic. I'm sure anyone on these forums has already spent hundreds of dollars of Coldplay tickets, albums, and merchandise. We'll all buy the comic when we can, but for now SPOILERS PLEASE:) Thanks in advance!

What makes this album so cool is how the storyline is so vague that it's nearly impossible to describe each part without imposing your own experiences and ideas. I read one interpretation by a Coldplayer all about the characters getting married, cheating on one another, getting a divorce, and then later reconciling… Surely a bit of their own life was seen through the story of Mylo Xyloto, and I think that's really beautiful. Coldplay's lyrics are brilliant in that they usually describe a very specific emotional feeling, yet the words themselves remain quite vague and cryptic. By stepping away from having a strict narrative for the album, they've allowed listeners to see a bit of themselves in the story. I like to think of the quotations in the choruses of DLIBYH as the main character looking back at what his girlfriend used to always say to get him through the tough moments in life, and using that same advice to push him forward after the break up. The whole 'happy ending' is having closure and knowing someone made you a better person, rather than getting back together.
