[31-Dec-11] Coldplay to headline New Year's Eve gig, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Grammy winners will also kick off the Volvo Ocean Race, which commences on December 31 Published Sunday, November 20, 2011 This New Year Eve just got even more exciting as seven-time Grammy award-winning rock band Coldplay have been pencilled in to ring in the festivities in Abu Dhabi. The quartet also will kick-start the emirate’s historic hosting of the 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race, followed by a concert that will certainly run to a packed house if their previous capital outing is anything to go by. Presented by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), and Flash Entertainment, Coldplay will perform live on December 31 at a unique venue adjacent to the purpose-built Volvo Ocean Race Destination Village on the Corniche Breakwater. Having last played to 20,000 fans in Abu Dhabi in 2009, the British band is relishing a return to the UAE capital to play for their tens of thousands of fans from across the region and beyond. On the back of the band’s latest album “Mylo Xyloto”, which debuted at number one in 30 countries worldwide and smashed the record for the highest number of download sales in one week, ADTA is optimistic that Coldplay’s iconic status as arguably one of the biggest bands on the planet will significantly boost visitor numbers to the ‘Destination Village’. John Lickrish, Managing Director of Flash Entertainment, said in a statement: “In 2009, Coldplay stunned Abu Dhabi with a phenomenal performance that left us in awe. “They are a simply stunning live act with a global fan base of millions, rightfully hailed as one of the biggest bands on the planet. “We all know and love their catalogue of hits, but with a hot new album to perform this year, Coldplay live in Abu Dhabi is going to be one of the most memorable New Year’s Eve you’ve ever seen.” Meanwhile, the Volvo Ocean Race will run from December 31, 2011 till January 17. Said Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General, ADTA: “We promised a destination hosting like no other when we began our Volvo Ocean Race campaign and the confirmation of Coldplay’s New Year’s Eve concert signals our intention to live up to that commitment. “With customised travel packages for both the concert and race, we are confident that Abu Dhabi will again raise the bar as a destination of distinction for international sporting events.” Full details on the show will be announced shortly, including ticket prices, times, and race arena details. http://www.emirates247.com/entertainment/coldplay-to-headline-new-year-s-eve-gig-in-abu-dhabi-2011-11-20-1.429164

[17-Nov-2011] Coldplay et. al @ Children In Need concert, MEN Arena, Manchester, UK (Live on BBC1)
- Gwyneth...
The Beijing party in the city’s hip 798 art zone may have been in honor of Coach’s 70 anniversary, but the real star of the show was Gwyneth Paltrow’s ability to belt out hits. Taking the stage midway through a lavish dinner, Paltrow sang three songs accompanied by a three-piece band, ending with Cee Lo Green’s “Forget You.” The party, which featured an Italian feast for several hundred guests, was held at the Iberia Center for Contemporary Arts, part of the city’s rapidly growing region for artists, designer boutiques, and cafes. Paltrow wore a one-shouldered, skin-tight mini dress designed by Stella McCartney, and sat near one of China’s well known celebrities: Bao Bao Wan, the jewelry designer and granddaughter of Wan Li, one of the country’s former vice premiers. Guests included several of the artists who created photographic displays for the Coach exhibit, including filmmaker Steven Sebring, best known for his documentary on rocker Patti Smith, “The Dream of Life.” For the Coach exhibit, Sebring said he shot his film of a young woman running through the streets of New York City with a large Coach bag flung over her shoulder on a 16 millimeter camera in just three hours. Sebring commented on the “energy” of Beijing but admitted he was put off by the air pollution. When he landed at the airport, he asked a woman accompanying him, “What is that smell?” The dinner, created by chef and Paltrow friend Mario Batali — who was not in Beijing — included fried zucchini blossoms, butternut squash tortellini, short ribs in barolo, and a ricotta pudding cake. http://www.wwd.com/eye/parties/coach-gets-arty-in-beijing-5377128- Coldplay feature in new O2 ad campaign

INTERNATIONAL chart toppers Coldplay were so impressed by innovative light show technology being produced by a Honiton business that the band bought part of the company. RB Concepts, which has a registered office in Offwell, teamed up with Coldplay after developing interactive LED light wristbands, which allow audiences to become part of a show. Entrepreneurs Clive Banks and Jason Regler approached the band to see if they would be interested in using the wristbands, Mr Banks told the Midweek Herald that the band not only became the company’s partners in the project but also bought part of the company. He said: “It is huge to be working with Coldplay.” The company approached the band, who said they would like to try the wristbands out during the launch of their latest album, Mylo Xyloto, in Madrid . The LED wristbands were handed out to members of the crowd at last week’s live event and lit up during the band’s first song as part of a world ‘first’ interactive experience. “It was a huge challenge to design, manufacture and deliver 17,000 wristbands at very short notice, but we are now working with the hottest act on the planet,” said Mr Banks. The new technology aims to increase audience participation at live events. He said: “The big thing is audience participation and this means bands can relate more to the audience. “It means there is a lot more audience participation, as opposed to it being static.” RB Concepts has high hopes for the technology in the future and Mr Banks says the wristbands could even be used at the Olympics. Coldplay is believed to be keen to use the wristbands at the forthcoming European Music Awards in Belfast. “The next move would be to have the wristbands at sporting events and night time events,” says Mr Banks. “We are also looking towards using it at the Olympics.” Coldplay will be unveiling something even more innovative when they begin their European tour next month. http://www.midweekherald.co.uk/news/coldplay_buys_part_of_east_devon_technology_business_1_1115222- If you were to recommend 5 songs to a person whos never listened to coldplay what would you recommen
