This is interesting.
 Where to get those rehearsal recordings? Care to share in exchange for some lossless instrumentals? ;)

~*~ The Official Will Champion Appreciation Thread ~*~
I'm really unsure  Harder to tell than with Coldplay where it's much more obvious. A click track doesn't imply backing tracks though, so it might just be more convenient to The Racing Rats to a click track for a different reason. I think I have an interpretation for the [instrument] [arrow] [band member] though (which might've already been obvious to you): I think "perc ↑ Ed" means "Ed needs the percussion turned up in his monitors during this song". Anyway, we're straying a bit far from Will Champion I guess :p and I should get cooking for tonight.

I looked up some videos and tried to maybe associate the use of backing tracks in with songs where it says CK, but it's hard to even tell if they use any backing tracks. Do you know if they play 100% live? I'm not really familiar with Editors so I can't speak with as much confidence about them than about Coldplay, whose performances I've listened to for hours upon hours. I can say one thing for sure though: YouTube will be recommending me a lot of Editors videos for the foreseeable future :p

I've no idea, can't find anything from a quick Google search, but could very well be. Might be an abbreviated as CLicK track of CLick tracK. Could be that it's not a common abbreviation, just one that particular band uses. Could you share a pic of the setlist?

~*~ The Official Will Champion Appreciation Thread ~*~
Alright, I'll do it tomorrow. It's the show of 11 February 2009 in Japan. Pretty nice setlist. Edit: Here you go! While re-listening I discovered something else about that recording, which I wrote a bit about in the thread.

Thanks for sharing! What a fascinating talk. Even just the fact that he did something like this surprised me. The backing tracks make me a bit sad as well, but even though Will didn't reveal their tracking practises in all of their glory I was surprised how open and honest he was about it. About the shaker/tambourine in The Scientist: I just checked and it's also audible in other performances, such as the 2006 Toronto film (How We Saw the World) and Live 2003 (more clearly in the soundboard recording of one of the shows Live 2003 was born from). So I'm pretty sure it's just a normal part of the song – back then anyway, maybe not anymore – but that it was particularly loud in Glastonbury 2005. I'd heard their click track before, actually. I have a bootleg recording of an entire show with the click track included; pretty interesting :) I could upload it if you or someone else wants to hear it.

Performing "Fly On" AMA
Wow, then you were really lucky that Chris played it recently, so that he had the lyrics fresh in his mind! It’s a beautiful song indeed.

Performing "Fly On" AMA
Very well done. Aside from rhythm issues due to the delay – I can't even imagine how difficult that is – I must say you played better than Chris did the other night :) Chris also seemed to sing better this time, maybe because he didn't have to play the piano at the same time. What I'm wondering is: how did you choose a song for your sign? Any other songs you considered? I assume the fact that Fly On was played two shows prior had an influence on your choice; I'd think a sign requesting Gravity wouldn't have worked just as well ;)

(Request) iTunes festival Coldplay 2011 video
Hi, I only just now saw your request. I uploaded it for you. Great show; it was the first Coldplay show I watched (on the livestream), and I remember instantly liking the Mylo Xyloto songs, which weren't released yet. Us Against the World is really beautiful on this. And of course it also has the only live performance of Moving to Mars. I uploaded the video-on-demand which was made available on iTunes a bit before the release of Mylo Xyloto. It has quite a low video resolution, but as far as I know it's the best audio quality available. Just to make prevent it getting taken down, I put it in a password-encrypted ZIP-file, with password moving2Mars. If that gives any trouble let me know and I'll reupload it. Enjoy! https://mega.nz/#!XsEA1SxB!xuXlKE-kS4k37bqYo4TLRRcvbbWv7jGlHZYZO3X1q5o

Kaleidoscope EP
I'm usually very reluctant to skip any song when listening through an album. But while I like most of the new EP, I really dislike this version of Something Just Like This. So I'll probably skip it most of the time. As others have pointed out, it disrupts the flow of the EP in an unpleasant way. As others have pointed out, the audience is too loud in the mix. Also it just sounds bad—it lacks the clarity of the studio version and it also lacks the punch and the energy of the live version. It's the worst of both worlds. The fact that there's multiple Chris's singing, layered on top of each other, is annoying and doesn't make it sound better in my opinion. And if you look up an audience-filmed video of the Tokyo performance of the song, you'll notice that the "Tokyo remix" doesn't originate from there at all. (At least not the vocals.) To end on a positive note, I like that they resurrected a song from so many years ago. Such a good song, sitting on the shelf for such a long time. And it's interesting that the version on YouTube is different from the one on the EP—probably some last-minute changes were made, too late to incorporate into the video. Even though they had 8 years to finish it

Kaleidoscope EP
I didn't realise this gig happened until a few days ago. (Haven't seen it mentioned on this forum.) Some of the songs caught my attention, Something Just Like This in particular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=5iV0Di5bH0o;t=26 Note that the backing track isn't the regular version, but sounds very much like the live one—most notably the acoustic drums! Very interesting that they have this version recorded. Some adaptation of that recording may very well end up on Kaleidoscope EP, I think. We'll see. Though off-topic for this thread but related to the post (sorry, I'll put it in a spoiler here)

Kaleidoscope EP
iTunes lists the song as Hypnotised (EP Mix), so that seems to imply it'll be a version different from the one we know.

[2017-6-8] Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Lyon, France
The link I posted above has it in full, it's from a Periscope stream though so the quality is far from optimal. It's weird how nobody has uploaded the whole thing yet, despite a stadium filled with so many people. https://www.pscp.tv/w/1MYGNApNmLOKw?t=96 That's not the beginning of Birds, by the way :)

Yeah I was secretly hoping it would change but I knew it wasn't gonna happen. Will on Don't Panic was cool though.

Judging by the videos so far (this one in particular) I'm liking what they did to Something Just Like this, compared to last time. The performance at the Brits was more or less just the track being played back; even vocals only partly live. This new one seems to be much more live-oriented: for instance, live drums a lot more pronounced than last time; and as far as I can tell, the vocals were fully live tonight.

[2016-11-11] Coldplay To Perform At The London Palladium
Oh right, this isn't the BBC :p

[2016-11-11] Coldplay To Perform At The London Palladium
Sure we are, but I suspect Chris said a word that the BBC didn't like. They're quite sensitive to "inappropriate language".

Yeah, seems like they cut out a fuck-up.

You don't have to; the lip synching in Up&Up seems to be mostly abandoned for now, as I said. I posted about it before, but hadn't yet posted a list of all the exact dates. Recently, only the live stream of the 20th wasn't fully live, and I decided to post about it because I it was so weird, switching it up multiple times throughout the song. The people at the concert itself, though, did get to hear the live vocals as usual. It's not my intention to spoil the fun for anyone, I hope it doesn't come across that way. I'm just interested in this sort of stuff (as the title of the thread implies), and I'm continuing to share my findings here because some others seem to be as well. Please don't let this get in the way of your enjoyment of the shows. We just have to face the truth that Coldplay is willing to do this in order to keep the production quality of the show as high as possible, and to keep the tour going without Chris's voice falling apart in the long run.

This is interesting.
So for the concert of 20 August in LA, the live audience got live lead vocals on Up&Up, except for the "oh-oh-ohs" at the end (as usual). The live stream however, had some funky stuff going on. It started out with the taped vocals we know and love (see post above), even though the live vocals were still faintly audible. This is especially noticeable when Chris screws up the lyrics at how can people suffer ... break your heart. Then, on from yes I want to grow yes I want to feel, the stream transitions to the live track for a bit. Then, during the bridge (and you can say what is, or fight for it ...) Chris appears to be confused what he's supposed to be singing at that moment. He picks up again at close your mind, but at that point the live track is has already been muted again, and the tape slowly fades in. After the guitar solo, it's live again, until the oh-oh-ohs. Weird, innit?

Here's an update for Up&Up. Between 23 June and 16 July, its lead vocals weren't always live. I kept track when it was and when it wasn't. They seem to have stopped it since 17 July, except for one weird instance which I'll detail later. Also, when I say the vocals were live, that excludes the "oh-oh-ohs" near the end, which usually aren't. live = :wings: not live = :whip: :whip: Amsterdam 23 June: :whip: Amsterdam 24 June: :wings: Glastonbury 26 June: :wings: Kensington Palace 28 June: / youtube :whip: Berlin 29 June: youtube :wings: Hamburg 1 July: youtube :whip: Stockholm 3 July: :wings: Copenhagen 5 July: :wings: Copenhagen 6 July: :whip: New Jersey 16 July: :wings: New Jersey 17 July:
