  1. aw thanks man. glad you like it. i don't think its easy to tell whether a recording is decent or complete crap until someone either says its decent or its crap haha. i only hear mistakes if i listen to myself doing music
  2. If I change the key of a song it's almost always so I can sing it easier. I'm really not a singer, or haven't been for long, so I'm always comfortable with lower keys generally.
  3. This one was requested. I was glad because I love the song. At that last second i worked out what I imagine is the actual tuning used. The original song is in the key of Amaj roughly. The chords are at least. Chris Martin chooses some interesting notes vocally on occasion in the song. I played this cover a full step down in Gmaj. But that aside, if I were playing the original key, I had been playing it in standard tuning and just let the B and high E ring open the whole time. But it occurred to me to tune the second string up a full step. It makes all the chords much more colorful in coldplayish voicings (6/9 chords, min9 chords etc.) Cheers, Charlie (maybe someone can help my intellectually disabled self embed the video :) )
  4. Thank you for successfully embedding that. Violet Hill....I think it's #8 on Viva la Vida. haha. that one's vocally challenging don't you think? that would be quite ambitious of me from a singing standpoint. I think the next one i'm gonna give a shot is "I ran away." I wanna sing that in the direction of a girl anyway and I also really like it. we'll see... :)
  5. Here's this from last night. I watched the 2003 Grammys performance of Politik and got inspired to just GO FOR IT. A Rush of Blood to the Head with enthusiasm! https://youtu.be/RMt8uFQMOi0 How the hell do you embed a video. Somethings...I don't think i'll ever get.
  6. question: do you guys like the stripped down bare bones acoustic guitar + vocal approach or a more elaborate production for a cover?
  7. i do love that song. i wish he finished the lyrics to the second verse. seems like he kind of threw in the towel on them
  8. thank you so much man. i'm gonna get a big head over hear. the last thing on earth i need haha. here's a link to the AROBTTH cover https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/a-rush-of-blood
  9. thank you for the compliment on my falsetto. I am absolutely positive the reason i feel comfortable singing in falsetto is because of singing along with coldplay in the car for all these years. haha. it's true
  10. humans are innately good at mimicking sounds we hear vocally. a lot of good vocal instructors are good because they employ a kind of demonstrate/then student mimics. the problem is that we don't hear ourselves as we actually sound. this is because the sound from our own voice reaches our ears primarily through our own skull rather than air. we hear ourselves as sounding more bass heavy than we sound to others.
  11. i bet you could be a fine singer man. i don't really consider myself a singer to be honest. i find it difficult and somewhat stressful. probably the single biggest thing that has helped me improve at all is simply recording myself and hearing what i sound like and then adjusting. i've taken some lessons but i'll never be anything approaching classically trained. i only try to produce a sound that i think might be good. and honestly it usually isn't
  12. Sherry: I missed this somehow. I love it. Yeah i'd probably end up adjusting some phrasing here or there but i really like it. I'm gonna give it a try. Could end up being the worst thing ever but if that's the worst that could happen, i think we're gonna be ok
  13. wow thank you so much guys, this is really very nice of you all. means the world. It's funny, I had never remotely appreciated this song until Arjav requested me to play it. So i had a few listens of Parachutes and was like, GOOD GOD this song is beautiful, how did i miss this? I did a recording of A Rush of Blood to the Head last night. I think it freaked my dad out because the lyrics are quite heavy. But it came out kind of ok, a bit haunting. Coldplay's success is a testament to amazing songwriting. The performance of the band and everything is almost secondary to how timeless and expertly crafted their songs are.
  14. how would a person find a "toy" instrument. oh, btw, i think i have a cool groove worked out you might like for your song
  15. I like the title. It has energy
  16. yeah, put up some lyrics! That would definitely get the ball rolling for me
  17. Might not quite be done with this yet. But I'm liking how it sounds so far. works remarkably well on an acoustic guitar. Tuning is E-A-D-G-B-D# this version is down a full step. but the basic chords are Gmin-D#min-C#min, Gmin-Bmaj-D#min-C#min9 and then Gmin-Emaj7-Bmaj-D#min. Cheers, Charlie https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/white-shadows
  18. Ok man. Here it is. I played along with their live "at e-work" on the cd. i can tell you the bpm is not 108. more like 75 or 74. You can download the guitar from this soundcloud link. cheers man. I doubled the guitar part and panned one take a little left and the other take a little right. shouldn't have any phase problems but it gets you a nice wide stereo image. There is likely an imperfection or a few, but I couldn't do this until it was perfect, i think it should work for you just fine. take care man. Charlie https://soundcloud.com/cedmo013/oceans-acoustic-guitar Let me know if it works out for you. this took ya know..at least half an hour to record then mix, and i changed the strings on my guitar as well to give you something nice sounding. be good
  19. You still need this? I can do it in the next hour or so. I'll just play along with the album track itself, although i know they did a live take so it isn't neatly on the "grid"
  20. yeah thanks. Chris Martin came up with some ingenious tunings in the parachutes days. i've always been curious if someone in particular showed him or if he just experimented in that realm on his own. that yellow tuning, man...it's gorgeous.
  21. I'll get to this either later tonight or tomorrow. Got too much going on today. Cheers
  22. Obviously what I'd pass along is he isolated guitar. But just wondering about a guide track. I'll see how 108 seems to feel
  23. So should I play along with the album track or...is the album track close to 108?
  24. Hey guys. Here's a cover i recently did of Help is Round the Corner. Tuning for the guitar is (from low to high) Db-Ab-Db-Gb-Db-F. I did this version down a semitone so it was C-G-C-F-C-E. If anyone wants any help with the chords i can post them. Actually, here they are. Verse. (low string to high) (Db maj)0-0-0-2-0-0 to (Db6) 0-0-4-4-0-0 transition chord to chorus- 4-0-4-4-0-0 Chorus Gbmaj7 5-5-5-4-0-0 to Eb9 2-2-2-1-0-0 and the additional chord is Ab6add11 7-7-7-6-0-0 Here's what it looks like. Cheers, Charlie https://youtu.be/sKD-q-qnvf4 https://youtu.be/sKD-q-qnvf4
  25. just let me know a BPM i guess, and if you want the key the same or different than the song. i'd be fine with that.
