Everyday life - the track - Sunset
There's another part of the song, at the 2:35 mark, where he says "brother not my enemy" It sounds like it's about to foray into a beautiful pre-chorus or early bridge. This gorgeous choral part comes in, then just ends two seconds later and we're back in the chorus haha. It's kinda like a 75% finished song.

Yep, we all seem to be on the same page there haha. Either something is missing and they're with-holding it on purpose, or they missed the mark with that ending. Must say, that performance was lovely though with just the 4 of them. Very raw, reaching back a little.

Thought about that... The song limit seems set in stone though. Unless it can be changed somehow?

It's actually building dynamically, and then Chris just kinda shuts it off haha. I don't know if this is supposed to be an artistic thing oooorr?

This is gonna sound weird, but I love hearing imperfections in live performances. Makes it human and raw. If I wanted a carbon copy of the record, i'd stay at home and listen to it haha.

Just remember, Orphans was a track that came late in the process. Wasn't even supposed to make it onto the album.

Everyday life - the track - Sunset
Have to agree, after a few listens. I feel like this song could have been a huge 5 and a half minute long tear jerker, particularly at the end... It definitely feels like it's building towards something and doesn't quite get there. Must admit though, that string arrangement is gorgeous, and I really like that there's no big introduction of drums. We're yet to listen to the album so it may make a lot more sense in the scheme of it.

Apparently, according to SNL audience attendees, the two songs the boys are playing tonight are Orphans and Everyday Life.

Perhaps i'm waaaayyyyy behind on this, so my apologies in advance.... But did we ever figure out the significance of the number 42?

The fact that Guy said they're not going to tour this album is one of the more promising things to me. It's sounding like this new release is a stand-alone piece that the band really wanted (perhaps needed) to make, with songs that are not "stadium friendly". Kinda like Ghost Stories. I support it.

I think there will be at least 3 interludes. I'm also pretty much convinced that one of them is an intro, which will no doubt be Sunrise.

Just had a thought about "Flags", from the Japanese extended release. Chris said in the interview with Annie Mac that Orphans came in reeeeally late in the process, like the last day or two of studio time. Seems likely that Flags was one of the original tracks that made it to the double album, and Orphans came in late and shafted it. Kinda like Up In Flames from MX.

I have a bit of a theory that the opening track, "Sunrise", might actually be an instrumental intro. Kinda like Mylo Xyloto and Life in Technicolour. I also have a feeling that first promo video we got with the 15 second sound bite (22 November, 1919) might actually be Sunrise. Sounds like an album opener to me.

It's not much.... But in this video, which was released in early 2016, you can see the Arabic writing of "Peace and Love" on the wall in their live space. It's obvious Everyday Life has been in the making for some time... You'll see it at the 4:13 mark. You might have to shift the camera around a little as it's a 360 video.

cp3176 !! The link below is the first video of a 3 part series where Jacob explains his thoughts on harmony, the overtone series and other theoretical aspects of music. It's really well edited (shows diagrams of the scales he's singing, as well as playing it on piano to support it) and you can see Jacob singing a multitude of scales in various keys, from memory, perfectly on pitch. It's quite remarkable. It's not just his sheer understanding, the guy is CREATING and REVOLUTIONISING: Here is a video of him explaining and using his vocal harmoniser too:

Absolutely no doubt there are at least 2 interludes on this double album, give the total length. I'm gonna say Daddy is one of them.

I'd love to see Coldplay work with guys like James Blake and Bon Iver as well. Can see some magic being birthed from that collaboration.

Jacob also created a vocal-harmonizer with Bloomberg. Basically he sings into a mic which runs through a keyboard, and every note he plays on the keyboard is an extra note added to the harmony he's singing. He built this thing from nothing. Maybe it'll make an appearance on Everyday Life? Check out his cover of Blackbird. He uses it masterfully. Just on the Coldplay collaboration, he spoke about bringing that "church sound". I can only assume he's talking about Gospel-style harmonies and jazzy 7th chords. God this album can't come soon enough.

Just want to echo the words of EasySuperstition up there. For those who don't know Jacob Collier, and I don't say this lightly, he's basically this generation's Mozart. I cannot express enough to you all how much of a genuine, in every sense of the word, genius he is. His knowledge of music is unparalleled, his grasp on harmony is unlike anything I've ever seen, and he knows every scale, in every key, in every mode that has ever existed.... And he can just sing it/play it straight up like it's nothing. I went to see him at the Sydney Opera House a few weeks ago and it is by far the best gig I've ever seen. I'm still processing it. This things that he can do is beyond comprehension. He's not only a multi-instrumentalist, he's a master of all instruments and a truly remarkable composer. I realise I sound like I'm on his PR team hahaha, but trust me, Jacob working on Everyday Life could not be better news. I am now at full, 100% hype.

I thought about this originally. Thought I was onto something haha. Has to be a single though. The album is out in less than a month.

To be honest with you, after hearing these snippets.... If Orphans and/or Arabesque are the new singles, and are the most "poppy" of all songs on the double album... Then we're in for something special. I got veeeerrry wordly vibes from them. Although to be fair, A Sky Full of Stars was a late single from GS after the album was released. So perhaps i'm wrong.
