dontpanic65
in most of the new material there seems to be a recurring theme of space and the ocean. any ideas on the significance of this, if any? i've been thinking that these references are intentional, and are a play on the idea of X&Y. space is kind of the polar opposite of the sea, like X and Y. Also, Chris said X&Y is a cooler way of saying ying and yang, or hope and despair. well, they both make up a sort of symbolic ying and yang if you think about it; the space being above us, and the sea below us. space could represent hope, because we look to the sky or horizon when we're thinking about our future and having hope or whatever. the sea could represent despair because people can get lost in the sea, thus the title 'Swallowed In The Sea'. or maybe they're just cool things to write lyrics about. Jan
Crest of Waves is also about sea and stuff, so I think he just find it a cool thing to write lyrics about.
Eagle131
I get it. I think I do. The album art might resemble how everything's differet! The blue at the bottom represents the sea, the black at the top represents space. No to find out the other meanings....

Martin04
what songs discuss the sea or space? square one, speed of sound, swallowed in the sea, anything else?? I think there are too many space metaphors
Abstract
Maybe he's not a very good song writer. I like how I can relate to a lot of his songs, but he has run out of metaphors and such. ;) Very Jack Johnson-ish. That man will be writing about the oceans and waves and the stars on his 11th album. :p
