Who is playing the spoons on Low??

Featured Replies

Please someone. Where is the definitive answer to this quandry. I still think it is percussion of some fashion and NOT I repeat NOT synths.

i know what they are!!! they are hand bells i just remembered! i played them for awhile and you can make those sounds  gah i should have clicked on that earlier

Are you sure Jackie. It's not that I don't believe you, I just want to know for sure :)

haha owen knew it all along too.. but thats soo what that is, i'm like 99% sure you just play them backwards to get the muted sound and you can actually easily hold two in one hand and frequently do hold two notes so thats why it sound the way it does

Sounds legit to me. Thanks Jackie. I'm glad you weighed in with the hand bells. Now the only question is who was playing them??

I say Will for he is the drummer and on the mtv live show he provided that percussion lick on the cymbals so nicely :)

i'd say will or guy, cause on that mtv thing it showed him at a keyboard a couple times so i think they are taking up more roles as filling in for all the added instruments and sounds, since chris and johnny have their hands full, but i'd put more money on will

Right on. I really dug Will at the keys during that show. Really nice stuff.

oh but it kinda sucks, because on all the live versions of low so far they haven't had the handbells have they, that means it's too hard to add them in :( thats too bad, makes it sound more fun. i hope they figure out a way to juggle it in there

No handbells on live Low  That sucks. They need to put that in there!! I haven't heard any other live Lows other than the MTV performance. Atleast there, Will does a similar sequence.

well i dont remember on that mtv gig, i dont' know if i saw the regular one i got one from online i don't have mtv at home, ugh. but from the recording at coachella you can't hear them, i can't tell if they were played or not, they could have been there but not the greatest recording and maybe trying so hard now to listen that i'm imaging it

Well, looks like we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully they'll dish out Low on tour and I hope they play that sequence. It absolutely adds magic to the song.

the studio version will never sound like the live versions......... I still say they are spoons... :P

yes but they shouldn't leave out instruments in live versions rather than in studio, thats what i was curious about, what struck me as such a drastic difference between that live recording and the studio, but i think the live recording was just shite :/

the studio version will never sound like the live versions......... I still say they are spoons... :P

Hence why their studio work will always outshine their live work. With many bands it is the other way around.

oh hey last night when they played low they didn't play any handbells, sorry colduser i listened really hard too, there was kinda noise but it just might have been guitar riffs to make up for it, i'm not sure what a synth would sound like singled out, so i wouldn't feel entitled to say thats what it was. but no bells it felt more empty at that 2:16 point than on the studio version :( so i guess no handbells live

It makes the song for me too, i love that section

Thanks jackie for letting me know :) I still can't believe we don't have an official answer regarding this situation with the spoons :/
