The History of "Talk"

Featured Replies

I know that the version of "Talk" that is on the album is not the original version of the song and that an early version of this song was leeked earlier on the internet. Does anybody know the story of how this song was leeked (by whom)?

I heard talk on my local radio station, and I believe it was the only station that played it. That's what I know

I liked the old version of Talk much better than the one they put on the album.

Right as do I, but that doesn't answer his question. ;)

Under the great North Star, Try to work out "who" you are~ :D

my brother says it was purposly leaked. because in a magazine (before the album came out) it had a question to win tickets to see them i think, and it asked where they got the riff of talk from. how were people to know?

well i think it said on the official site, but who knows.

In the silence of the sea, I don't know where I'll be

I remember reading that it leaked in January and there was talk of releasing it as the first single, which apparently frightened the band into reconstructing it.

there were descriptions of a few X&Y tracks released in british magazines that mentioned that 'talk' sampled kraftwork's 'computer love' before the song was ever leaked.

i know this because i remember reading the description and going and downloading 'computer love' to hear what might be sampled before i ever had the leaked 'talk' to listen to.

as for the history of the song...i can't remember what interview...but it was a recent one that mentioned that the track 'talk' was giving the band a lot of grief. they had finished a couple of different versions of it...some slower, some faster -- but always felt it wasn't right.

i would guess that had that version of 'talk' had not been leaked it would have made it's way onto the album. i bet you they changed it for the sake of keeping their new sound a secret.

the band told in several interview that they used Krafterwerk's "computer love" riff, that's it

The spanish Rolling Stone of this month includes an interview to Coldplay, and on "Talk" they said this (Excuse the horrible translation, but I still do not speak very well English :embarrased:. I would be grateful that you were saying to me if I say something very badly  :D ):

I could not have listened to it very much, but it seems that "X&Y" sounds very seemed to "To Rush of Blood …"

Jon: “There are two things always present in Coldplay: emotion and melody. Everything diminishes to it. When we have tried to do music without feelings, we have not liked it, we have tried to be cool and it has not worked, it did not have soul”.

Chris: ”Look, for example Kraftwerk: the people associate them only with electronics sounds, coolly. But there is many emotion in his music”.

Because of it have you inspired by his song "Computer Love" for "Talk"?

Chris: “Yes, we wanted play it with a guitar to demonstrate it, the feelings that exist in Kraftwerk. The truth is that it has been destroyed. We were on the verge of not including it on the album. We are very paranoiacs, and someone of EMI said to us in Christmas that it should be single. So we put us very nervous, and change it complete. We are afraid to choose the singles. When we hear the word "single" we go out running”.
