Irvine 8/22 - Awesome performance, Pathetic crowd

Featured Replies

Alright, I'm originally from the East Coast, and I've seen Coldplay perform twice before I moved here, on both of their previous worldwide tours. Both times the crowd was explosive. The second time I saw Coldplay, the crowd was so intense we managed to get two encores of of them, they even played B-side material cuz they ran out of album stuff.

But last night I saw The Twisted Logic Tour in the "O.C." among fake plastic boobettes, surfer wannabes and escalade-driving middle-agers. The crowd was pathetic, Chris had to basically beg them to sing during The Scientist, and you couldn't even here anybody. People even sat through all the slow songs. PATHETIC.

I have never been to a Coldplay concert where people stood lifeless through YELLOW! When those lights come bursting through the stadium you get up and jump, or at least throw your arms in the friggin air!!!

People were leaving early during the last song to beat parking!!!! And we were lucky enough to even get one encore with the pathetic 20 second clapping of this OC crowd.

Bottom line: NEVER SEE A CONCERT IN THE OC, it's PATHETIC. They can't even show respect for the greatest band in the world, I can't imagine being at a concert with a lesser artist...

Yeah. The crowd sucked. My cousin and I we're jumping around and shit, but no one around us was doing crap! We were the youngest kids there too. 0_o. And most of the people around us were drunk (the lawn... it's close the the beer stand).

The O.C.'s not that great.... fuck it. Why does the O.C. have such a rep? Oh yeah, that crap ass show.

The O.C's cool and all, but god...

I was at that concert which was 8/21. Yeah, the crowd wasn't as explosive or loud. Many just wanted to sit back, relax and enjoy the music. Me and my friend were screaming and jumping like crazy. People just enjoy live music in different ways. They were pretty dead in the beginning, but later on, they were much louder. The OC is not that bad..

Dude, f*** how they enjoy music. When you listen to Coldplay Live, you MOVE your body cuz the music is ripping through your soul.

Artists like Coldplay shouldn't even give them the pleasure of playing there.

well, i sang every song as loud as i could. But the crowd was pretty dead, i'll admit that. but i must confess, i was one of those people leaving early during fix you, because i've never really liked that song. now if it was "what if" as the last song, that would be a whole different thing.

You guys are right the crowd was pretty dead both nights. I had a blast and the guys put on a great show like always. There is nothing better than listening to their music live and sing a long. I lost my voice from all the signing and screaming.

by the time it got to speed of sound, my voice was already gone

Oh yeah, and this one drunkard spilled beer all over my sister's boyfriend's shirt. 0_o

i was at the 8/20 show and i will admit at the beginning of the show[probably the first 5 songs] the crowd could have been alot more louder but as time went on i think the crowd got alot louder.i myself stood up the whole time and was jumping around and singing along to every song. i think everyone there had a really awesome time and this concert was probably the best concert i had ever been to.

dude, trust me...next time u go to a coldplay concert, do it outside of california...your whole mentality about the best concert uv ever been to will change completely...

people will be full of energy and no shame, and you will not feel embarrassed about rocking out either.

Ah, California's great and all, but I'm not sure if it's great for Coldplay concerts...

Hey, I wasn't ashamed of anything though. :P

I wasnt ashamed of anything either.

i paid to see them and i enjoyed myself

I went to the Sunday show, and I'm glad that I'm not the only one that thought the crowd was pretty lame. This was actually my first real concert, like with a good band, and I went with my older brother. We had really bad seats, like all the way in the back (two rows ahead of lawn, haha) and aaaall the way to the left. I don't even want to talk about why they are so bad, it's a pretty tramautic reason. It was just basically due to the fact that I have no luck whatsoever. But you could still see alright because it goes upward, so you're pretty much looking down. I was singing along to every single word of every single song and jumping and dancing and screaming and clapping until my hands were burning. But the people around me were just dead. Like literally. If it's really because they want to sit back and just hear the music, then why the hell did they go to a concert in the first place?! They can listen to their CD that way. If you go to a concert you have to go nuts! At least that's what I think. And then I couldn't hear anyone singing along in most of the songs, except towards the end. I thought maybe it's because I've never been in this kind of concert before and you can't hear people singing along when you're part of the crowd. But obviously not. It just really pissed me off, and I kind of got shy from dancing and singing when no one else around me did it. Except this one guy in front of me that was dancing sideways really strangely like some weirdo. he looked like he was doing it sarcastically, I don't know what was wrong with him.

But anyway, I'm glad to see that this isn't what concerts are always like and that you guys were disappointed as well. I mean, I thought Coldplay were great! I actually liked that they kept messing up, it kind of made it more real somehow, because at the beginning I didn't really get that I'm actually finally at a Coldplay concert! And then after when we went in the car and listened to X&Y, it suddenly came alive! Like the songs suddenly seemed to have so much more energy in them. I don't know, they just all of a sudden sounded so much better.

But it really wasn't fair for Coldplay to have this kind of crowd. I heard the Live CD and you can hear people singing along so loud. And I saw the Glastonbury videos and people were just going crazy the whole time. even in the Fix You video they were going nuts and singing along. That's another thing, at the end of Fix You, the crowd was supposed to sing the last part, with the "lights will guide you home..."!!, like they do in the video. I started singing and it was seriously dead silence around me, so I stopped because I got embarassed. And I know that the Fix you video was shot in the UK, and Glastonbury is obviously there, and probably the Live 2003 CD was recorded there as well, so now I have a goal to go to the UK once I'm old enough and see a real concert, with a crowd that actually has some frickin' energy in them! Not a crowd that doesn;t even know the words to the Scientist. The Scientist!! What the hell is wrong with them, who doesn't know the words?? Ugh, whatever, I still really enjoyed it though because I sang along to every word and made the best of it. I hope Coldplay aren't afraid to ever come back here :(

Whoa that was long. Sorry, just had to express my frustration :/

I agree... at first I thought the same thing, like, "maybe you can't hear everyone else when you're a part of the crowd.." but unfortunately that's not how it is :/

And sadly enough, Chris has definitely noticed because he gave a little speech about how everyone in California is "too cool to sing along", haha.

Either way, I enjoyed myself.... and I'd like to go the UK too and watch them perform :)

Last night was my first Coldplay concert. I thought the crowd was feeling pretty good. I know i was. I admit I wasn't jumping and screaming...I'll save that for Britney :P ...but I was singing at the top of my voice and enjoying every minute. I was in section Terrace 12 and people were standing and dancing the whole show. When ever they showed the crowd on the big screen, it looked to me like it was a lively bunch of people.

IMO, you have to respect others around you…don’t take it personally if they’re not “feeling it” like you are. Who knows, they might be “feeling it” more than you, but not showing it in the same manner. ;)

One thing I will say…I was truly amazed by the number of fans pouring out of the stadium after the normal set was done. During the encore, fans were still trickling out.

I can see why though…Irvine Meadows has to be the worst for exiting a venue…took us 1 ½ hours…

…but “Fix You” was well worth it. :smug:

JL

Man... that drunk lady infront of us really pissed me off, but at least she had some energy. 0.o

I mean, the old peeps in back of us had more energy and we're singing along a hell of a lot more than the younger of the crowd around us. -_-

And yeah, back in the lawn, most of the people around us were gone before the final bow. :o

Haha, remember when someone through a bra onstage? That was so funny, they were so surprised! Chris said something like, " *laugh* holy shit! I think someone just through a bra!" and then "you know some of us are married.." and then he said something like that it's nice anyway or something. That was so great... I loved the things he said in between songs.

White Shadow, have no fear...I have been to Coldplay performances stateside where the crowds were as enthusiastic as in the Live 2003 DVD. When I went to that performance in New York it was insane. You don't have to make a goal of going to the UK for a Coldplay concert, just make a goal of seeing them somewhere else in this country. I don't what it is in the OC, it's just pathetic. Very sad and frustrating.

About that parking...a 1.5 hr exit is not much to cry about....I remember being stuck for over 3 hours after A Perfect Circle during the 13th Step tour...

You justr have to pop in X&Y and have everyone in your car rock out to enjoy the 1.5 hr wait!

^ haha, my brother and I were in this line of cars waiting to go in, which literally didn't move. From waaay before the parking. People tried to cut but we blocked them :smug: . And it later turned out that we had VIP parking but I thought that was something more special and that ours were normal, at the end we didn't use them and that was pretty much a waste of $20... we parked way in the entrance, and I thought Coldplay was already starting because people were cheering and it was already after 8:30 so I thought for sure Black Mountain already finished. We freaked out and ran aaaaall the way through the parking lot to the amphitheater, everyone was looking at us like we were crazy but I just assumed that's because they are the stereotypical Coldplay fans and can't be bothered to run  . So we rushed to the bathroom and didn't even buy any food (we were starving), except one ice cream that my brother got. When we got to our seats, it started like more than 15 minutes after! And we never wanted to take the chance and leave for food because we were afraid they would start right then. then finally the lights closed and it began, and we completely forgot about being hungry until after, when we went to In-n-out :smug: .

So alright then, I guess I can just go to another state... NY will be easy because I go there often! That's so stupid that in the O.C. the crowds are so dull, do they think they're too good or something? Ugh. I did notice that everyone looked sort of... the same. I think many of them were from the O.C.

I bought a shirt and a poster after the concert! Here's the shirt:

i drove out there from vegas and i have seen coldplay play in vegas before...and the vegas crowd for that show was definitely dull,at the beginning of coldplay's show in irvine i did notice alot of people didn't seem into it but as the night wore on there was alot more energy.i think coldplay hates coming to vegas so going to OC was my only chance to see them on this tour and i'm glad i went ;]

hey---i didnt think it was that bad----i went to both shows-on sat and sun--on sat. i sat in the orchestra seats all the way in the front and people were going wild there---everyone was so excited and singing along----since i went with 5 other friends too---we were all having the best time----

on sunday though---i was in the lodge seats in the middle--and i'll admit---the crowd back there was diff. but still--i wasnt paying attention to crowd much---i was just having a great time rocking---didnt care about the others

i think saturdays show was the best though---chris is really funny and the show was definately better :P
