my parent's business is raising standardbred horses for harness racing. i have 1 horse of my own here - got a barn and paddock. so i guess my dad's logic was to get christopher started into the family obsession early. he had me on horseback before i could walk and driving a surry by age 4.... so here we go

?...........

your dad owns a ranch?

it's kentucky - we call them horse farms :P

oh my sweet mother of...

I got 140 horses that I ride every day. :disappointed:

o.... k.... now i have to get out to the barn and fix up a stall.... damn!!! i am not in the mood for manual labor today, my back is still not quite 100%.

well you kinda shocked me when you said your dad bought christopher a horse b/c at first I didn't believe you. And then you said you own a horse, that's a big responsibility. You must have a lot of work to do around the house sometimes. Well Christopher is going to be excited :) Sorry you have to clean. I have to do some work today also, been sort of working all day... haha, if you don't include all the time I waste here. :anxious: haha

yes i have dealt with horses my whole life - showing, traveling with them, bloodlines, etc. my family has been in the biz for 3 generations. my dad's family have a branch of the farm in illinois, and we have the kentucky branch - they take this stuff very seriously. but i love it. my horse is a thoroughbred/standardbred mix and he is awesome and really no trouble at all - sort of like a dog. he is a big baby :P

aww, how sweet. But you can't cuddle with him. :P :uhoh: I mean........

oh yes i can!! - no shit... i helped deliver this baby... and he is trained like a dog!! i can tell him to "snuggle" and he lays his head on my shoulder and rubs my face. he kisses. and he kneel down and bows. it is hilarious. lots of times i will go out under a tree and he will lay down, and i will prop up against him and read. sounds weird, but it is really cool.

awwwwwww

What a smart horse. I like horses, but I'm always afraid they're going to nip off my fingers... I'd be too afraid to snuggle with a horse haha.

awww i thought it was cute. there is something very awe inspiring having an animal that is so powerful, be so gentle. but i guess when you grow up with them, the fear isn't there. i have been kicked, bitten, thrown... and you just keep going. but my younger brother is the primary one that is being primed to take over the business... he is ate up with it. i like to dabble it from time to time. i prefer it more as a pleasure rather than an industry. i can't detach enough to be ok selling horses at auction and stuff - i always used to cry. :embarrased:

I know! that would be so hard. Horses are very beautiful animals. Some of them really expect to have respect and they deserve it. You sound lucky to have a horse like that.

:cool4: well, everybody's got to snuggle with somebody sometimes

  • Author

  • Author
