any classically trained musicians?

Featured Replies

just out of curiosity, if you're a classically trained musician, pop in and say hello ;) and the basics, what you play, how long, etc.

as in taking lessons for an instrument, etc. ;) just curious :)

piano for about 5 years, but i wouldn't call myself classically trained by any stretch of the imagination

Uh, I played piano for 4 years, but I quit when I was 11... and I've had drum lessons for a little over a year...

the drum lessons don't help much though--even my teacher admitted he doesn't really need to teach me much during my lessons anymore, haha.

Piano Players

Began private piano lessons at 8 years old. Venturing from clasical to pop over the years. Studied harmony at college, played flute in the wind ensemble. Written songs with best friend RONA, a talented singer still singing today. Developed me own style, Me Mummie says I sound like Coldplay piano, its just a coincidence however and I'm Open to sharing whatever you like.

Im not a classically trained musician, but i can sing! :) I used to have lessons, but i didnt like the way the teacher taught me so i quit. She tried to make me sound like a choir girl which really bugged me. A lot of people say i could be 'famous', but i couldnt think of anything i'd want less! :/

It's weird coz i never actually admit that i can sing, if people ask me i say 'not really', but if you cant say what you are talented at without sounding big headed....well thats just silly i guess! So here i am saying that Yes i can sing and im proud!

grd 7 cello + clarinet. I think you might just count that as classical! I taught myself sax and keyboard, and im workin on guitar. Classical training isnt necessary, but it can be a great help.

yeh well its better than the violin. scum of the orchestra! almost as bad as those damn oboes!! kill em!!! kill em all I say!!!!!! :stunned:

ahem

I prefer clarinet. your further away from the conductor, which reduces your chances of being gutted by his baton.

Yeh, cos you always play out of tune :P . Why do we tune to oboes anyway? should be clarinets. (not that im biased)

But I think we all have to agree: the best instrument in the orchestra is the bass trombone. Its only just legal. they tried to get it banned at the geneva convention, but to no avail.

A young man of 13 years, currently taking lessons for Piano.

Shizle I play

Hi everyone... New member here.

I've been classically trained on piano (Royal Conservatory) to level 8. I stopped last year and switched to a teacher that could teach me better so that I ad-lib my solos, fine-tune my ear, and accompany singers in a band.

I now play all different types of music for a select few good singers and musicians from my high-school, and we have lots of fun.

I've also played clarinet for 6 years, but have stopped that this year as I have switched to drums and other percussion in the concert band. I picked that up last year.

The The last instrument I play is guitar, which I picked up 3 years ago.

Now my ambition is to pick up a bass, and start a one man band.... but not really, It's just good to know how to play every instrument.

hey brian welcome to the board ;)

the way you learned reminds me very much of my musical background. i went to the equivalent australian version (sydney conservatorium) and am currently doing masters for violin, and i have played piano for 6 years or so, but then switched to drums aswell! and then picked up guitar last about 3 years ago aswell  it reminds me VERY much of your pattern of musical training. i've also started on my friends bass lately which makes it even scarier comparing everything to you!

i once went to the royal school of music for the day, but the bastards almost threw me out when i played jazz. I shouldv played some iron maiden or something: that wouldve shaken them up. :D

y'all been playing for a while. :P

ive been goin for about 8 months.
