oboe and clarinet! nice ;)

lol @ the bass! oohhh i wonder whyy! ;)

wow, here are a lot of people who are very talented!

I've been playing the cello for 11 years, since I've been five years old.

now I'm trying to learn the guitar and a little bit of the piano (mainly because of Coldplay!) .... it's a lot of fun!  ;)

I took piano lessons for six years and quitted at 13. I started playing again when I started listening to Coldplay. I can play all of their songs now.

yeh. its good to start an instrument early, but not too early. I hate pushy parents, almost as much as i hate those stupid stuck up "im grade 8 and im only 11" kids. They cant write a good tune or improvise, but what the hell, theyre in the national youth orchestra, which obvoiusly makes them so much better than me :wink3:

yeh rite :)

Hey,

wow everyone amazingly musical here!! Well i've played piano for around 7 year, violin for 3 (doing grades on both with the Royal associated board) and have started singing lessons this year. I also chose music for GCSE in school so have done a fair bit of composing. I think its great to be able to play and instrument, especially to play pop songs etc. But i do think a classical training is a great basis and background. I alos this is makes it easier to start new styles when you can play classical.

that's excellent cece ;) i wish i could sing  how are your singing lessons?

Lessons are going good, (well i say good, i've got a bit better, so an improvement!!) I just really want to work or getting my voice stronger. It was my mum that talked me into gettin lessons because she said i had a gift and shouldnt waste it. (although i dont know if i'd call it a gift! I'm very average!) But i'm really enjoying it. I would encourage people to try it! you should give it a go!! :D

haha that's excellent! seem like they're helping you alot ;) yeah i want to go for lessons (well my dad keeps pestering me) but i don't know if i really want to, i'm a bit scared! :uhoh:

Oh dont be scared! I'm actually quite shy and i was quite nervous when i went for my first lesson but it was totally fine. I already have to sing when i do piano and violin grades anyway. Do you have to do this? Like a couple of bars of sight singing and then some echo exercises?? Anyway you should definitly try it, and dont be scared!!!

 yeah i have to do all those aural exercises which involve singing for my violin grades, but still i'm shy/nervous about singing  so i don't want to go to lessons. :(

that's excellent ;) good work and good luck with everything

i dont know if understand ok

but i started with piano and keyboards at the same time with 4 years old, and still playing

but one year ago i had to leave the lessons because college. but im still playing.

of course the firt years was ALL classic lessons

and now more like coldplay :)

but sometimes i still play classic tabs too

My family has always been very music oriented so this is going to sound pretty nuts. But I assure you its all true...

I was classically trained in piano for 5 years, I've been playing for 13 years. I was classically trained in Clarinet for 4 years, Alto Clarinet for a year, and Bass Clarinet for a year. Trained in voice for about a year or so and I'm still working on it...um, then I'm self taught in Drums, Guitar, Bass...

But the only one I'm really good at is piano...and I guess my voice is okay.

Classical training is great to have as a base but in reality I think you get a better and more full grasp on how music and the instrument itself works if you're self taught with a basic classical training, cuz its all experimentation. Trial and error. And such.

I play piano, classically trained when I'm with my teacher, and Coldplay trained when I'm up late at night playing.

LOL! Me too! I took six years of Royal Conservatory piano as a kid which I couldn't really stand for the most part. Now that I'm virtually starting over with the piano, I'm wishing I had paid more attention back then. Chris Martin has a pretty good grasp of music Theory *cringe* so I'm actually learning about the instrument again, not just playing a few chords.

I'm 15, been playing piano for eleven years. Classically trained for ten of those years, hehe. And I'm not-very-classically training myself in guitar and voice =)

  • 2 weeks later...

I've played guitar (electric) for 2 ½ years, sadly you don't notice it hearing me play :\ ;) I don't learn very much at my lessons so you I'm almost self-taught.

I can play drums and bass okay but I'm not taking any lessons.

I want to play in a band but none of my friends like the same music as me except one and she doesn't play any instrument...:P

Think I would focus to get better on guitar if I played in a band..

I'm almost 26 and have been playing piano since I was 6. I love classical music, but I always HATED the Theory portions of my lessons. I would cheat at the diagrams I had to do. Now I wish I'd paid more attention because there are cetain "theory" things I'm not very good at b/c I never learned them properly. As an adult I think it would mean more to me now if I had to re-learn it.

I'm fifteen years old, and i'm playing for 2,5 years piano now. I've got lessons. I played some Classical music, but Jazz and Blues is more my kind of style.

First i played 5 years keyboard, it was a waist of time.. For me.

I also play guitar, self taught. And bass also, I can play it also a bit :) And i'm starting with the drums.. i started since well a few weeks ago.

I allready play in a band, i play Piano, keyboards and guitar. Well that's my experience :) I'm improving my ear for music now. To play music by ear :)
