Class In Great Britain?

Featured Replies

hey hey!

on thursday I'll have to tell my classmates something about class in great britain during our english lesson.

so maybe someone from great britain (or the rest of the world ^^) could help me with that...

how many social classes are there and are they still important today? is there something like a upper-middle class, or is it only the lower/middle/upper class?

I think it's kinda difficult, but I hope I'm gonna make it. :/

thank you very much in advance!

Well... In Business and Media perspectives... There is the socio economic groupings which are based on how much money a person earns.

A, B, C1, C2, D and E.

A is the highest, the high upper class people and C1 is average, with E being the unemployed people.

D is people with manufacturing jobs, like factory workers and the like etc.

It goes on like that.

If that ain't what you're looking for, then I'll try help find out what you really looking for.

Edit:

Oh, as for importance, in Business and Media they are important as they help determine which types of people the products / advertisements will be aimed at.

The Government probably also uses these classes to sort out some stuff like benefits and the like. I don't know anything about that though - just an assumption.

so I think that makes D the so-called working-class?

Yeah that's right. :) Although C2 could be called that also, just somewhat higher paid.

^okay.

upper class

upper-middle class

middle class

lower-middle class

working class

is this correct?

Hmm sorry about the delay in reply here! But yeah you were right! lol

With E being unemployed, of course. :) Good luck with the whole thing.

yeah thats all true but class here in Britain i doubt is no different nowadays as it is in any other parts of Europe ...

in the early 1900's class was very important and everything you did was based upon class, nowadays class is hardly ever looked at and considered in society :D
