ZIP Files

Featured Replies

I have rather splendid set of videos from Earl's Court totalling 20 minutes and 28 seconds or 236MB if you prefer. This is clearly a lot of data and I have had various thoughts about ways of sharing them with the punters out there because I know some people would like to see them. First I was going to do a poll on which one(s) would be made available then I figured forget that because people would miss out on some. Then I decided on maybe putting them all in a ZIP file or a "rar" file or something like that but sadly I have no idea of how to go about doing that so hopefully some techy type out there can help me! How would you recommend bundling all this together and which way should I do it? Many thanks in advance! :)

Do you have winRAR already?

Once you download it you can put all the videos inside one folder, then left click that folder and click where it says Add to "your folder's name here". That's all really, after you can upload some place large enough to hold 200+ mb.

Or you can also split the folder with all the vids into lots of smaller rar folders (volumes), for easier upload and download. You can put how big you want the cut pieces to be, I'd say maybe 50MB for easy upload onto rapidshare. You'd probably end up with about 5 pieces or so since each piece would be 50 megs.

If you want to split the files, you left click on the folder, then click Add to archives and where it says Split to volumes, bytes, you'd type in 50m (if you want to split by 50 megs). And make sure to write it just like that (50 and lowercase m) because 50M (capitalized) would split each part by million bytes, instead of megabytes.

Hope that makes sense :rolleyes4: :laugh2:

Cheers pal! That does make sense and I am trying it out now. I really want to share these videos so they might be on their way soon! Thanks again!

Right I now have 4 .rar files each with 5 videos in except the last one which has 2. I have put a word file in as well with what each video is. Now which site do you recommend for upload? Rapidshare seems to be popular...

Cool, glad splitting/rar stuff worked okay! And rapidshare does seem to be the most popular, but a lot of people have been complaining about it recently.. you could also consider turboupload (limit's 70mb). It's up to you

Thanks again! :D

Tomorrow I will set aside some time and upload them. :)

Thank you so much for this info - I've been wondering how to split large files!!
