A song I composed inspired by Coldplay

Featured Replies

I've been a member of CFU for a little while, but haven't really contributed anything to it. I wrote this song almost two years ago, when I first bought a keyboard, after finally discovering Coldplay. I bought AROBTTH in December 2003, and then bought my first keyboard in January 2004. I could only take one month of playing air piano along with AROBTTH before I had to buy one. I've played guitar for eight years as well. I promised myself I would begin piano lessons in 2006. Here is the first song I composed on the piano, inspired by Coldplay (music, no vocals). It's just me on acoustic guitar, bass, piano, and a string arrangement I created with Reason.

"Lull" (3:41) - 5.06MB

I titled this song "Lull". Here are some defintions of lull:

Lull \Lull\, v. i.

To become gradually calm; to subside; to cease or abate for a

time; as, the storm lulls.

Lull \Lull\, n.

1. The power or quality of soothing; that which soothes; a

lullaby. [R.] --Young.

2. A temporary cessation of storm or confusion.

Lull \Lull\ (l[u^]l), v. t. [imp. & p. p. Lulled (l[u^]ld); p.

pr. & vb. n. Lulling.] [Akin to OD. lullen to sing to

sleep, G. lullen, Dan. lulle, Sw. lulla; all of imitative

origin. Cf. Loll, Lollard.]

To cause to rest by soothing influences; to compose; to calm;

to soothe; to quiet. " To lull him soft asleep." --Spenser.

Such sweet compulsion doth in music lie,

To lull the daughters of necessity. --Milton.

This song has been a "Linus security blanket" for me. I always come back to it when need it. I always thought of it as a lullaby, so that's kind of where the title came from as well. I took a break from music production beginning in May 2005. I'm looking forward to producing again in 2006. Enough rambling, I am going to remix this song with more strings and "oohs and ahhs". I will post an update as soon as possible. I might even get the courage to write lyrics and sing along as well.

Any feedback is welcomed. I've been needing a kick in the pants to start producing music again. Let me know who else this song reminds you of, besides Coldplay. I'm always up for listening to new artists. Please tell me what comes to mind when you listen to this song. I've been trying forever, to write lyrics for it. Although I have written quite a bit of music, this is my first attempt at sharing my music online. I hope you all like this Coldplay- inspired song.

Thanks for listening.

Enjoy CFU!

It looks like you put alot of heart and soul into this song. And it is also nice to see that it has been a comfort to you. Keep on producing music and let us know how it goes :)

Thanks for the compliments. I guess tomorrow will be 01-01-06. I'm not sure why I took off so long on producing, but I am glad to get back to it. I'm very pleased that you all have enjoyed what I've produced so far. I've started on a string arrangement that has a vocal line that I hear just "screaming" over it. I've decided to speed it up a few BPM's as well. This has definitely made me want to finish a remix of this song.

Thank you all very much!

Here's my rough draft of "Proof". I'll add the strummed acoustic guitar part later. There's more to the piano part as well. I'm still trying to figure it out. ;)

I've been sitting on my string arrangement of "lull". I still have a lot more to add to it, but most of it doesn't sound quite right. Here's a sneak peek at my orchestral version of "lull". It will be me on piano, guitar, and bass. I'm not really that talented.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement ClearAsCrystal.

Enjoy!

Sure thing, Lance. You seem to have the passion for music. Always composing.

That is a good thing. And if you say ( I don't agree with it) that you are not that talented, you have that passion for it. So keep it up and keep me updated, because I a am liking what I have heard so far

Gravity outro

I finally discovered the studio version of "Gravity" off of the latest "Talk" single. I've also been getting into Sigur Ros lately. After seeing the Sigur Ros video, "Svefn-g-englar", I am a believer.

People keep commenting on the outro to "Gravity" sounding like Sigur Ros. I started playing along to the "Gravity" outro one piano key at a time. Once I learned the basic melody I did my best at playing and singing along in my best Sigur Ros vocals. Playing and singing along to the "Gravity" outro gave me goosebumps. I haven't heard a Coldplay song song so good since I first heard "The Scientist". It reminded me that life is good. I captured what I could to record.

Take 1 - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4S8P35VQ piano only

Please supply your own Sigur Ros vocals and feel free to play a mean air piano as well. :smug2:

Thanks for listening!

It's funny for me to learn a song on the piano before I could play it on the guitar.

I heard it and loved it...like all of the work you have posted here.

Keep up the great work, Lance :) ;)

  • 4 weeks later...

Just had a listen to Lull....wow, I completely enjoyed it! It was very soothing and a real pleasure to listen to. I'm downloading your other stuff now. Can't wait to have a listen! Keep at it, Lance. You have a real talent. :)
