Is it okay to post original compositions in here?

Would anyone else be interested in sharing originally composed songs? I'd like to share some songs I've written on guitar and piano that were inspired by Coldplay. I'm looking for feedback on how to improve my songs. :guitarist:

Thanks.

recorded? but yeah of course

Okay, here goes...

I wrote this song almost two years ago, when I first bought a keyboard, after finally discovering Coldplay. I bought AROBTTH in December 2003, and then bought my first keyboard in January 2004. I could only take one month of playing air piano along with AROBTTH before I had to buy one. I've played guitar for eight years as well. I promised myself I would begin piano lessons in 2006. Here is the first song I composed on the piano, inspired by Coldplay (music, no vocals). It's just me on acoustic guitar, bass, piano, and a string arrangement I created with Reason.

"Lull" (3:41) - 5.06MB

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S133GXUI

I titled this song "Lull". Here are some defintions of lull:

Lull \Lull\, v. i.

To become gradually calm; to subside; to cease or abate for a

time; as, the storm lulls.

Lull \Lull\, n.

1. The power or quality of soothing; that which soothes; a

lullaby. [R.] --Young.

2. A temporary cessation of storm or confusion.

Lull \Lull\ (l[u^]l), v. t. [imp. & p. p. Lulled (l[u^]ld); p.

pr. & vb. n. Lulling.] [Akin to OD. lullen to sing to

sleep, G. lullen, Dan. lulle, Sw. lulla; all of imitative

origin. Cf. Loll, Lollard.]

To cause to rest by soothing influences; to compose; to calm;

to soothe; to quiet. " To lull him soft asleep." --Spenser.

Such sweet compulsion doth in music lie,

To lull the daughters of necessity. --Milton.

This song has been a "Linus security blanket" for me. I always come back to it when need it. I always thought of it as a lullaby, so that's kind of where the title came from as well. I took a break from music production beginning in May 2005. I'm looking forward to producing again in 2006. Enough rambling, I am going to remix this song with more strings and "oohs and ahhs". I will post an update as soon as possible. I might even get the courage to write lyrics and sing along as well.

Any feedback is welcomed. I've been needing a kick in the pants to start producing music again. Let me know who else this song reminds you of, besides Coldplay. I'm always up for listening to new artists. Please tell me what comes to mind when you listen to this song. I've been trying forever, to write lyrics for it. Although I have written quite a bit of music, this is my first attempt at sharing my music online. I hope you all like this Coldplay- inspired song.

Thanks for listening.

Is anyone else willing to share their Coldplay- inspired songs? :guitarist:

This sounds really cool, I'm looking foward to hearing them.

I'll download the songs and post feedback after I listen through.

Nice idea to do that! I'm very curious what it'll sound like. (I have no sound on this pc so I have to listen it on another one, but I'll also post feedback later)

The actual chord progression for the song came when I opened a book on alternate guitar tunings. It had double dropped D listed as well as some chord shapes. I tried a few D major chords but all of the G major chords came without any reference. This is one of those songs where everything fell into place really quick. I love the alternate tunings. Anyone care for tabs of this song? It is rather easy to play along with on guitar.

wow! nice job. i really like it. i keep listening to it. its very relaxing.

Hi, I listened to it and I liked it. It's very relaxing to listen to it like King Payam said. Maybe lyrics on it would be nice, but I do also like it as an instrumental song. I's nice that you can play all the instruments yourself. I also play guitar and I hope I can also write some songs when I'm better. Congratulations & keep going!

I like your song! It reminds me of Warning Sign. Did that song inspire you?

Thanks,

Pretty much all of AROBTTH inspired me to learn piano. The outro of "Warning Sign" made me really want to learn how to play.

I've got a rough draft of "Proof" that I made this morning. :/

I'll have a better copy and whole song up as soon as possible.

Enjoy!

What did you use to record and mix it? I like to record something myself (or try it ;) )

Hi Lance! I really, really like your song. Was it you playing along with the piano? I thought you cant play the piano?!

Your song has very beautiful chord progressions and the melody of the piano is very nice! Have you written down the notes or at least the chors?

I would love to hear somebody sing to this song!

els, I used cubase which is bundled with some of the higher priced soundcards. You'll also need a microphone and pre-amp. I recommend checking out http://www.kvraudio.com for more information on all of these. There's more technical language to recording guitar. Do not get discouraged. Let me know if you need any further help with this. I listened to my first rough draft of this song and realized how much I improved over time. Good luck and have fun!

Bitterprince,

The piano part was the first song I wrote on my keyboard. I am not a great piano player but I can play the main four chord shapes on piano. That's basically all this song is, the white keys on the piano in C major. I cheated by using the transpose button on my keyboard to match the "key" of my acoustic guitar. I'm hoping to take piano lessons so that I can play my songs without the transpose button. I would also like to write more intricate piano lines.

Here's a start for how to play this. I wrote the song in "G" major, but it was way too slow. I tried to re-record it at a faster tempo, but it never had the same feel. I had to pitch bend the song two steps to make it faster, so its is in "A" major. The guitar is tuned in "Double dropped D" tuning. If your guitar is in standard tuning (EADGBe- low to high), then you tune the top and bottom string down one step to D. The tuning is then (DADGBd- low to high). Then you'll have to put a capo on the second fret to match the song. Sorry if it is confusing.

A very basic chord structure would be...

It's start's off as the intro x 2 : A - F#min

verse x 2 : A - D - A - E -A - D - A - C#min

(Here's where the piano enters) pre x 2 : F#min - D - E - A

chorus (same as intro) x 2

verse x 2

pre x 2

chorus x 2

verse x 2

pre x2

Outro (same as intro) x 2

I'll post tabs later. It is a lot of open string chords in double dropped D tuning.

Thanks to everyone for the words of encouragement

I was clearing out my hard drive and came across some old songs I wrote. A lot of these songs were composed all at once, so I am proud that that exist.

Looking back, these almost seem like journal entries from long ago.

Here they are,

Infinite -

http://rapidshare.de/files/20176651/Infinite.mp3.html

One morning I woke up and hammered out this chord progression on the keyboard. I figured it was a rip-off of something. The guitar part is very easy.

Play -

http://rapidshare.de/files/20176844/Play.mp3.html

The intro is very "Square One"-ish. My buddy said that this sounds like Moby, so that's where the title came from.

Fall -

http://rapidshare.de/files/20177139/Fall.mp3.html

This is a two chord song (six total). I don't appreciate this one as much as everyone else, since I know how easy it is to play. I could play with electronic sounds all day long. I might do a remix of this one.

Faster!!!

24 -

http://rapidshare.de/files/20177327/24.mp3.html

Another easy guitar chord progression. The cello is so melancholic.

Okay, this is my weak attempt to copy Damien Rice!

I might need to speed this up a bit.

This is a song about the aftermath of Dimebag's assassination.

Why???

A E D -

http://rapidshare.de/files/20177715/A_E_D.mp3.html

Three chords can make a song. This song is fun to teach people. It almost makes playing the guitar seem easy. This is a optimistic good-bye song.

Thanks for listening!

Any feedback is welcomed.

great idea.
