Bono Says Campaigning Caused Tension in U2

Featured Replies

They didn't seem to mind campaigning for that video ipod. ;)

I think I'll just keep my mouth shut on this one.

haha I'm not negatively hittin' on U2. I admire those guys and their music well enough. :D

And besides, this is a democratic forum. Don't be greedy and keep your thoughts to yourself!

Oh no, I don't think anyone's dissing U2. I'm just tired of always correcting everybody when it comes to them.

It's just a weird statement, that's all. "Thankfully Chris isn't as involved in the campaign."

It's sort of greedy sounding. And it bothers me...

"Thank god Chris isn't going to Ghana more often, or the band could never get into that studio!"

I admire it when true fans stick up for their bands.

I was never there, obviously, and I don't pretend to know what the band went through during the years between their Elevation tour and the release of 'Bomb'. From the interviews that I've read, however, I don't think they ever came close to splitting up. It was more of a "listen, you need to be with US now" thing.

I mean, back in the 80s he was almost kicked out of the band for climbing up rafters... It's sort of like that.

If anything, I think that Chris could even do more for his campaign. I'm actually of the opinion that if Coldplay were to not tour for a couple years while Chris worked for MTF, or whatever, that would be an extremely good thing. By serving people in need, by trying to get justice for these people in any way, I think that that's more meaningful and worthwhile than playing to me, who've already seen them. Is that selfish of me? I hope not.

Chris probably doesn't want to get involved in the politics of it, and that's probably a good thing. Bono has said that it's physically hard on him, and emotionally, to have to deal with these selfish people who run the world. (he didn't use those words, but whatever.) Maybe the world only needs one international activist, afterall...

*feels better now*

See? Breathe in, breathe out. It's like music info yoga!

U2 almost split b/c of Bono's obsession with campaigning against poverty...he said he "took it too far"

thanfully chris isn't as crazy about the campaign as Bono is

i'm sorry, the way i said that did make me sound a bid greedy...what i meant to say was that i'm happy that he can balance between being involved with the band and with the campaign itself

i'm actually involved with Oxfam and volunteer with them...so i support the cause 100% and the last thing i want is someone to think i am greedy and dont want people involved with it

Actually, I was really excited when I read TIME magazine's "persons of the year" feature on Bono. I was extremely impressed, and it even made me want to be a better person :D

The thing with Chris is that all of Coldplay are for MTF and have their say in it, but since Chris is the best-known member of the band, it's automatically his job to be the front spokesperson too. Strictly an opinion, but I think it's true. Coldplay know their priorites as a band, but also make a good point of spreading the word of what they believe in.

of course, no one can EVER do what Bono has done/is doing. So I guess we can just leave it at that.
