Coldfloyd

Has anyone noticed that, on X&Y, some of the songs seem to flow together extremely well? You know, like the later Pink Floyd's cohesive suite albums. When I'm listening to Swallowed by the Sea I don't notice the switch to Twisted Logic until the first 'you go backwards again', and this shows extreme promise in that field.

Personally, I dislike compilation albums. The songs just seem to randomly switch from one to the next, often joltingly so.

This is why I love Pink Floyd. It's almost...almost like classical music, like how a piece just flows together and repeats itself near the end and has recurring themes and whatnot...this is what I would love to see Coldplay doing soon, and I see them doing it.

Yeah! The changover between white shadows and fix you is similar... the organ still plays a single tone and the organ "riff" of fix you starts with that tone in the background... sounds very great!

I love such seamless transitions. Simply sounds great :-)

I have noticed that. Everything is quite cohesive in this album and I love it.

And I know what your saying with the flow. Death Cab and Sigur rós (Two of my other favorite bands) are known for doing that. Death Cab did it in Plans and Transatlanticism and Sigur rós has been doing it through all their albums and I really do like it. :)

It would be a nice thing to see in their next album. I think it's a possibility considering that they seem to be enjoying mucking around with synths and weird guitar sounds lately. (The studio version of Gravity especially)

Good topic!

Yeah, I've noticed that too. And liked it very much. It gives cohesion the whole album

I like it when some of the tracks flow into one another...continuity...I also noticed this a little towards the end of Arcade Fire's album.

^I love that!!! :)

sort of.....if you aren't paying attntion to the song. :P

It's funny you say that, I was listening to X&Y in the car yesterday and noticed that same thing. Especially the ending to White Shadows and Fix You.

I love how the Arcade Fire does this as well crazyduckette. Like at the end of Haiti, when it goes into the beat of Rebellion (Lies). My favorite part of the album!

(And the thematic, flowing aspect to Pink Floyd's albums are why I love them as well)

You mean, like the album is like a series of movements?

Yes, I agree and it just goes to show how much thought has gone into what songs they chose for X&Y and which order to put them in.

And that's why they don't like releasing singles...
