Getting a job

Featured Replies

There is a moment in every man's life and women too, that the search for a job becomes necessary.

And sometimes you meet in the need to look for a work.

Sometimes you are too young and sometimes you are not well prepared.

For some works you need certain age and preparation.

For some other works you just need to meet someone who should work already there.

Did you have a job?

Do you want one?

Tell us your experience

I have an AWFUL job and I desperately want a new one, but it's not easy. I can't find anything I want to do.

If I didn't have a loan, or a car, or a phone bill I'd quit tomorrow. Sigh.

10 points that could help you to get a job:

Don't Dress Like A Slob

If you've got an interview, the company thinks you can do the job. The interviewer wants to know what sets you apart from other qualified candidates. The interviewer is also looking for "fit." Picking up on the company vibe as expressed in proper attire is the first test. Don't show up dressed for the beach at a button-down firm.

2-Don't Mumble Or Grunt

Don't answer the interviewer's questions "yes" or "no", and don't get huffy and say, "It's right there in my resume." The interviewer seeks to gauge how well you think on your feet and how you present yourself in a make-or-break situation.

3-Don't Bash Your Former Boss

Foul-mouthing your former boss or co-workers says a lot about you--none of it good--and nothing about those you bash. Everyone knows difficult, incompetent and nincompoop bosses exist, but in an interview such creatures become, at worst, "demanding." Find something good to say about your former boss or don't say anything. Reminder: You'll have to say something.

4-Don't Miss Typos

Thimk: Whut doez a covah leterr fild wid multippel misspelins sai abut yer attendion too detailz, nut two mantion yer genral cumpitance?

5-Don't Fire Scattershot

Always address your cover letter to a specific person. "Dear Recruiter" or "Dear Sir or Madam" will get your material tossed in the trash. If you don't know how to spell a person's name, call or check the company's Web site to get it right. Same for job title and the company's full name.

6-Don't Exaggerate

Present your accomplishments in a straight-ahead, understated fashion. The details will come out during the interview. Don't claim credit for others' work. Remember: Confabulation is death in a job interview.

7-Don't Discuss Money First

Never discuss compensation in the initial interview, because it shows that you're not committed to the company and see the job just as a paycheck.

8-Don't Say You Have Other Offers

Don't tell the interviewer that you're a hot commodity and have several other offers pending in an effort to increase the offer. The interviewer will think it's hokey at best and, at worst, a lie. Neither conclusion improves your prospects of landing the

9-Don't Hit The Interview Cold

Do your homework prior to the interview. Know the company's products or services, and know the competition. If you can't discuss the operation, the interviewer will conclude that you want a job--any job--and will be out the door the instant something better, or at least halfway decent, comes along.

10-Don't Tell Jokes

Someone is bound to be upset by something all the time, so avoid jokes and goofball quips during the interview, even if the interviewer cracks wise.

i don't have a job

i'm still in school. bleh.

i hate school...

i'd rather be cleaning bathrooms 'n crap than going to school. :idea2:

and yes i know what it's like--i did it for 10 days straight  it was so much freaking fun

Imagine this:

Working in the school cleaning bathrooms! :stunned: ,but at least you would get paid

I have a job, work in retail, but I want a new one. I hate working weekends.

Me too! It's the kids holiday now so my next three shifts are all 11:30am-9:30pm which is just hella long and when I've finished it's too late to do anything! I work by a rota and my shifts and day off changes every week so I can't plan anything. My boyfriend has a 9 to 5, but I hardly get to see him cos I'm always in work when he's not.

I need an office job. Stat! :stunned:

  • Author

Yeah a office job is have one of the best schedule!

8 hours of work and you have all the afternoon for you!

I don't have a job. The last job I had just about drove me insane. I took phone reservations for National Parks and the incessant beeps of the incoming calls eventually made want to chew my own arm off. So...I quit. :D

I want to another job as soon as I can organize it with school and crap, but it so hard to find one in this area. But anything would be better than being on the phone all day.

I'm still young but I wanna have a job to get my own money to buy stuff I need

I'm gonna be a Forex trader, and I'm starting this year hopefully.
