A world-class set from a world-class band.

YEAH BABY!!! THAT'S WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!! :D

thank youdajrekshn, :)

as a live experience Coldplay were most certainly a collective. In fact, they were almost a gang. They gelled in spectacular fashion on Clocks.

:smug: :D

This is the story from that lady itself...

PART ONE

Well I was so thrilled to be one of the Radio 2 competition winners and to have the opportunity to go to such a special place as Abbey Rd, (the Beatles were a part of my childhood and yes I did buy that album on vinyl!!) and to have the chance to be a part of live concert with Coldplay that in itself was enough!!

I managed to get to St Johns Wood early in the afternoon and found the café by the station that sold the memorabilia – and yes I did buy my key ring! It wasn’t far from there to the Abbey Rd Recording Studios – which looked from the outside like any other house – painted white and quite unassuming, there was a wall to the front and gates and fans of the Beatles had been signing the wall to say they had been there – it looks as if the wall had been painted over several times – to make room for more fan graffiti!! There were several fans their taking pics of the studios who were not there for coldplay, that was interesting to watch!

As I waited for my son to arrive from his uni – I was told by some people waiting in a car that coldplay would arrive at 4pm WOW – I soon realised that the group who told me were autograph hunters for the e bay market!!! They knew which car that each band member arrived in and when Chris Martin arrived they spotted his car way down the road and they were right too! Talk about being well informed!! – My son (who is also called chris) arrived just in time to get autographs along with myself – Will arrived first and then Guy then Jonny – each in separate Mercedes with drivers and of course there were several security guards from the BBC on hand- we were kept outside the parking area but luckily Will, Guy and Jonny all came over to the railings and signed pieces for everyone who could get close – then we waited for Chris to arrive – as he did so we called out but he walked away with his minder to the stage door – a bit disappointing but I understood accepted and respected his decision ( little did I know then what was to happen later on to make up for that disappointment!!)– the e bay group informed me that he had had paparazzi at his home that day – how the heck did they know that!! I feel so sorry for Chris –as the front man and married to Gwyneth he gets so much more attention that the other three band members! I was pleased to get three signatures so I thought positive – I also managed to get some photos of Jonny guy and Will too – though not brilliant they were souvenirs all the same!

At this point all the autograph hunters disappeared leaving just three of us there – my son went to get a drink – and along came two men who were part of the radio 2 but were recording part of the Live at the Abbey programme – not sure if it is radio or tv as they had sound and camera with them!? – and interviewed myself and the other two fans as to what sort of bands music we would like to see on the live at the abbey programme – that was interesting – apparently it will be three bands recorded live and put together for one programme – we were also told that this concert would be filmed as well – but we weren’t sure why and what would happen to it – but that was the first part of the day’s excitement over –

We then waited in the competition winners queue (there was also one for VIP/ guests and one for wristband holders?) until it was time to be handed our tickets at about 5.30

The security guards on duty were given the green light to let us in at about 6.30pm – and they were supposed to let the VIP in first – it was all standing in the studio we had been told with no VIP area, we were to all stand together – but the first VIP wasn’t on the security list so the competition winners were let in first – and guess who was first in the queue – yes yours truly – arriving so early and queuing in the cold had paid off

We went into the very plush interior of the building and then downstairs - but I think they let us in a bit early as there weren’t any security to guide us till we got right to the studio door – (we took our coats with us as we completely missed the cloakroom!!) we were then let in – the studio didn’t seem that large the stage was at the front and a sound booth at the back and a balcony too - the stage did not have any barriers – that meant we could go right to the front and so we did – I was there right in the middle – opposite the stool that Chris sits on at the piano and right next to the mike stand that he used when he played the guitar or just sang – WOW what a place to be – it was amazing to think we were actually there, never mind have the chance of such a good view – you could actually touch the piano on the stage from the floor it was so close. The studio soon filled up with guests etc and we waited eagerly for the concert to begin – not long to go now!! Deep breaths Lyn and you can make it!!

Just before the concert started the photographer came in – to take pics for the BBC website and he also told us that the concert would be reported in the evening standard – the London paper – for Feb 14th – so see if you can get a copy – they may have a web site and send copies out by post – I have yet to look that up! He was only going to be there for 3 songs thank goodness as he pushed me slightly out of the way – he had a pub quiz to go to later that night – I know where I wanted to be though and my patience was soon rewarded.

PART THREE - PLEASE SEE END FOR PART TWO sorry in a muddle with copying from word!!

It was time for the concert to start – Dermot O Leary came on stage and spoke to us then announced that Coldplay would soon be on stage – and so they were – oh boy what a time we were to have – I could not believe how close we were to them all – especially Chris – he sat at his piano – the stool placed so that two legs of the triple were at the back so that when he rocked back and forth he didn’t fall off – he does play with so much enthusiasm! The entire band wore black clothing – Chris’s trainers were white adidas ones (couldn’t see what size they were!!) Val told you the set list – they did in all sing 13 songs, as near to the end of the concert a message came through from the sound room that they wanted coldplay to redo one of two songs but Chris said he wasn’t going to do that – they couldn’t do the same song twice so they played In my Place instead – so it will be interesting to see if all 13 make the broadcast and which one they left out of the two to be redone (I will get back to you as to which two they were my son has the info)

Well the photographer had his work cut out trying to take photos with the lighting!! it was pitch black between numbers and not much lighting while they sang – but the sound was great and I was so enjoying myself – talk about being on planet coldplay I certainly wasn’t on planet earth to be honest so when Chris came up to the mike to sing Yellow he looked at me and said he wanted to sing to me ( or something like that ) so he asked my name – I luckily remembered who I was and answered LYN – so chris then went on to sing Yellow to me and changed the words I think – oh heck – I couldn’t hear everything I said and will have to wait for the broadcast to find out what happened but after Yellow he then kept talking to me while he was sat at the piano – he said to me as explanation it was innocent flirting, that I couldn’t sue him in the courts, that he was married – I was so surprised that he noticed me but my son Chris was with me and he at this point said – hey dude she’s my mother!! – “Well” replied Chris martin – “she’s nice”!!! Or words to that effect - - and now I realise that I have made the evening standard!! And yes that was me they were referring to – talk about famous or what!! You could have knocked me over with a feather to have so much attention – and better things were still to happen later!!

Chris Martin – was his usual happy bunny self – putting so much enthusiasm in his performance and dancing all over the stage – at one point he touched

Jonny on the bottom – then went over to Guy and ducked down to play hide and seek with Jonny the other side of the piano – it was mesmerising to watch his antics on stage – you cant help but be caught up with it all – it was amazing to watch it so close – several times Chris crouched down on the stage right in front of me and I was so tempted to touch him he was THAT close but I didn’t want to cross the boundaries and intrude on his space BUT I could not resist in one song when Chris leant over backwards to the audience and leant back so far I thought he would fall on us – so I reached out with my hand and touched his hair – I could not stop myself – his hair was so soft!

PART FOUR - ( i can count but cant copy from word apparently!! )

Guy Jonny and Will were playing quietly in the background to most of the songs and so it was only Chris who was sweating buckets –bless him and he kept using the towel on the stage – well I had my beady eye on that as a souvenir and guess what!!! When Chris had the problems with Fix YOU and the piano not working for a while – he said “what’s happening – this is abbey rd – we were playing so well too” – he stood up from the piano and in jest said “Oh well I’m going home” and you may have heard the expression throw the towel in – well he did literally STRAIGHT AT ME!! Well I was never so surprised in my life – I couldn’t help but catch it and it went straight in my bag – he wasn’t going to get that back!! As my son pointed out (he is studying biology at Balliol in Oxford!!) I had Chris martins DNA on the towel – now if only I had the technology I would clone him!! That would cause a bit of chaos wouldn’t it the paparazzi wouldn’t know who to follow – might even give the real Chris Martin a bit of deserved peace and quiet at home!! On my way home I looked at the towel – which will never appear on E Bay – and thought I would look at the label to see if it gave any clues – thinking it would say – abbey rd – or this belongs to coldplay or something like that – BUT it said – “100% cotton wash at 40* “ and that was it!! It will never be washed though – even if it does have a slight aroma to it!!!

I really cant remember much more – was there more – I am sure that others will remember what happened better than I – you always notice what happens to others better than the person on the receiving end – I think I will have to listen to the broadcast in April to find out what really was said – depending on editing of course!!

PART FIVE - THE END ???

When the concert finished – Dermot O’Leary came on again – he took my hand and spoke to me – I had seen him at a recording of Des and Mel recently – so I told him all about that!

As the stage was being dismantled – fans were being given set lists – and other souvenirs – I managed to get a plectrum for my son Chris as he plays the guitar – that was brilliant

There was a delay getting out of the studio – I think it was to allow time to let coldplay leave the car park before fans were let out – as all the cars that they arrived in had gone by the time I got out

As I walked across the car park to the studio gates I was interviewed yet again – this time by name – there were two different men talking to the two fans I had met first in the queue and had been interviewed with me earlier on – “ah one man said “ this is the infamous Lyn – the one who cant sue Chris and take him to court!!” oh heck – so I was asked why I supported coldplay etc and about the concert itself – the evening was full of surprises!!

To sum this eventful day up IT WAS AWESOME – MAGICAL- NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN

Thank you all for listening to me – thank you for sharing my day – I hope I brought some of the atmosphere to you that you may have missed – I wish you could have all been there with me.
