what is commercial for you?

Do you think coldplay are comercial now?

Lots of ppl around me say that coldplay were better in parachutes of AROBTTH but with X&Y they became commercial....

i dont understand this, cos in my opinion the music is the same, i mean, the lyrics are great, maybe the tempo change now are more faster but this is not a reason to become commercial dont you think so?

i dont know what to think

anyways....i love coldplay and what other ppl think dont influence much to me but i wanted to know you opionion.

I get that alot too.

People tell me that they suck, and they're over played (which they cant help!) and that they do it for the money, and blah blah blah.

I wonder where people get these ideas.

I'm not sure how Coldplay can even become commercial. Well I guess, If one doesn't start out this way, the only way you can become commercial is if you sell yourself (most pop stars.. Black Eyed Peas is a group that come to mind) to make money or when you lose track of who you were before and change everything you used to be (singing about ludicrous things you never did, acting in a different manner) to make more money and attract more fans.

Coldplay are just popular. They suffer from all popular symptoms.. getting overplayed in some places (sadly not where I live!) lots of exposure in tv, maybe adverts. That's not commercial. They havent changed their foundation, to be called as such. The boys are just very known right now.

Any kind of music as long as it's sold is commercial to me, they sold more with X&Y just because they've been as you said overplayed by radios, because there is a lot of rumors on Chris' private life with Gwyneth, and because they're doing great, which is prolly unexpected for many people

Exactly! ;)

There is a huge difference between simply being POPULAR and actually selling out (like the black eyed peas).

The boys are just extremely popular at the moment, which is great, and as fans we should be proud of that. I know I am! They have come so far, and in such a short space of time.....yet managed not to loose their way, as many other big bands do. I hope things never change, because I really respect them for that.

as you know im fan just since X&Y

do you think they change the personality since parachutes?

Personally I dont think so. I think they have become more confident in their own abilities, and Chris is more confident when performing, but that's all really.

  • Author

yep maybe....i download a lot of videos and i see for example chris is not that shy now.

yeah more confident is the word.

Chris has never been shy imo :)

since the first performances you could see what an entertainer he is

Yeah I agree...I dont think 'shy' as such, just not very confident in himself as a performer. Whereas now he's definatley more confident and looks more at home on stage.

but he laugh shy i dont know how to explain

he is very crazy but has his point of shyness

When you play to a crowd of 30,000, you're commercial. I hate the stigma that's placed on being commercial - I say power to them, they play good music and they're getting filthy rich doing it! Just because they're commercial doesn't mean they don't care deeply about their music or they're a corporate band, but the fact is they are at the point where they've become a product that a big label pushes. This doesn't mean they've sold out - it's all beyond their control. Commercial simply means they have more resources and can make better produced CDs.

so if they are good and they have moeny because they are great theres no chance to stay normal, you have to become comercial?!

of course coldplay are commercial...but i dont think they have sold out really,i mean they do what they want, selling out essentially being doing what other people want you to do like fans etc, they should follow their own path as they are doing fine.....yes coldplay are everywhere, its not their fault, loads of people i know hate them people i know like them...u get a mixture

They're commercial cause people make them commercial
